Dear Black Lotus, I want to love your brewery, I really do, especially since we live just a mile & a half away. But after years of giving you "another try" I just cant handle any more so/so beers to go with a disappointing meal. Ive been patronizing the establishment since shortly after it opened and the beer has improved a bit, but most of the brews are watered down and lacking in flavor. There are exceptions, The Gift when available is a good beer. the imperial oatmeal stout was good, but not at the level a true imperial stout, it was more along the lines of where the standard oatmeal stout should be. The inconsistency in the food quality is simply unexplainable. One time the salad and nachos are great and served by a friendly prompt waitress. The next time its wilted lettuce and a plate of nachos 1/3 the size as last time served by someone who could care less about the service provided. The constantly changing menu is perplexing, why not take the best items from the past 2 years and put together a solid menu you can deliver consistently? I hope the areas that are lacking changes sometime, its a great establishment youre building and I think your intentions are good, but Im not sure Im going to be able to give it "another try" anytime soon. When I want a really good beer its just more worth while to drive a few miles east to Chicago & Mound to enjoy some of the best brews that can be found anywhere in the country. Id like to be able to ride up to the Lotus next spring and find something comparable, because I think you can do it.

This place offers good prices on their food and drink.Their brews are pretty good, seeming fresh and somewhat imaginative and seem to change - something I like.Their wait staff seems friendly, but I find disconcerting is their "manager" that struts through every 2-3 minutes even when they are not very busy checking on his staffs quality. Frankly, my expectation is that a brew pub is a place to linger, chat, enjoy a flavorful brew, and enjoy a bite to eat. They do not get the "linger" part. The staff (way too many of them) are rushing you - probably because of the manager. Most establishments of honor in this category, such as Shorts in Bellaire and Bells in Kalamazoo offer GREAT brews and food that you order and pay for at the bar. That gives you an easy "linger" factor - either enjoy a slow experience or rush out - your choice, not theirs. If they have a manager/cop, you never see them.I will continue to stop here occasionally for their very low prices at happy hour because I never want to see a local brewpub with decent beer go under.

I had been here before and I didnt have too much of an opinion of it; but went here after work yesterday and was very impressed with both the food and the drink. When both things taste better than you were expecting, then its time to mention it. The beer I had was called Cherry Poppin Wheat (7.4% abv). Its a perfect beer for a hot summer day. Its refreshing but do not let the cherry part fool you. Its not overwelmingly sweet. As a matter of fact, its pretty subtle, but gives enough flavor as to know what it is. Ill say it again: excellent choice for warm weather. As for the food, I had the Pinnacle sandwich. It is literally a BLT and a grilled cheese sandwich meld together. I was skeptical but intrigued. It was delicious. All the ingredients went so well with one another. At first I was wondering why they would blend the 2 sandwiches, but after eating it Im now wondering why other places havent attempted this. Server was also friendly and prompt. All in all a great day for my taste buds!

I have been coming to Lotus for a long time now. I always loved their old burgers and I really loved the Chicken Curry Wrap. The Buns for the old burgers were amazing and now with the build the burger they just arent the same. I do enjoy the new pizza options from Pizzalica and the sweet potato fries are amazing. I alos like that new beers were added to the menu. The cran=cherry beer is really good. I wish i was a little sweeter but its better than all the light beers they had for a while that all tasted the same. I will always support this place cause its close to home and the staff is awesome and I always have a good time. But I do think the old menu should come back and the beers need to be made better and have more variety.

The poor reviews about this awesome brewery are ignorantly wrong. I know the owners well and they are great! The personal contact that they strive to make with customers is unparalleled. The beer is creative and well rounded. They always have a nice dark beer on tap, something that griffin claw is always lacking. By the way, I was friends with their former brewmaster who was an awesome guy, Dean. Black Lotus is a beacon in downtown Clawson. Clawson is a great little town and Black Lotus is a leader in bringing Clawson into the 21st century. Thank you to everyone at Black Lotus, you guys are the best and Audi is the greatest bartender ever!

Ive been going here since they opened, but the last couple times this year have not been as good as in the past. They used to have a nice burger menu, but that has been replaced with a build your own I find a bit complicated. I couldnt find anything I wanted and had the nachos which were huge and pretty good. But heres the real disappointing part- the beer. I wish it was better. It needs more body! The flavor is fine, but it needs some malt and mouthfeel. Its all like light beer which is fine for the Pils, but I expect more when I get an IPA or Pale Ale. I remember it being better years ago, or maybe Ive gotten more discerning.

My girl and I love Black Lotus! The beers are great! the Sweet potato fries rock! and the people in the brewery are good chaps! Happy hour!? What a Deal for great Beer! I think some of the neg reviews are isolated incidents (cant be PERFECT all the time) and if it take a bit longer than usual to get your food (i never had a issue) then I think thats great! Ill order another beer and meet a few extra new people while I wait! Hell, one time I dropped part of my burger and the waitress brought me a new one even though it was my fault! The wait staff here is awesome! Well... i think I may hit happy hour today! ;-) Peace and love all!!

Spent the last 2 months in the area on business and had a great time coming here many nights of the week. The turkey chili is phenomenal and so is the Lotus burger. The smoked Gouda cheese they put on that burger is creamy and delicious. Great selection and variety of beer both self brewed and craft on draft (about seven of each). At a great price too. If beer isnt your thing then they also have great whiskey and scotch. Bartenders have always been friendly and the food served fast and fresh. Havent got anything I didnt like. In summary, great vibes, great food, great price, great service, I give it my highest recommendation.
