The portions here are a bit small, especially if you are ordering a la carte, but are quite delicious. This past time, however, service was a bit lacking. It took 15-20 minutes (and about three or four asks) for the waiter to bring us the right number of sake cups, and we didnt receive the correct number of entrees. Gyu-kaku is a good place for groups to have an interactive sit-down dinner and drinks. Therell be a lot going on at your table and the tables around you, so if youre looking for a lively experience, this restaurant would fit the bill.

I really like this place. It is a fun dining experience. I have tried this restaurant in Chicago and Cambridge, MA. Both restaurants have great service, quality food with good marinades. The mushroom rice is just outstanding. You do cook the food yourself on a grill in the table but the flavors are there in the marinaded already. They have a great selection of sake and good bar in Chicago, which we have had appetizers and a drink at on a couple of occasions, instead of going for a full dinner.

Excellent food, excellent service, great night out for a group of friends looking for something a little different! I was lucky to come by when they were doing an All You Can Eat special, and got a great deal on some top notch cuts of beef and pork. They even had horumon (intestine) for the adventurous eater! Ice cold Sapporo draft in a freezing, frosted mug. Couldnt recommend this place more!

Really great, cute little spot with a big menu. I came for sushi (the Isa special roll is bomb) but we got a teriyaki rice bowl too. The chicken was lightly marinated and a little crispy, which was a really refreshing change of pace from most places that drown their chicken in teriyaki sauce. Overall a little expensive. but really good stuff. I would definitely recommend.

The food here is quite good - everything from the salad to the steak is well-seasoned and delicious. Some drawbacks though: due to the barbecue setting, service can often be slow. This is not a place to go to if you are in a rush. Also, prices can quickly get out of control, even with the barbecue sets. I recommend going during lunch/happy hour.

The meats were well marinated, the servers were relatively attentive, and the place was clean. A star was knocked off because of the slow initial service; it took forever to have somebody come and take our order. Also, remember to flag a server down periodically to change your grill. Otherwise, meats will stick to the charred grill.

My wife and I, along my sister, went here on a Saturday night for dinner. Our server was wonderful and made great recommendations for us on what to order. The meat was tender and flavorful and the mushroom fried rice was delicious. Definitely recommend this place but make sure you make a reservation because it was really busy.

Awful service. Had to wait 15 minutes for WATER. Fire alarm went off and we had to wait 3 hours for our meal. The gas was turned off so we couldnt even grill our food. They took our food to the kitchen to cook but the food was cooked from a pan and the chicken was raw. Will probably never go back to this location.

Overall, Im not sure how I feel about this place --- the food was priced just ok, and we had a coupon, and overall it was good, but Im not sure they had anything that I felt I couldnt do at home with our electric indoor grill. Its not particularly quick, either, with our waiter not really on top of things.

Amazingly good quality meats at a decent price. Fridays are all day happy hour, there are great deals to be had then. I went for my anniversary dinner, and we had a great time. The dining setting is intimate, and the wait staff is attentive and friendly. Perfect dinner!

great spot for Japanese bbq (probably the only spot besides Gyu-Kaku Brookline) good service and happy hour price is real nice! shout out to Em and Yaya, theyre the best servers! it does get crowded over the weekends so make sure you make reservations or show up early.

Came here for lunch. BBQ is apparently good but bibimbap is strangely like a risotto / pasta -- its kind of creamy with a pesto-like sauce. Overall a great place, but I have my reservations because the bibimbap is a standard dish that was very oddly prepared.

Fantastic food and service! It was very rewarding to cook our own meats. The food was incredibly tasty, make sure to get crunchy rice and Toro beef! Our waiter was very friendly, very helpful, and was there the instant we needed him. Highly recommended!

Friends and I had a wonderful evening Japanese BBQ. We were there for the special end-of-year all you can eat buffet. The service was excellent - our waitress (Yaya) did a great job of keeping us well-stocked with food to grill. Highly recommend!

First time here - will certainly come back again. DELICIOUS food and great wait staff! Went with the $45 buffet with a couple of other people and the beef was our favorite. As for appetizers, the spicy tuna tacos were amazing. Highly recommended.

Delicious and fairly affordable if you dont purchase lots of big things. Nice atmosphere. A little away from the hustle and bustle of Harvard Square proper, but still very convenient. The bibimbap was really good, as was the tuna volcano.

Great place for Japanese BBQ (less well known than Korean BBQ). The concept is similar: Small grill in the center of the table and marinated meats are brought to you to cook. The flavors are excellent and service was good.

Excellent service and grill meat. Non grill stuff are just okay. The atmosphere is so Japanese and cute, but they dont really have pipes for getting rid of the smell, so the smell leaves everywhere on you.

Parking can be a nightmare and the closest garage charges like 20 for 2 hours. The service was nice and attentive. While the price is pretty good some of the quality of dishes were up and down.

There is great food that is a good price. A great place to go with a group or on a date. I highly recommend it, just be ready to try new things and find how you like to eat your food.

I was here during their opening promotion days. The prices were very reasonable and the food was delicious. Also Sapporo pitchers were only $5 so cant beat those prices for BBQ with beer.

I bought a Groupon you spend $22 and get a $40 gift card. Ive been to one of the locations in Los Angeles and they had the same menu. Great date night spot. A little on the pricy side.

Love this place. You prepare your own food from ingredients brought by a waiter (think Cramer). Food is delicious, experience is pleasant, prices are reasonable and service is friendly.

Really good BBQ in the middle of Harvard Sq. Decent service. Was a bit late being seated (even though we had a reservation) but was a very enjoyable meal nonetheless.

Japanese DIY BBQ is delicious! Also highly recommend their green tea ice cream, which is significantly less sweet than other green tea ice creams Ive eaten elsewhere
