The Stand has mastered a business model which fits perfectly with Birmingham: the appearance, menu and treatment of guests conveys "we are part of the elite class, and by dining with us you are part of the elite class too". And the patrons reflected this! Unfortunately it also has the feeling of a hotel restaurant. This is exemplified by the long entry hallway, labeled wine lockers (which arent even climate controlled!), and very nice modern interior. The staff is very well trained and its clear they have a mandate to treat guests very well. The food is good: it has a diverse menu (Vegan, Rabbit, and Sturgeon on the same menu!), the presentations are great, and everything tasted good. The one thing holding it back from a "GREAT" rating is the menu pricing. Everything is 30-50% higher than it should be. I believe this is the result of the location; certainly they have the most outrageous rent of any restaurant in Birmingham. And Im sure that is reflected in the prices. Ill try to explain it like this: For higher prices you should get more unique ingredients (which should cost more to source...like truffles), or menu items which are the product of more creative chefs (who should therefore be paid higher). But in my experience the additional cost did not align with either more unique ingredients or more unique menu creations. The brussel sprouts were a perfect example: boiled and tossed with a maple smoke sauce. Not fried or crispy...wilted. And only enough for one person as a side, IMO. The cost was $9. The Root (White Lake), Cork (Ferndale), and the Greenhouse Tavern (Cleveland) are providing better value, and doing so at lower prices. So, in spite of the total bill being only slightly lower at these places, if you use the (benefit/cost=value) equation, they are a much better value. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to someone, but it didnt grab me enough to make a return trip in the near term.

The Rotary Club of Troy, Michigan had an "outstanding" time this past week at our Networking event that was hosted by Mr. John Kelly at The Stand in Birmingham, Michigan. The food presentation as wonderfully done and service from the staff was over and above... "The Stand" has that "WOW" Factor that we all want to receive when we are dining out. Thank to John Kelly for hosting us and being there throughout the evening, making sure we received the "best" care... Looking forward to coming back there very soon! Went during the Birmingham Restaurant Week event. I ordered the chop chop salad, burger and carrot cake for dessert. Everything was wonderful, including our server. The salad was nearly large enough for a main entree and was refreshingly light (I think an Asian dressing), I had to cut the burger in half (and ended up taking half home) and it was delicious as well. My friends meals looked equally appetizing, and I will definitely return to try out something different!

The fried chicken is buttery with a hint of lemon and spice - yum! The prosciutto flatbread is crispy, with local arugula and cheese. Sandwiches for lunch are healthy portions of delicious lunch meat like turkey and pastrami. They have a small alcove where you can sit near the bar - huge open windows and an open kitchen as well. The bartenders are super fast and fun to talk to!

The Stand is a fantastic culinary experience. It’s a 180 from the restaurant that was formally in this location, in a good way. Nearly any evidence of tacky Zazzio restaurant was replaced with the Stands more refined look and feel. Me and my fiancé had a beautiful romantic dinner. The food and service were absolutely fantastic! Bravo!

I went for the first time for a private event. The wait staff were professional and very pleasant and the food was delicious. I wasnt a fun of the beet cured salmon but I dont like beets. The beef appetizer with grits was amazing and the halibut dinner entree was delightful. And the Brussels sprouts so the best!!! Definitely will go back!

Food looked great but was over salted, several members had to send back fish for not being cooked . Oysters were awful couldnt even finish. Service was painfully slow. 20-30 minutes between order and getting drinks. Building looks great though

Stopped in for lunch, my co-workers loved their burgers. I took a risk with the rabbit stew and was super happy I did! Really tender and great flavor!

Not for me, hipsters will love the cuisine and wine menu. Do not bring kids, not exactly a child friendly menu.
