I kept giving the place a chance to redeem themselves and I officially am done going there. Ive been there about six times and each time Ive walked in there the staff looks at us like we are an inconvenience. From texting waitresses who ignore us to being stared at for being the first customer in the door like we did something wrong being there...Ive just had enough. Its too bad because the food here is excellent and the quality is there but I cannot handle the way we are treated. The last straw was the day we arrived close to closing time and asked if we could still be seated. They sat us down and brought us water then asked us to leave because the hostess didnt pay attention to what time it was and basically said we had to order our food right at that second or we had to leave. When trying to call the next day to talk to a manager we were told the only time there is ever a manager around is on Tuesdays from 4-9pm. I find this hard to believe that there is not a manager on duty at all times. Both my boyfriend and I have worked in the food industry before and knew that was a giant lie. This restaurant is totally blowing it because of the low morale of the staff. The most basic customer service skills are lacking. I would rather drive to Portage to go to Ziki where the people there are actually happy to see us and welcome us happily no matter what time of day it is.

It seems like everywhere you go these days, places want to claim they serve Japanese food. Most places, thats really not true. People go to Hibachi style grills thinking that is an authentic Japanese experience but it isnt. You can get some good food perhaps, but its not really Japanese food. Kyoto has a hibachi style experience in one area if you still want that. It is indeed fun, and if you have kids, they always absolutely love the show the chefs put on. If you really want true Japanese food, you can get that as well. You can get proper Sushi and Sashimi, Teppanyaki, Maki, Temaki, Soba and Udon noodles, Tempura, etc. The menu gives you so much choice and all good. The prices are a tad high, so if I could I would remove about a half star, but all it all, its not bad. My kids wanted to go have true Sashimi and Sushi and loved the experience. Whether you want to go all out traditional Japanese, or have a milder experience, you should find something here youll like. The wait staff is very attentive and can answer any questions you have, and were able to help guide us in a lot of our questions. The atmosphere is really nice and I was made to feel very welcome. Actually, just thinking about it makes me want to go there. I may have my answer for dinner tonight!

Stopped in for the sushi. I dont really eat sushi much since I landed back in the midwest. BEST SUSHI SINCE THE WEST COAST! Even tops what Ive had in chicago. Without question on par with the best places Ive been and Ive been to several up and down the west coast and beyond. Staff was amazing as well. Prices are great for the quality. Cant hype this place enough! Edit: Ive been coming here regularly for over a year now and they are still a great place for hibachi and the best place for sushi! They have a liquer liscense now so 100% more saki. I work front desk at a hotel and recommend this place to guests and they make a point of letting me know how good it was. If you want sushi you cant go anywhere else, its that good.

The food and service here is very good! I would have never gone in, because it is in a strip mall in a very busy area, but another place we stopped at was packed, so we decided to give it a try. The interior is modern and welcoming - not what I was expecting. You can sit in the dinning area or at the hibachi grill. If you like Asian cuisine - give Kyoto a try. This is especially true if you are a vegetarian - they have a lot of healthy options. We will be going back for sure.

The Kyoto combo teppanyaki is literally flawless. At 31$, it is on the pricey side, but it is well worth the cost. With lobster, scallops and filet mignon all cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sauce, youll love the whole meal from start go finish. The clear soup was good, and not scalding hot like it can be sometimes, and the onion dressing on the salad is to die for. Im hoping to come here many more times in the future. Also, good selection of ice creams.

Absolutely amazing remodel. From what used to be a super stock Asian buffet restaurant, to what is now an awesome sushi/hibachi place. The food is fantastic, service is great, and the atmosphere is really cool. They completely redid the entire inside and it is really something. If youre feeling particularly lazy (like I do when it comes to food), Mr. Delivery even picks up from here and will come straight to your door.

Sushi was pretty mediocre. Got the Spicy tuna and Boston roll. The Boston roll would just fall apart when you tried to pick it up. The spicy tuna was pretty bland and even adding sriracha and soy sauce didnt help much. It needs to have a spicy mayo drizzle or something else to help it out. But the biggest issue was the other roll just falling apart.

We came to Kyoto for the first time for my daughters 19th birthday dinner. This is by far the best Japanese Steakhouse in Kalamazoo/Portage area. Ive been to them all, as far as food, atmosphere, cleanliness of establishment, waitstaff/chef this place has got everyone else beat IMO.

Excellent service and skilled chefs. The show they put on as they cook your meal in front of you is very entertaining and the food that ends up on the plate is just as delicious as it looks. Would recommend if youre looking for a place to go out with friends/ family.

45 minutes to get our drink and dinner ordered. Once the drinks arrived I was never given my second drink order even after asking for it 3 times. I always give a place a second chance but this was so BAD I wont ever return. Horrible service!!!

Went in for sushi, and was pleasantly surprised by the decor and ambiance! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and the service was timely and accurate. The sushi was incredible, and I absolutely recommend the Dragon Roll!

Service was lacking, hibachi was cold-maybe pre grilled then thrown on the grill again when you just order hibachi at the table. Restaurant was freezing inside, had to leave jacket on. Probably wont come back will stick to Maru

My sushi was okay, the wifes hibachi meal was made in the back instead of the table grill (because I got sushi, there wasnt enough people at the table for a chef) and it was greasy and gross. Very disappointed in the food.
