I lived in Sawyer when this place opened up and every time we have a guest at our house, they have a place to stop in at Greenbush. There is quite a draw to the place and the beer never disappoints. The food menu is a joy as well, many of the meats are smoked or cured in house, and the menu will only get better as time goes on and as Greenbush grows. I wanted to give it a 5-star, however I have heard so many stories of bad service and have experienced less than stellar service as well. This is troubling considering how good the beer is and how much thought is put into making Sawyer a great place. I have been told that tips are pooled, which doesnt give a whole lot of motivation to work for a tip, since you are pooling it all at the end of the night. So all in all, I never know what to expect when I go in and am served. Regarding the quality of the beer, this place is 5-star, no doubt. They make the best beer around although there are many competitors. Each beer they make is a fun creation, and even the lab-beers are something to get excited about. This place is popular because it makes the best beer in this corner of the state (although Im real excited about Transient Artisan Ales who do sour ales, which Greenbush doesnt do). Regarding the food, they are also a 5-star, although there isnt much thought to organic options, which makes me lean more toward a 4-star. Regarding the service, they are probably a 3-star. This is super disappointing for me to write because I love the place so much, but between my negative experiences and the ones that have been explained to me, this is simply not acceptable. I have worked many service jobs before and know it can be frustrating, but it doesnt make it acceptable for a server to be rude or unpleasant toward anyone in my party. Overall, Im very excited we have a place like this in our neighboring town. It is a must visit!

This is actually a nice place to go, but this last trip ruined Greenbush for me forever. Got to the brewery and we wanted to grab some lunch so the hostess told us 40 minutes. Not bad.....we grabbed a beer from the bar and waited. And waited. And waited. At 1 hr 15 minutes later we ask the hostess when we will be seated now that its been double our waiting time and no one has said anything. Anyone else that walks through the door gets a table no problem. We order a few more beers and wait some more. So we ask how much longer its going to be....another 30-40 minutes!!! Are you serious? Thats what you said an hour an a half ago!! They said we were "drinking too much and stumbling around" so we were going to be asked to leave. We literally were standing at the bar having a few beers while we waited for our table. Since this is a brewery I would expect that most people drink in a brewery and since you wont seat us, we cant eat. Im not sure what they expected of us?? The staff was straight up RUDE!! Our group spent ~$150 on beer while waiting and then they told us we were off the wait list and that we needed to leave. We were all going to eat and get so some items from the gift shop. I am so happy that we did not waste our money in this place, but they definately lost out on a few hundreds dollars from our group. Hopefully they hire new wait staff soon. It is unacceptable to comment on the way someone looks when you are on the clock. Your staff made rude comments to my friend because he has NATURALLY red hair. Discrimination at its finest. I have been to this place every year for 3 years and never had an issue. This establishment has 100% lost my business. I will NEVER go back. Unbelievable the way your staff speaks to your customers!!!

Have been there several times since I travel once a month to Detroit along with many other coworkers. I have been there when it was extremely busy and had to wait even just me to be seated at the bar which is fine and got my food quickly and it was fantastic. Although tonight will most likely be the last, I brought my family during a trip after talking about it many times and it was not that busy, we were seated immediately and were there about 1 hour & 45 minutes + which is absolutely ridiculous. Waiter got order and drinks brought an appetizer and never saw him until we went to get him 40 minutes after we finished drinks and app. Never offered anything up and paid way too much for that experience and disappointing food today. Others came in after us and left way before we even got our food. Table next to us was worse they were there earlier and still did not get food when we were leaving, but did get a free round of drinks and brought an appetizer. You need a floor manager paying attention to what is happening and waitstaff who just dont ignore customers stop at the table once in awhile!! 2 hostess at front (not needed) could be helping kitchen or waitstaff when they are struggling, get drinks or whatever or pay attention to which tables have been there for awhile!!!

As the suds were rushing through me Lemmy, from Motorhead, turned upward and blew fire from his mouth into the heavens. As if to say, "thank you god". He then proceeded to give me his entire Magic the gathering card collection. Stating, "I wont be needing these anymore". Soon after Einstein sat next to me and bestowed all of his secrets to playing Connect Four flawlessly. I wanted to post a selfie of Albert and I but my phone was dead. Somehow bartender Logan read my mind and offered the exact micro usb connection I needed. Lifesaver! Needless to say I am undefeated in Connect Four since this encounter. (Hungry Hippos too but thats all me) Soon after this my mind began to wander. Saw two Russian fluffy hatted guys from the Tetris arcade game reenacting the dance scenes from Grease inside mug 513. This prompted me to order my second beer. I can see that I am running out of room to tell you everything. Overall... Best place on earth. Prost!! P.S. The 588-2300- Empire carpet guy loves the Apathy Oatmeal Stout. Says he doesnt...... (totally does).

The beer was amazing and fairly priced. The IPA here is one of the best I have had in many years. I have also had the stout and one ale I cant recall which were also amazing. They were all distinctly unique to the place which is hard to say about plenty of micro-breweries in the mid west. The place can however be crowded for obvious reasons and its better to reserve accommodations ahead of time. I have seen a few people frustrated at the wait stuff for having to wait too long. I have also had the food. My friend got the ribs and I got the turkey ruben. They were both 7/10 at least. I believe Tapistry up north has better Rubens but the beer here is better. I would have given 5 stars but the hash puppies I got tasted stale and since the place is too busy, wait stuff was inattentive at times.
