One star only because the food is good. Customer service is pretty inconsiderate and rude. My friends and I were throwing a surprise birthday party, and after Sy Thai was full we headed over to Sushi Café. After we were settled down, everyone but two people ordered food out of a group of eight. One person was deathly allergic to everything on the menu and the other was leaving in half an hour anyway. Keep in mind that we are here to have a good time and celebrate our dear friends birthday. After everyone ordered their food, there was no backing out and they told us that either everyone had to order or they kick out the people who did not order. As we had valid excuses why we werent ordering and we are taking OUR money as a group to give it to this restaurant so we have an easy night celebrating without hardship and annoyance, they were willing to split up our group. As we could have taken our money anywhere else I felt as though this was an act of greed. I understand that this is a small establishment, however there were other seats available and no other people were piling in. You can spare two people. If the service was a ton better I would have given it five stars.

The Birmingham Sushi Cafe looks great once the moment you walk in. The menu has a wide offering of choices and the prices are on par with other restaurants. Thats about the only positive things I can say up about the Birmingham Sushi Cafe. The service was mediocre at best. Not that anyone was rude, just they didnt seem to understand how serve a customer. Clueless would be an accurate assessment. The food was good but not great. The portions were substandard. In my experience when you order a roll its 8 pieces. Here it was six small pieces. The nigiri was small compared to other establishment. The quality was good and the fish was fresh but there are other choices in town for better sushi. Birmingham just cant seem to get a quality sushi restaurant and I end up driving to Troy or Royal Oak.

My mother and I went to the Sushi Cafe for dinner tonight. We told the waiter we needed a moment to choose what we wanted, we had to wait 20 minutes to come back and talk to us and he only did it because my mother asked him to. We ordered a smoked salmon skin salad and 30 minutes later, just minutes before our entrees came out, he told us that they had no smoked salmon. My mother ordered shrimp tempura and only got one piece of shrimp and the rest was veggies. My mother asked for fresh hot tea and all he brought out to her was a pitcher of hot water, as if that was fresh hot tea. The food wasnt horrible, it was actually lovely, the service was lousy though. People came in after us and left before us. We were very upset.

This was quite possibly the worst sushi experience Ive ever had. The roll I got tasted like it was made the day before and put in the refrigerator over night. There was no flavor to creativity to this whatsoever. I immediately got a stomach ache and my stomach was upset for the rest of the day (no joke). The waitress wasnt present at all during our lunch and my water was empty basically the entire time. I absolutely love sushi and really appreciate a good, flavorful meal. This was not even close to being up to par and I will not be returning. Im shocked to receive this kind of flavorless food and terrible service in Birmingham.

Not very authentic sushi, but still delicious. The rice is a bit thin and dry, and the roll selection was geared more towards california-style instead of authentic japanese. Birmingham tends to be a more expensive city, yet this sushi was moderately priced. Pro tip: ask for an arnold palmer (half lemonade half iced tea). Their tea tastes really good this way. Our service was fantastic, though we did have to have our order confirmed 3 times.

Horrible service! I went there during lunch time on a Tuesday. They had 1 guy, doing the cash register, serving 4 tables, and running food. I had to get my own napkins and ask the chef for more water. I got 3 sushi rolls, nothing crazy just one specialty roll and my bill was $34. Then about an hour later I was sick to my stomach. For being in Birmingham this place is not up to par. DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!

1 star only because I like the food here. The staff is consistently rude and neglectful. They always automatically add the tip even when theres just 2 people. I once sat outside in the summer and waited almost 45 for the waitress to come take our orders and there was no one else in the restaurant. There are for sure places that are just as good with way better service

Rolls: 2/5 Speed: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Rolls were good, nothing special. The spicy tuna roll was excellent, but the salmon lovers roll was not so much. Not worth the price tag. The salmon was a touch rubbery and there was barely any wasabi. Spicy mayo is runny as well. The nori paper was gummy and hard to chew, which is extremely odd.

Im a beginner when it comes to sushi, but I will say it was quite delicious. I had a cucumber roll, something super simple, yet still rolled perfectly. I had Chicken Udon noodles, delicious. Customer service was top notch!

Tasty tea served at a great temperature and a large selection of food. Wait staff was a little short with us, and they took away my plate without asking before I was done!
