My wife and I have been loyal customers of Sawatdee for 10+ years at both the St. Paul and Mpls locations. Naturally we were excited when they opened a restaurant in Eden Prairie which is where we live. We have been there a handful of times dining in and have also had a lot of take out. Our dining experiences have been mixed but the food has always been good. However, the last time we visited it was 5:30pm and there was only one other couple eating in an otherwise empty restaurant. The host who seated us nearly trampled me after showing us to our table, handed us menus and walked away. And the waiting began. There were about 8-10 employees within eye and ear shot of us hanging out chatting in booths and at the bar. I would like to reiterate that the restaurant was darn near empty. At no point did anyone greet us, offer us water or ask if we wanted a cocktail. There were at two points someone walking towards us so we were thinking they were coming to our table only to have them make eye contact with us and sit down in a booth to chat with other idle workers . After about 20 mins passed we simply got up and left. Needless to say we wont be returning...at least to the Eden Prairie location. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to post a negative review.

When we were first married, Jan and I lived downtown on the 19th story of a building overlooking Loring Park. On one of our first nights we walked down to Nicollet Ave. to try some local restaurants. The first one we tried was a wonderful restaurant call the Royal Orchid and we immediately fell in love with Thai food. Sawatdee is a great place that helps fill the void left by the closing of Royal Orchid. We have been there many times and always have a wonderful time. I test a Thai restaurant by two dishes, Thai Fried Rice and Red Curry. Both are excellent at Sawatdee. We also have had the Papaya Salad and some other dishes. So give them a try. They commonly have a Groupon you can buy which makes going there a no brainer

Being a thai restaurant, this place needs spice! I asked for a 4 out of 5 for spiciness--what I got was maybe a 1. Initially I thought it was a mistake and I asked for something to spice up my dish a little bit, waitress then brought out a small scooper in a container full of what looked like ground red chilies. I thought, "this is going to be great." Be after basically turning my chicken ginger stir fry the color of pure red, I wasnt getting anything. Now, thats all fine and good--I couldnt complain too much about that, and my meal was fundementally pretty good but very salty and with the price for just my mid-sized meal portion and a water at 14 buck without tip, I just couldnt give it those 4 stars.

Went with a friend for lunch and we shared the fresh spring rolls, Erwan Steak Salad, and Pad Thai. All were excellent. The specialty fresh spring rolls are a favorite of mine, and these were done well. The food was fresh and delicious. If the weather is nice, they have a great patio over looking water. The decor is modern and very nice, clean. The service was excellent too. Advice: The spice level is offered on a range from 1 to 5, and I have a decent tolerance for spice. We ordered both items at a level 3, my friend was thinking 4. He was glad not to have gotten the 4, because 3 is enough to make you stop and re-calibrate your taste buds.

The service here is worst to none. Whomever owns this place needs a reality check. The food is average, the service is horrible, and to top it off I bought a groupon from them recently to use on a takeout order and they said they wouldnt honor it because I wasnt at a table. Seriously? I could have ordered the food... sat there... and then asked them to box it up to go and they wouldnt budge. They threw away $45 worth of food and lost a customer in addition to all the friends I will tell not to visit this place.

Authentic Thai food. Every experience I have had at Sawatdee has been exceptional. As a person with Celiac disease, I always appreciate a restaurant with an extensive gluten free menu. I had the Pad See Yew with beef, and it was phenomenal. They have many vegan and vegetarian options as well. We were quickly seated, the server was friendly, the prices were reasonable, and the house wine was delicious. We will definitely be back! Perfect spot for a date night or family night out!

Ive been to the St. Paul and Minneapolis locations with no issues. This location had several. There was no greeter when we entered and debated whether they were still serving at 1 pm. The floors were sticky. Food was mediocre. Empty tables were covered with dirty dishes the entire time we were there. I had to remind the waitress 3 times to bring our water. It seemed as though the place was being run by unsupervised, lazy teenagers. Definitely wont be returning to this location.

My wife bought us the Groupon for this location and we both loved it. The food was excellent; I had the Rama Thai Delight and my wife had the Yellow curry lunch special. We were both blown away by how delicious the food was. We also had the fresh spring rolls and they were also delicious. The server was very kind and attentive. This is now officially our go-to place for Thai. Were both sorry it took us this long to find Sawatdee!

Drove 1.5 hours to get Thai cuisine and I wasnt disappointed. I dined on their outdoor patio, which had a lovely view. The food was delicious. Hit happy hour and got house Mondavi Chardonnay for $4 and the best chicken satay Ive had for $4. Dined on the tofu phad see ew and took tofu phad thai home - was delicious and fresh and amazing. Will definitely come back. Highly recommend :)

Im so happy I bought that Groupon for here. I brought my girlfriend and we shared dishes. She got the Shrimp Pad Thai ($14) with Level 5 spice and I got the Shrimp Fried Rice ($14). Both were amazing but the fried rice was my favorite. Long story short we loved our meals and not had leftovers to take home for later.

Big mistake, I had half a duck. I thought duck was gonna be roasted. No it was deep fry, not like they stated on menu. Duck was blend and no special sauce to dip it in, except soy sauce and some big cut jalapeno. Dont go there, you money is better serve going to McDonald then this restaurant.

Worst Service , Arrogant behaviour by the servers. Food was all cold and manager gave excuse that they are very busy. Do not bother to go at Sawatdee ,even if the food is offered at 80% off. Food quality was horrible too and This restaurant is not worth taking a chance. Not worth your time.

We eat here regularly and they make very good food. The curries are great. They used to be a bit watery but they have a different chef now and it is always just the right consistency. The chicken cuts are always clean (no fatty pieces) and the spices and flavors are well balanced.
