My hubby and I went on a date to Woodchips and I was really excited about it because it was new and there are NOT many options for eating in Lapeer. The atmosphere was superb. I loved it. Right down to the mason jar glasses. The service was good. Timely and polite though not overly friendly. I ordered the triple with sausage, pulled pork, and chopped brisket. I got mac and cheese and brussel sprouts as my sides. The sausage was absolutely delicious. Some of the best bbq sausage I have ever had. The brisket and pork were somewhat dry and had several chunks of fat/gristle mixed in with in them which is one of my biggest turnoffs. The brussel sprouts were also delicious and had a balsamic glaze on them which I loved. The mac and cheese was sadly disappointing as it lacked even basic seasoning. There were six sauces on the table. I did not try all of them as I dont prefer sweet sauces but my hubby liked the apple flavored one. The mustard sauce, which is always my preference at a bbq place, had wonderful flavor but was oddly watery, even if shaken up. There was also a spicy sauce but it was all heat and not much flavor. We would probably go again for a date night since our options are few, but it was nowhere near as good as I wanted it to be.

Woodchips is set in Downtown Lapeer and is rapidly expanding. The dinning floor is intimate with around 15-20 tables and a bar that could hold around 10 people. Their menu is full of amazing and unique dishes with various smoked meats. What I claim as my favorite dish seems to change each time I go there. In addition to spectacular food, their bar is full of unique choices for beer and cocktail lovers as well as scotch and bourbon connoisseurs. They offer approximately 8 rotating craft beer taps as well as unique house inspired cocktails such as smoked drinks and a spectacular mint julep. If you are wanting a taste of everything, they offer whiskey/bourbon and beef flights for very reasonable prices. They are expanding into the building adjacent to them due to open in the summer of 2017 which will draw bigger crowds and larger parties. This place has it all, great food, drinks and the service is some of the best in town. Do yourself a favor and go there, you will be planning your next dinner there before you leave!

As a bit of a BBQ snob Im not sure how this place has stayed off our radar so long but were glad we stopped in. Dinner was a Sunday evening and we got seated immediately. Our brussel sprout appetizer was killer and though weve had reuben egg rolls before these were above par. My ribs were perfect and I felt bad even putting a little sauce on them. Its always a bonus to see a place feature their own sauces even if they dont all shine. In our case we loved the Sweet, the Michigan Apple and the Carolina. The kids ordered Eagle sandwiches and the adults split some pulled pork and sausages. Everything was perfect. No time for cocktails that evening but the offerings were intriguing and the Bloody Mary mix was very nice. Despite being a little out of the way for us we wont hesitate to be back. Great job, guys!

The lightning burger is one of their most popular, and for good reason. It was delicious. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly. I also had the appetizer sampler plate which was fantastic, just for the different types of food that I hadnt imagined before. BBQ egg rolls, for example. So. Good. The fries werent as good as the burger, I wish I had them replaced with something else, and I feel like they might have been baked? You know those frozen fries that you can get at the grocery store and bake? Tasted like those. The BBQ bottles could use descriptions on them. I assumed Texas BBQ would be really spicy but instead of was very smoky.

My and the wife had a night to ourselves and decided to give this place a try. She ordered the beef tips and I ordered the tacos, with Brussel sprouts as a appetizer. The beef tips were amazing with a great smoky flavor. The fried Brussel sprouts had a good flavor, however they were a bit overcooked and dried out. The brisket tacos were next, the best way to describe them were bland. They werent bad,but werent great either. I would give this place another chance. Also you must order the candy bacon, It was absolutely amazing, great texture, flavoring. Service was good, just dont sit by the door it was cold. Keep up the good work and see you again soon.

After reading the great reviews on yelp and google I thought I would try this "Real American BBQ". Even gave it a couple chances. For one where are the smokers? Two who thinks a slow roasted dogs ass tastes good? And three are the people leaving reviews absolutely crazy or the owners friends?! There is absolutely not a single thing about "Real American BBQ" about this place. They use liquid smoke, no smokers, and to call that a Texas BBQ sauce is absolutely 100% sacrilege. The worst BBQ that I have ever had. Wouldnt recommend to a homeless person. The reviews are misleading. I spent money for something that I can make a thousand times better.

Good food, poor service. I hesitate to write a review based on service, but after 3 visits and all three having very lack luster service I think the time has come. I want to ensure that everyone knows that their food is good. Good smoke, tender meat, and good sauces. A great side is their Brussels sprouts, really good. However, every time I have gone the service has been less than lack luster. I havent gone at busy times and it still has been an issue. Each time there was quite a wait for food, and you had to really try to flag down your server for refills. This kind of issue really detracts from the quality of the food.

If you havent already, go out and check this place out. Every time I go back it gets better and better. Meat could use more seasoning, it was a bit bland and dry at times. Would love to see some cheddar cheese as an optional topping. Everything else on my plate was delicious and appeared to be home made. Home made sweet potatoes fries, home made cole slaw, everything including the bun looked home made. Love it. Keep it coming out smoked and hot, and Ill keep coming back.

Went here about a month ago with the family and food was terrible, one of the worst barbecue places Ive ever tried. We ordered the brisket (dry)cornbread (soggy)Mac&cheese (Kraft is better)and green beans. We left a review on other sites but now they are gone, I guess the business you rate can take them down if they want, probably why you dont see more critical reviews on them.Hopefully this helps anyone looking for a good place to eat, save your money and try elsewhere.

Revamped menu. Fresh cold microbrew beer. You ve got to try the flashed fried brussel sprouts with honey balsamic vinegar! Delicious! The Michigan Cherry IPA is served ice cold and and is very refreshing! Fast friendly servers make this an ideal place for great bbq and beer. I always look forward to going there.

Unbelievable how many creative dishes all made with various bbq meats. Burgers are made fresh daily. Not just a clever theme either- everything Ive tried in 3 visits has been significantly good. This place would be a smash hit in Royal Oak or downtown Detroit, so its easily the best spot in the Lapeer area.
