Mezcal Tequila Cantina – Worcester MA – 2/12/2016 Let’s start with a convenient location, easy to get to, right off the highway and valet parking… Add in the convenience of online reservations and you’re off to a good start… The restaurant is rather large with a chain restaurant feel. Particularly in the way it’s laid out and the service they provide. Normally in most Mexican restaurants you get complimentary chips and salsa, not here. Here you have to order it and although you have several choices on their guacamole, I wasn’t really impressed...The salsa was OK… Just OK… For the main course I ordered the ribs with a side of plantains. The ribs were good, the sauce was tangy, but it felt almost as though it was left cooking too long. I was looking forward to soft juicy and succulent plantains fried just so… That wasn’t what I got. The problem is in order to avoid getting fruit flies, they refrigerate the plantains. This of course prevents them from ripening to the point where they’re ready to be fried. My server was good and the manager was awesome. I would probably go to any restaurant she managed. Unfortunately though for me, the food has to be good to great and the service has to match. If anyone of those two items is missing or lacking then I really dont have a reason to go back. I would say all in all it was OK and you probably would enjoy it. I’m used to a bit more upscale so maybe it was me.

I had been going to Mezcals on Shrewsbury St for about 3 years.....so when they moved to a new location I was excited and hopeful it would be the same excellent experience.....only with a better location and a more comfortable environment.....it didnt happen at all......they have 200-300 seats in a big open atmosphere....but the food and the experience is very poor.....The chips are cold ....they charge $ 3 for salsa to eat on terrible chips. The pitcher of margaritas we ordered were so sweet we sent them back....you cannot taste the tequila......ugh. We sent them back We ordered the duck Quesadilla which I had been ordering every time I went to Mezcal for 3 years and never had anything but an unbelievable meal..... NOW it tastes like barbequed chopped up meat...no way to tell if it is pork, beef or whatever...but nothing resembling duck....The stuffed Poblano peppers was so greasy & had so much cheese you could not taste the pepper. The tacos that were ordered were just average. In the old Shrewsbury location.....everything was carefully prepared.....NOT NOW. Unfortunately BIGGER IS NOT BETTER........ the owners have taken their off of the quality to opt for more quantity.....

The food was good, but nothing special. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of spices/flavor in my pollo adobo burrito, and the mole sauce was just a little bit in the center, rather than enough to give flavor to the whole burrito. However, it was cooked well and certainly stuffed with chicken. The guacamole was good, but it and the salsa lacked any sense of spice or chili as well. I was disappointed in the service as once we got our margaritas and guacamole, I think we were a bit forgotten as after 20 minutes we had to grab someone to take our dinner order. However, once things settled, they were efficient in checking if we needed anything further. I was satisfied with my meal and overall, and I think it is good given the lack of nearby options in Worcester.

Without a doubt the worst Mexican meal of my life. Tarting up guacamole with fruit and nuts will never hide the fact that it is bland and flavorless. Chips were stale. Ordered fish tacos...what a mistake! The fish was overcooked to the point of being fossilized and completely unrecognizable. Any slaw that was supposed to accompany it was missing completely. Covered in warm, sweaty cheese. Completely devoid of flavor and frankly, inedible. On top of that my tequila lemonade had no balance and tasted more like rocket fuel and less lemony. Waitress and host were cheerful and helpful, however. This place is surviving solely on college kids getting loaded on tequila. Obviously theyre not there for the food. Try Cancun in North Grafton instead.

Went on a Tues night for my birthday. Didnt expect to see such a huge crowd. Was told that the wait was 30-45 min although there were no people waiting ahead of us. While we waited at the bar, the hostess sat down at least 3 other parties that came in after us. Maybe they had reservations? Who knows. By the time we were given a table - 1+ hr later - I was full on the guacamole and a pitcher of margarita. I would not recommend going there for dinner. The tacos we ordered for dinner were too salty and not very impressive. The bar is also very crowded. The only reason I am not giving it 1 star is because the margarita was really good.

Its very hard for a restaurant to earn a 1 star review from me. Plus: The food was acceptable. The presentation of the food was Excellent. Minus: Service was dog slow. We saw the waiter about once every 20 minutes. The venue was LOUD (and acoustics). My db meter set it around 76 db+. I had to yell to speak to my wife sitting right beside me. The kitchen was slow. An order of nachos took 25 minutes. The drinks (bar) were slow. A glass of iced tea took 15 minutes. Tips: Bring earplugs Make reservations I would only come here if there was no where else available.

I echo the sentiment of the past few reviewers of the Leominster location. My wife and I went there on the recommendation of a friend and all I can say is: I hope the Worcester location is better. We had some chips and guacamole to start the guacamole was great but the chips were stale and cold; we asked for some fresh chips but the next batch was no different. The tacos we had were tasteless; my wife asked for a side of beans and got a bowl of black beans that had just been poured out of a can. At least my margarita was good. Scratch this place off the list…

Disclaimer: as usual I was not paid or endorsed for this review In any way and I dont know anyone who owns this restaurant or works there. I had the queso with ground beef and it was good. I was so full after that I didnt have room for the mahi taco that I wanted to try. A bit pricey but great atmosphere. Debra was my server and she was very attentive and kind. Nothing wrong with my meal, but it just wasnt the best Mexican food Ive had. Id return to try the tacos, but Im not in a rush.

Obviously its an American take on Mexican cuisine but that does not take from the fact that the food is delicious! The portions are also great especially for the price! Mezcal is definitely a great place to hangout whether inside with its bright colors and beautiful murals or outside where you get to see all of the crazies walking around Worcester! I go there at least once a month! Make sure you get a reservation for Fridays and Saturdays because after 7 PM that place is poppin!

A dining establishment location at the base of the Major Taylor parking garage and directly across from the DCU center, this is a good place to get pre-show gnosh or go for lunch. Their guacamole is fantastic and their menu fair is good. The service can vary from moderate to somewhat slow getting orders from the kitchen. While there are franchised eateries within walking distance this is the best choice for the area and budget friendly.
