New in Tallahassee from NY/NJ, my husband and I had lost hope of finding a restaurant here with great ambience and great food. We had been recommended a few places that somehow left us disappointed. Yesterday was our first wedding anniversary and we wanted to venture to some french cuisine but not sure what to expect so we read reviews about this restaurant and also Chez pierre but after looking at the limited menu for Chez Pierre which consisted of very american food with french names (ham and cheese sandwich?) we decided to try out A La Provence, and for the first time since arriving in Tallahassee, we have found a place that met all of our expectations. We had planned at first to sit outside but upon arriving, we realized that the people sitted outside were mainly cigar smokers which I think its only fair for them to enjoy whatever makes them happy. We were welcomed by a very nice and warmed young lady who sat us at a nice corner table giving us some privacy. Minutes after, a gentleman who we assume was the owner offered us two flutes of champagne to celebrate our anniversary which we thought was a beautiful gesture. The waiter was friendly and attentive without being too clingy or too talkative. The place is elegantly decorated, warm, clean and I felt as if i was back in the city in one of the wonderful restaurants only NYC can offer. The pate was delicious and our main entrees were divine. The only thing I was just a bit down about was the dessert, which I thought I had ordered creme brulee but i got a flan like dessert that wasnt quite sweet. But my husband had the chocolate mousse and he loved it. I was so happy we decided to give A La Provence a shot. At our exit, again the gentleman (owner?) said goodbye to us and we went home with full stomachs and happy hearts. I would highly recommend it!

For the past two years weve eaten at A La Provence about every other month. Lucky us! Having enjoyed excellent cuisine while living in San Francisco, we have high expectations for gourmet food. So high that we belonged for 15 years to the exclusive dining club downtown. But weve happily cut the cord from the Club, because A La Provence is superior in food and service. While the winelist is somewhat limited, its offerings are superior. Only the less complex wines are missing but who wants those anyway?! We take every opportunity to celebrate lifes milestones at this restaurant which also has unmatched elegance with its white linens and classical music. Were glad A La is in Tallahassee, its a peak experience and weve never been disappointed in an evening there. Our favorites include the melt-in-your mouth SweetGrass Dairy cheese plate, any of the truly original salads and the mouthwatering rainbow trout. Yum!! Even our teenagers can appreciate the difference in the freshest dishes creatively prepped! No bad desserts, either... If we were thinner, wed go more often!

I was very excited to try A La Provence based on its stellar reviews, but I have to say that I came away very disappointed. The meal began well enough. The escargot (it was my first experience) was flavorful enough, but things went downhill from their. My wifes entree, the soft-shelled crab, was good, but was not better than might be expected from any (far less expensive) seafood restaurant in the area. My own entree, the crispy duck schnitzel, was an utter disappointment. The duck was soggy rather than crisp, and both it and the sauce it was served with lacked any flavor. At times I have encountered foods whose flavors I dislike - Im willing to chalk such an experience up to a difference in taste. Food which simply lacks flavor, however, is inexcusable. I had high expectations for this restaurant, but sadly I will be unlikely to visit again. With restaurants like Cypress and Liams around, theres really no reason to waste your money on the bland food at A La Provence.

Ive been going to this location since it was the Mustard Tree. As A La Provence, its totally amazing. The entrees are beautifully prepared and are of the highest quality, the bread is house made, and the cheese board is amazingly created and uses local cheese and interesting pairings. Its a quiet place that is great for intimate dinners, big parties, or even sharing appetizers and a good wine at the bar. The staff is polite and proper but friendly and laid-back at the same time, which is hard to pull off. When weve gone, weve had knowledgeable servers and bartenders who knew which wine would pair best with our food selection. Ive never been anything but satisfied with A La Provence. Good atmosphere, great food, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber.

Eaten here once and was not impressed with the food or the service. Our waiter was not attentive, didnt know the menu and just plain horrible. The food was not good. I ordered a steak and it was tasteless. I am not sure how you can mess up a nice steak especially when youre a chef but they managed. This made me not want to go back but I purchased two groupons. It recently expired and they will no longer take it, which I find appalling. I do not think this is anyway to treat a customer especially one who did not have a satisfying experience. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Save your money or spend it at Avenue for the best food in Tallahassee.

We always prefer to visit local restaurants and this is one of our favorites in Tallahassee. First, the owner Bill is wonderful, along with Charlie at the bar and the rest of the staff. However, my big treat is the food. He always gets the freshest, seasonal seafood that is prepared in way that the sauces dont overpower the fish. I love their chopped salad and soups too. Saw a huge steak going to a customer sitting next to us and it looked delicious. Kudos to Bill and A La Provence!!!!

A La Provence is one of the few, if not the only, TRUE fine dining restaurants in Tallahassee. The staff provides exceptional service, the food is wonderful, and the servers always "over-deliver". If you are looking for a very nice LOCAL restaurant in the area, with a great wait staff (especially Charlie), a great menu that you arent going to find anywhere else, and very reasonable prices, A La Provence is the place for you.

Love this restaurant! I require gluten free, vegetarian and the chef and waiter always meet my special dietary needs in a tasty way that NO restaurant has ever done before. Excellent quality and well-seasoned and prepared food. Excellent service ALWAYS from Brian, our favorite waiter. My husband has ordered steak and lamb dishes and always raves about them -- calls this an "outstanding" dining option.

As a human being from Earth, I require sustenance to survive and am highly adept at recognizing foods. A La Provence serves food and beverages that will sustain you. I fully assimilated the calories provided by A La Provence into my metabolic life processes. Again, I am an expert at recognizing foods, having required food for sustenance my entire Earth life.
