We visited just after opening on a Sunday morning, place is small and tight but clean. Greeted at the door by a Hostess and ushered to a table to her immediate right, third table from entrance at window. Waitress was very energetic and cheerful, being our second visit we took the time to study the menu before ordering. The spouse ordered a skillet dish with eggs over easy and I selected a breakfast dish with eggs Sunny-side Up, requesting the top not runny and no crispy edges. My spouses dish arrived very nicely done, eggs looked perfect. My dish was a disappointment as the eggs were the exact opposite as requested. I told the waitress I could not eat them as prepared and pointed out the condition, so she took my plate back to the cook. I could hear the exchange between the two about the eggs, then the owner chimed in and brought my plate back to my table and demanded my explanation about what was wrong with this now well traveled plate. I once again pointed out what is verses what I asked for and he began to put the confusion on my failure to be clear and started marching my plate back to the cook, as I was speaking to him. I told him that I would just change my request to over easy and be done, but he began to have a loud exchange with the cook, so I shouted back to them that if it was to much of a challenge that I did not need the meal at all. The Owner came back to my table to validate his efforts to be clear about my issue with the eggs and I expressed that I can cook eggs if they needed some direction. My plate was returned 10 minutes later by the owner, same sides and eggs still not correct, Bottoms over cooked and crispy, top still with clear runny whites. The Owner challenged if this was good and I replied no but marginally better and he walked off. Cold and still not correct my breakfast experience was ruined as was my wifes. who was trying to hold off while my meal was being poorly managed. At the end our waitress removed the 2 coffees from the bill, 20 dollars the balance. I gave a 4 dollar tip and my wife boxed her plate which is still sitting in the fridge 2 days later and will be tossed soon. The point is, dont order eggs sunny side up because it is beyond the skills to create or understand by both staff and management, and if they get it wrong, its your fault and on your tab. We are still very surprised and disappointed. Well its been a year now and I see in the photos of prepared dishes that they appear to have improved on eggs other than scrambled. I hope the attitudes are additionally improved as well.

Sad to not be able to come back here, since it was a staple before it was even the Whistle Stop. I can no longer support this business. My experience this morning was shocking. The owner, who I assumed and later confirmed by an employee, normally stands around watching people work. Working in restaurants for years, this is so annoying to see. This isnt the shocking part. His treatment of his employee, a waitress, for not having the right tee shirt on when she came in was embarrassing all around. I was trying to eat my breakfast and he was yelling at her and berating her in front of the whole restaurant. I will never support a business where a person in a position of power abuses their employees. I felt terrible for her and she even made an excuse for him saying he was "in a bad mood". I dont care what kind of mood anyone is in. There is no reason to treat another human being like that. You should treat your employees with respect because it is off of their backs that you make your living. While you stand around looking and watching your staff work without even helping in the least. You need to check yourself. I will always tell this story when I hear your restaurants name. Dont let anyone push you around and treat you this way. Dont support this abusive establishment. Thanks for the service and the kitchen staff is equally amazing.

Whats not to love about this place? I have worked here now for almost 2 years and have worked for the owners Valter and Elda on and off since 2005 at Double EE. They are truly amazing people to work for. I have never met anyone that takes so much pride in what they do and will stop at nothing to make sure that our customers are 100% satisfied each and every time they dine at our establishment. I have definitely learned a lot from both of them over the years and will continue to learn and grow with them as long as they will let me. Our food is outstanding and Im not just saying that because I work there. If you dont beleive me come check it out for yourself. I promise you will not be disappointed! Everything is fresh and homemade. Including the jam! We serve a lot of Michigan made products and if you are a coffee drinker, you will love the Great Lakes Bailout blend roast! You can check out our Facebook page to see reviews and pictures or like I said before just come on in and check it out for yourself. Ill hopefully be seeing some new faces in the morning

My hillbilly had cold gravy, hot chicken and a luke warm biscuit. We walked into the place right when they opened and it was freezing in there and empty. When this place was Maes it would be packed right when the door was open. Staff was friendly and services was attentive (we were only ones there for 30 minutes) They use those little dean dixie up half and halts rather than real half and half. I left feeling sick the food quality was so poor. My daughters fruit bowl was 50% bad fruit. My wifes veggie dish was a joke. It was like the cheapest food you could buy assembled in the most hasty way possible. You can tell, when it was Maes it used to be someones passion - now someone is trying to make it their ATM. WhistleStop, if you read this you need to step up your game big time. Organic food. Real half and half. Local food. Notice the great reviews herein are from when the place was "Maes" - Roses Fine Food on Jefferson in Detroit, MI and Inn Seasons Sunday Brunch set the standard for high quality, affordable breakfast dining in Detroit.

This place is a joke. Service is terrible, and the food is just ok. Nothing special, or worth the poor treatment. It is very clear that unless you are in the approved club of patrons, the staff could really care less about you. Take your hipster notions elsewhere. I watched them turn away an elderly couple who wanted service because they were nearing their 3pm closing time. Would it have killed you guys to make them lunch, and clean up around them for another 15 minutes? No. I think not. For an establishment that prides itself on local history, and community, you need to do much more than put a few old faygo signs on the walls.

Its way over hyped and over rated. I visited on several occasions hoping that the food would be as good as people say and praise the restaurant for... yet it fails every time and disappoints every time, the food is just..."blah" or "meh".... I get sick, my friends get sick on every visit. The place is over crowded and takes on too much of ambition than to concentrate on what they might do good. They must have good connections in advertising community , magazines and such. i def DO NOT recommend this place. A leos coney island is just as good. Seriously people.... good food from this place?
