We were at the Michigan State Bowling Tournament in Waterford the 5th and the 6th of March, 2016. We had about 20 people that were with us and we had heard that the Rochester Mills Beer Company had good food. So we called ahead to make a reservation and we were told that they do not take reservations but to call when we are on our way. We finished our bowling at the tournament and we called the Rochester Mills Beer Company to let them know we would be there in a half and hour and that we had about 20 people with us. When we arrived we were told that there was an hour and a half wait as there were no tables available for us. I asked to speak to the manager in hopes of maybe coming up with some sort solution. When the manager came over and I asked him if he could help us out he asked " Did you have a reservation" and I said "No, we were told that you dont take reservations and we were to call ahead when we were on our way". He said yea that is correct we dont take reservations. Now I am really confused. So I asked him if he could possibly find some way of helping us find a place for us. He said the he couldnt. I told him that we called ahead like we were told to and why wasnt there any table getting ready for us. He said that he gave our table away 45 minutes ago since we were not there. Now I really confused since we only called a half an hour ago. I asked him again if there was anything he could do to help us out and he said all he could offer was that we could go over by the pool table by the bar and wait there and have some drinks until some thing came available but that it would still be quite while yet. I told him that was not acceptable and that I was not very happy. It seemed like it did not bother him at all. I dont understand, if you try to make a reservation and they tell you they dont take reservations but to call back when you are your way. You would think that they would be at least working on something to get you in when you arrive. Even if they had to split us up at different tables.

Though the Rochester Mills Beer Company always seems to be packed when I go there, I cannot quite figure out why. Their beer, made in-house, is simply not very impressive. Im a huge fan of craft and microbrew beer and have had nearly every beer made in Michigan and I can say, with confidence, that the beer made by the Mills just doesnt compare to other local beers like Griffinclaw or Arcadia. Ive also had the food at the Rochester Mills Beer Co and its not very impressive either. Not terrible, but nothing Ive had there was remarkable or made me want to tell someone else that they *had* to get it the next time they eat here. The atmosphere seems pretty cool and, though it *seems* rather laid-back, youd better not even stand *near* a table that is reserved or you *will* get admonished *repeatedly* to stand elsewhere by the waitress and another manager. Evidently, standing within a foot or so of a reserved table at this place is a huge no-no, even though there was literally nowhere else to stand. A friend and I were waiting for another to arrive and they gave us such a hard time that we got our bill and left! We werent even sitting at the reserved table! Just standing beside it, but apparently youre not allowed to do that here. Lame. Save yourself a headache and some money and go drink Griffinclaw around the corner at Mr. Bs instead! The waitstaff up there are much more friendly and accomodating than the awful waitstaff and management at the RMBC. Ugh!

Overall the food was excellent, as well as our service from our server. My only concern was the hostesses. We went in to the brewery on Friday evening fully understanding that there would be a wait. I wait for over an hour in the lobby of the building since there was no space in the lobby of the restaurant. There were plenty of other customers waiting in the main lobby as well. My group was simple by passed in the wait because we were not waiting with in the restaurant and they had ran out of buzzers. When a table that had come in after me was seated, I finally went up to the counter and asked what the issue was,why I had not been seated, and where I was in the list. At this point I was two page into the wait last, where there had been people behind me on the list had been seated. Neither one of hostesses had come out to the main lobby to see if their guest were there. See as it was a busy Friday night one would assume that the hostess would come out of the restaurant to see if some of their patrons were waiting since there was not ample room within their establishment.

I got hired there as a dishwasher, was there for 2 hours and left. I couldnt do it, they left food grime on their pans and re used them. I kept giving dirty dishes and pans back to the head dishwasher who was Hispanic and he would look at it and tell me its fine and im like the cook isnt gonna take this. So i take it to the cook who was also hispanic and i said does this look clean to you and he said dont worry about it and took it. I complained to management and instead of them going directly to Marco the head dishwasher they just told me to give the stuff back to him if it was dirty. He wasnt having any of that, he refused to re wash them. Secondly, their dish machine overflows the back shelft where dishes come out and the water level is higher than the dishes sit on top of the racks so they come into contact with the water that has food pieces floating around in it and soap. Nothing coming out of that dishwashing section was clean and i didnt want to be a part of that. The worst part was that management didnt care. Ill never eat there again.

I had a great dinner here with friends. The décor was interesting and rather lovely. The atmosphere was fun, although a little noisy. It was a great place to hang out and talk. I didnt even know about this place until that night, so we plan to return with more friends and check out more of the menu. Everyone in our party said their dinner was great and we had a hard time choosing. Good wait service. The prices were pretty steep, but the portions were somewhat reasonable, not tiny, but not huge. Parking was very crowded and although I have a handicap plate, we ended up in the far rear corner of the lot. So that was an uphill climb with a walker, not exactly an auspicious start to the evening. At least, we didnt end up a block down at the public lot, which is where we thought wed have to go after cruising around for 10 minutes. Next time we come, well choose a less popular time. But we will be back eventually.
