Busy, romantic tapas house with gorgeous décor, skilled service, and delicious food. Salad: Lettuce, tomatoes, marinated onions, and olives topped with a sharp vinaigrette. I was ready to be underwhelmed (my friend chose it) but it was a great portion and with a bracing flavor. Probably a great paring with some richer tapas. Mussels: Ive never seen mussels with as much meat as these! Aside from that, I dont have much to say...they were briny and came in a very spicy tomato based sauce. Meatballs: out of this world. We dipped our bread in the sauce (and barked at the waiter when he assumed we were finished because the meatballs were gone). Patatas bravas: the best Ive had. They were really crispy and the sauce was sour (its a cream sauce) and it comes with a spicy tomato sauce underneath. Caipirinha: 4 muddled limes were involved Im a sour fiend, so this drink rocked my socks. It tasted like, lime, rum, and sugar...sour and sweet and not watered down. Small bill mix up at the end (they gave us someone elses) but was corrected before we left.

This is my favorite tapas restaurant in Boston. Barcelona is a very popular restaurant, with waits that can go over 2 hours on busy nights. We were able to get a seat right away with a 6:30 reservation time, luckily. Highlights of our meal: Kale salad - a little salty from the anchovy vinaigrette. Patatas bravas - The presentation is killer. This is always my go-to when I get tapas. Jamon and Chicken Croquettes - The perfect drunk food. So you know how good this is. Grilled lamb chops - These are amazing. The arugula salad and the perfectly grilled lamb go so well together. We wanted more. Mushrooms and herbed goat cheese - Pretty damn salty, but with the complimentary bread they tasted really good. Warm Apple-Rhubarb Crisp - So good. Crispy, soft, cold, and hot all in your mouth at once. The bussers were the highlight of our night. One guy was super funny and kept asking us how we liked our dishes and said how much he loved the croquettes. He was very personable and made our dinner really fun.

Good selection of tapas and all the ingredients seemed fresh. Nice wine and cocktail variety. Spicy things werent really that spicy and the lamp we got was a little over cooked (for medium rare). It seemed that the vegetable dishes out shined the meat dishes. Bottom line however is that the food, for the price, didnt compare to other tapas places in Boston & Cambridge that are $2 - $3 dollars cheaper per plate (and have better plate pacing). You will get a good meal here but it wont blow your mind. Small items: It took forever to get drinks. Our first round of drinks came 10mins after we got our first tapas dish. Cheese board came out halfway through our meal. Coffee and Cappuccino arrived half way through eating our dessert (and the desserts were not as good or fresh as the tapas plates) Pacing was just off for the whole night. Other than that the Hostess and Servers were nice and attentive. Never felt rushed or unattended.

Our half our wait turned into an hour quickly, and that was at 9pm! Pretty crazy. I dont normally eat that late, but I guess its Spanish food so we should eat late :) We had a few drinks at the bar while we waited, which was packed. We started getting nervous for the table size, as unless you got a booth it seemed too small for tapas plates, and we were right. Our drinks were great, except the white sangria which was a bit boring. Like something was missing. My whisky root was great as was my caipirinha. I dont recall everything we had, but the olives were enough for 10 people, and the mussels were mostly great. One was still closed and one was really gritty (glad I got it at the end otherwise I would not have been able to keep eating them). The frittata wasnt close to the best either of us had had. Service was okay, had to ask for water refills and a few other things, and sometimes didnt see him for a long time.

This place is absolutely phenomenal. The funky atmosphere gives a fun vibe to enjoy dinner to. The staff was extremely helpful and very attentive without crossing that line into "omg-can-i-breathe?" territory. I had a charcuterie and cheese plate, and was in a very happy place as I tasted the sweet, salty, and savory flavors mingling together in my mouth. The albondigas could give my Mexican ex-boyfriends mother a run for her money. They had the perfect balance of everything, without being overly heavy so I had room to enjoy everything else I ordered. The lobster risotto was like a dream come true, flawlessly executed, the best Ive ever had. The hangar steak came out cooked exactly how I wanted it and tasted better than I could imagine. The jamon and chicken croquetas were pure creamy deliciousness. Tonight was my first time here, and it definitely wont be the last.

Over priced for the food quality and super overrated. You have to call 5 times for reservation and they only would pick up once. When I called again to confirm my reservation, they said I dont see it!? Finally they made a new one but when we arrived at 9:45pm we had to wait 20 min to get a table, despite we had reservation and it was late so there werent that many people waiting for the table. So, whats the point for making a reservation!? Food were overly salted, the black ink pasta taste horrible: half burn on the bottom and all you can taste is the salt. Seafood paella was also extremely salty and the shrimps they used are very not fresh, shrimp meat were already mushy. Stay away.

Over priced for value. (Sunday lunch , I cant review dinner, I was told its a different experience) Lets start with the good : - chicken steak was amazing (and Im a beef guy) - lamb sliders were ok - service was good - the mushrooms with goat cheese were really good. now to the bad - the band, nice guys, the music was so loud no one could hear what the other people at the table were saying - the steak was just bad piece of meat (cheap) - could barely cut it, and it was medium rare - the empanadas were ok- not that good - the hotdog was not tasty - the potatoes were not good - the fries were socked in oil - not good

We went into Barcelona with a $100 gift card, and when we had finished our bottle of cava and rounds of tapas and got our check...had only spent $85. More wine, please. Decor is comfortably dark and cozy but hip, and was busy (but not uncomfortably crowded) when I was there recently on a Thursday for a 9:30 reservation. Prices are reasonable (moreso than we expected, it turns out), and the food was excellent. Patatas bravas are an obvious choice, but the flavors in everything we ordered were wonderful. Try the specials, order some cava, get a seat with a view overlooking the place to watch people come and go if you can.

If you like tapas and a fun setting than Barcelona is a great place. It has a nice patio in the front for grabbing drinks with friends especially when waiting for a table. If you can and remember you MUST make a reservation, otherwise be prepared to wait a long time on a Friday or Saturday night. The tapas are good, my favorite is the migas (chorizo with egg and bread crumbs), the mussels are also good, and other. The drinks are delicious, their red traditional sangria is a toss-up. Some days its great and others not so good. Their white herb one is really good however.
