Our company throws events at different bars in Back Bay area once a month, this time, we went to Clerys on Thurs, Feb 19th, 2016. The following story tells our bad experience now matter how good their foods were or what good drinks they had. Though the bar was about half empty, they started to create a big line around 6:00 PM at the door in that cold weather and as a result, some of our colleagues were not able to get in. I talked to the guy at the door, his manager, and the receptionist lady inside the door and informed them that we are part of one company and we are spending $1000+ and we want to be together (by letting our colleagues in), but that impolite door guy, and disrespectful manager ignored our requests to let our people in. They said to be head counting people who are coming in, which was absolutely not true because the bar was really empty inside. Everyone who was staying inside was shocked once they heard the bar has already created a big line in that cold weather by the door before letting people in because the bar was absolutely empty. What could be that stupid policy of keeping people in line by the door?! The guy at the door was extremely slow (I guess purposely) which prompted our colleagues to leave the scene without having any chance to get in. The story with another colleague was different. She went outside to answer a phone call, but the guy at the door didn’t let her in once she came back to join us again! Horrible!!!

Staff was terribly out of line. While dancing in the basement on a Friday night, a friend of mine had the top button of his shirt undone by another patron. Apparently to them, this justified two bouncers choking him up against a wall, and rudely screaming at our party to leave. Even after this, we attempted to negotiate and explain that he had not transgressed, but the employees simply continued screaming until we all were outside. Not until then, and after persistent requests to speak to the manager, did the manager finally come outside. He heard our complaint, and basically chalked it up to "s*** happens." Completely unprofessional. If you want to go somewhere with bouncers that will assault you for no reason if they get bored, look no further.

Exactly what you want in a neighborhood bar. Conveniently located? absolutely; right next to the Back Bay T station and parking lots. Takes credit cards? Yup - aint no one got time to go to the ATM. Has a dark dark dance floor that is not dissimilar to that frat house, with the sticky floors? OH YES. You, too, can get your dance-on in the basement playing Top 40, lit only by the faint light of the TV (usually on random infomercials) in the corner. Also, if youre a lady looking to mingle, this is the perfect place to be on a Thursday-Saturday night. Half-star off for the lines. PLURAL because theres one outside to get into Clerys, and then theres one inside to get to the debauchery of the basement.

This visit didnt start off on the right foot -- hostess offered us a 20-minute wait even though we saw some open tables ready to be cleared. We wandered to the backroom bar, got some rail drinks, and then were suddenly scooped up by an enterprising waitress, who sat us immediately. She stopped by on the regular, took our orders and delivered them in no time flat. The truffle tots were really, really good -- Ive had similar orders elsewhere, with their own creative twists (sriracha, various aioli), but this took the cake. And the NE Clam Chowder did not disappoint. About two minutes after we started our entrees, we got a call from the original hostess that our table was ready... yeah, no.

Last night the bartender confused my drink order and gave me four drinks. When I told him I only ordered two drinks he screamed at me told me get out and shoved the drinks away. He told me that I would have to dispute it with my credit card company which I am doing now. Total disaster of a place with people who are rude and unprofessional. Never have I experienced that. AVOID CLERYS AT ALL COSTS. Oh and later I saw him bragging to another bartender about what he did and they were both laughing about it. Way to go guy you really got me...

Line around 10:30 pm on a Saturday night- Decent, there was around 25-30 ppl before us but we got in 15 min in. No cover. Line getting to the basement dance floor around 11:30 that was empty 30 minutes earlier- ridiculous... and a night-ruiner. After an hour wait, we bounced. I was so mad because I was so excited for Clerys. Everything was so promising about this place, all except their extremely fake lines. Places are more disappointing when you expected them to be so great. Clerys is one of those places.

Clerys is a staple for after work drinks in the Back Bay. My coworkers and I frequently come here on Fridays. They have cheap drinks, good food, and lots of space. They also have a lot of T.V.s so Ill sometimes come here to watch NFL games on Sunday. Id advise staying away from the downstairs after 11pm on the weekend though. This turns into a sloppy college dance party. Unless thats your thing. No judgement.

Typical after work and late night bar. They have the cheapest drinks you will find in the backbay area but the place can get packed so be ware. Most weekend nights the line can get long so be ready to wait a while The first floor can get pretty busy and late night the basement floor fills up for dancing. The food menu is typical bar fare, bugers, fries, nachos ect. The food is decent and well priced.

Mix (decently-priced) alcohol, an affluent/post-grad/early-20s crowd (especially Boston College alumni), average/mediocre music, and what do you get? Answer: plenty of "jabronis and drunk chicks" ... but, otherwise, its an okay place (the dance-floor downstairs is standard debauchery). Avoid the blue-collar Budweiser and order a John Daly instead (spiked Arnold Palmer = iced-tea vodka & lemonade).

Went here after arriving in Boston as it was close to our hotel. Bar was not too busy so we got a table quickly. Our server Amy was polite, friendly and efficient. We ordered snacky food as we were not too hungry - the food was simple but very tasty. By the time we left the bar was very busy which demonstrates its popularity. Well worth a visit.

Huge bar with a lot of different side rooms. This would be a great place to host events. Food-wise, the buffalo wings are a must, while the nachos are a little sub par. The grilled chicken sandwich is really good and so is the lobster enchilada. Clerys has the NFL football ticket so on sundays this makes a great place to watch all the games!

besides it being free its exactly that okay. just because of the two lines u have to stand on first to get in and the second to go downstairs to the dance floor/bar drinks are okay the music is okay just wish the dj would play a little more hip hop i requested a song and the dj said they cant play hip hop because its "too violent"

I didnt go for dinner, but after 11 pm there is a line out the door for people wanting to drink. The basement effectively becomes a club. The dj was pretty good, mostly top 40 mixes but the crowd definitely turns up. Great dancing. Only minus is that you have to wait on a second line to get into the basement where everyone dances.
