The reason for my 1 star review, food poisoning. Let me start by saying we have been going to coal fire for a year or two and have enjoyed their pizza. We have not had any good experiences with any of their other dishes, but the pizza has always been good. This is why we have continued to go back. This past week, we ordered our normal pizza and a side of calamari. This was a bad move as exactly 24 hours after this meal we got really bad food poisoning. We know it was the food as we got the symptoms at nearly the same time. Also, neither my wife nor I have shared the same meal for the previous few days for breakfast lunch or dinner, so we shared no meals prior. Were not sure whether its the pizza or the calamari, but we will never be going back here again. I dont take getting food poisoning by a restaurant lightly which is the reason I wanted to share this review.

I went into this restaurant last night for dinner. Food was okay but not so great to justify poor service. Also they did not have any music at all on. I felt like i was eating in a restaurant that felt like it has already made it.Its a shame that a place that should be providing hospitality is basically there just to collect your cash. Kitchen is partially open and did not look like it was maintained for the amount of staff playing around in the place. I literally ate my whole pizza with jalapenos on it with out a drink! Come on guys get it together and manage your average restaurant with the goal to make it great. P.S. Wings need something to pull it all together. Dry bread dry chicken and roasted onions do not balance each other.

The first time we went here (family of 4), the pizza was "too charred" for our taste. Now we ask for "not charred" and it comes out just right for us -- still a very crispy crust -- just like the pizzeria we went to as kids in the NY suburbs. Weve been looking for pizza like this in EC/Columbia for 23 years. Finally, its here! We like the classic sauce, as the others seem a little too spicy. The roasted veggies when put on spaghetti are awesome, and so is their alfredo and their wings. Beer selection is good -- not too big of a list, but not just the usual beers you see at chain restaurants. I think that this place will get crowded as word gets out. I had to wait 20 minutes the last two times I went -- but it is worth it!

I was a regular here for years. A certain manager who started hating his job became toxic to the environment. I said to other regulars at the establishment that he was being a dick. The way word of mouth gets around there is like a high school girls gym locker room. The GM Scott TOOK ME OUTSIDE to threaten me that Im not allowed to say things like that in HIS restaurant or "would he have to kick me out". I have spent about 60 dollars a week here for 5 years giving them a total of $15,600 that I personally have given this establishment out of my own pocket. Then One GM thinks he is the ceo and I will most likely never step foot in another Coalfire restaurant. Avoid this place like the Plauge

Im a regular at this fantastic establishment. The staff is very friendly and the food is very tasty. I like traditional sauce and pepperonies on my pie. Been ordering the same thing for the better part of a decade, and it never gets old. I spend a lot of time at the bar, knockin back brews and enjoying the atmosphere. Gotta be honest: the servers are all extremely attractive and their personalities match. The manager is a big teddy bear. The guys who create the masterfully crafted pies are rockstars. The majestically charred pies fire out of the oven like Phoenixes rising from ashes! I will continue to frequent this spot for the foreseeable future. Peace, Love, Respect.

I tried out the new Gaithersburg location last night and was underwhelmed by the pizza. The signature sauce tasted like sugary tomato paste with a little heat. I was excited by the coal oven, but it appears to be wasted. How can the pizza be charred on the outer edges of the crust, but soft, doughy, and pasty in the middle 2/3rds? I only ordered sausage and basil--so it wasnt a mess of watery ingredients softening the crust. The crust is also fairly tasteless compared to the chewy yeasty crusts at the better Neopolitan places around DC. I put this on par with other corporate franchise pies like CPK or Bertuccis--not bad, but ultimately a bland experience.

Unfortunatey the DC/Baltimore area is not known for pizza. Especially thin crust pizza. I am from the midwest and love thin slightly crispy pizza. I have been to CT to pizza joints there and they are excellent. However, please dont go to Coalfire with that expectation. It was pretty good but, it is pricey, and its no CT or NY pizza. I do intend to go back the next time I want pizza. I recommend going during their happy hour because they have half priced pizza (10in) in case you are scared to waste money on pizza you may not like. The happy hour is Monday-Friday 3-6.

Love the pizza with the sweet and spicy sauce, but boy do they have a lot to learn about customer service. My wife and I stopped by on a recent Sunday evening, restaurant less than half full. When we requested a booth, the hostess informed us they were reserved for larger parties (3 people were sitting at one.) The manager came over and wouldnt budge, despite the fact that there were plenty of open tables for larger groups if they happened to come in. With all the choices for pizza out there, youd think they would have a clue. We wont be back.

This place is awesome! We had the Prosciutto Cippola pizza and it was delicious! The roasted onions were sweet, the sauce was savory, and the prosciutto was piled high. We cant wait to go back! (Also, they offer a military discount!) Do yourself a favor and go eat here; if not for the delicious food, then go for the warm, welcoming atmosphere! We had our three year old son with and everyone was super nice to him even though he was being quite the handful ;-)

Hands down best pizza Ive ever had! Weve been coming here for about 8 years. The pizza, how its cooked, the cheese, and most importantly three different sauces to choose from... amazing taste. Atmosphere is great, and the service is even better. Tina is the best bartender! If it were up to me, I would eat here two to three times a week, but the "Front Office" would veto that for sure. Enjoy!

Ive lived in MD 15 years and we struggled to find decent thin crust pizza. This is the best we found. Sauce can be spicier than one might expect. But there is a mild option. And you can ask for light char if you prefer to avoid it. Salads are excellent, especial the grilled caeser. Draft beer selection is limited. We eat here or take out once per week. Definitely recommend it.

When I first moved to the area a year ago I started ordering pizza and pasta. It was close but kind of pricey. But the quality of their product and their customer service has steadily gone downhill. Now its really not worth the money or the effort. There are better places nearby and I suggest you go there. Oh, and their pasta is disgusting. NEVER order their pasta.
