My daughters were here visiting for a week, we made a reservation on Thursday for 6 pm on Saturday evening to celebrate my daughters birthday and to spend time with family and a special friend. We were a party of 5 and arrived on time and were promptly seated in the 2nd floor dining room. It was an important evening for myself and my family filled with laughs and good food. We had a long wait between dinner and desert. When the our waiter finally came with our deserts we asked for another round of drinks. This is where one of the rudest moments in all of my years of dining at Alchemy,- some 20 now took place. Keep in mind the pace of the dinner was not of our making it was lengthy but enjoyable. The host,- Jay came to our table while we were enjoying our desert and said that they would not be able to serve another round of drinks as they had reservations still coming and that we would have to leave to accommodate arriving reservations. This certainly was not due to the fact we had one to many rounds as this was to be only our 2nd round of the evening. We being a polite family acknowledged his request. We then sat there for another 20 minutes before receiving our bill. I have spent many evenings at Alchemy over the past 20 years including their New Years eve event. We are respectful, nice people who tip well. I am the owner of a real estate company who has booked thousand of visitors into rentals in Edgartown and I have always recommended Alchemy. The very rude and inappropriate ending to what had been a lovely evening left us feeling rather empty. I will withdraw recommending Alchemy to my clients and will not be frequenting in the off season and winter until this awful ending is a distant memory. Sad that a business places so much value in pushing people through that they forget the reason those of us who live here frequent their establishment and return time and time again. This to shall become a distant memory, it certainly warranted a review.

The food was excellent and the service, while very good, fell slightly short on a couple occasions. I hate to nit pick, but to get a five star in my book, the locale should be firing on all cylinders. The main two points of contention? We had to ask for bread twice and we were overcharged on our bill (we were charged twice for a glass of wine). Now, the overcharge could have been avoided, but had we not checked the bill, the server would have charged us for it anyway. When we brought it to his attention, he said that he was aware of the error (I guess he "forgot" to mention it). Other than the above, the drinks and food were very good, great in fact. The service was acceptable, but not overly impressive. I would recommend Alchemy if youre visiting Edgartown - its a great value in a wonderful town thats screams "Americana". Id also like to note that they have a $25 per person penalty (not sure if its enforced) if you do not show up for your reservation. I only know of one other establishment that does this (its in LA and you pre-pay for your visit). Seems this is a bit over the top - another reason they get 4 instead of 5 stars.

The worst cuisine ever; Overrated is too kind a description for the below standard fare they offer. They can afford to do so because the imposing setup and pretentious decor, as well as the seious uniforms and airs the waiters carry around. The appetizer, asparagus salad with Jonahs crab was close to inedible due to the super spicy dressing. it had very little asparagus and crab, but mostly mesclun leaves. The linguini with clams were unabashedly made from clams in the can. they were chopped up snd tasteless. the sword fish entree was a good piece of fish cooked on the grill, thats it , no marinade no sauce. The bean puree was just that, no herbs or flavors added. In short , very dissappointing.

Went here to celebrate our engagement. They not only did not follow our request for a decent table, but was placed right next to the stair case in the busiest part of the restaurant. The service was also poor the night that we went - our waitress was not attentive, leading us to eat quick and go elsewhere for desert and drinks. As for food - the Bolognese was the most bland dish I have ever tasted (and I get this almost anywhere I go). Overall, we enjoyed our night but in no part due to the restaurant. Was very disappointed as everything else we did on the Vineyard that day was perfect.

sitting upstairs, having dinner in the back bar is a nice change from the dining room - though both are nicely decorated. the short rib appetizer is enough for dinner and absolutely divine. the clams casino pasta is tasty - best to mix the casino in with the pasta.the calamari though nicely done in corn meal was a bit tough. the service however, was excellent and attentive. price, as is true at most mv restaurants is very high.

One of the best meals Ive had in a while. Everything from appetizer, salad, entree and dessert was delicious with flavors that combined well and unexpectedly. Staff was attentive and not intrusive. Beautiful old building was just icing. We had: grilled octopus, asparagus crab salad, oxtail ragout, cod, and brownie dessert.

We have eaten her at least 20 times. The food never fails to satisfy. Sometimes the menu choices can be a bit limited. The staff has always been great and very friendly. Check the menu if you see something you like go for it.

Very nice. Great staff. Food came cold. Whisked away to return cold again. Staff bent over backwards to remedy. Dinner comped, free desserts for table. They know how to treat their guests.

The pork belly app special may be the single greatest dish Ive ever had. The oysters on half with jalapeño mignonette was phenomenal. Overall great service and experience.

Very good food but the noise levels are the worst Ive ever seen in any upscale restaurant. Apparently, the management is way too indulgent with drunk patrons.
