My wife and I made a choice to stop and grab a shrimp poboy from Parkway over a few places because of the tradition and for the most part you usually cant go wrong with a fried shrimp poboy! Right?....Boy, was I wrong. I purchased poboys for everyone we had with us at the time (sister-in-law, daughter, wife and myself), given this was a small gathering to spend time and watch movies with good food, we did a takeout order and went home. The poboys were warm and smelled delicious. We started eating and everything seemed ok. Well, the next morning I had the worst stomach pain and felt really dizzy. I couldnt understand what was happening but to save you from all the nasty details, I couldnt get off the toilet. Before long, I was throwing up my guts. My wife, daughter and sister-in law had the same symptoms. For 24 hours this it was horrible. I couldnt believe I was experiencing the effects of food poisoning. Once I gather myself and got the strength to call Park way Tavern, I asked to speak with the manager. The manager was rude and unapologetic. I simply wanted to tell them that we bought their poboys for dinner the other night and you may want to check you inventory (shrimp/seafood) for any spoilage or contamination. He basically told me I may have gotten food poisoning from somewhere else and that I was "Imagining things"....(4 people...same symptoms)....REALLY!!!. Listen, what restaurant wants to hear "ANYTHING" bad about their food....I get it.....However, dealing with any perishable items, especially seafood, if not handled properly is a formula for disaster. Well, he hung up on me and I didnt think it would have been wise for me to call back because I didnt want to raise my anger any further. However, please be aware of this place!!....At the time we purchased our food, there were a tremendous amount of people working in the kitchen and that could have possibly contributed to the problem we experienced or completely neglecting to check expiration dates.....Dumb.....thats no respect for the customers and even their own business. We experienced absolute food poisoning; however, we faired out....some people may not do so well...Ive even read that some people can die from food poisoning if not treated in time or correctly.....PLEASE BEWARE! AND CHECK YOUR FOOD AFTER YOU ORDER YOUR FOOD OR BEFORE YOU LEAVE THIS PLACE!!!!!....MY SUGGESTION......JUST STAY AWAY!!!

We visited Parkway Bakery & Tavern on our most recent trip to New Orleans. We ordered the roast beef poboy fully-dressed, hot sausage poboy fully-dressed, catfish poboy fully-dressed, sweet potato fries with debris gravy, and plenty of Barqs bottled root beer to wash it all down. Ill start with the dishes that missed the mark and go from there. The catfish poboy was a miss, though not because of any of the toppings or the deliciously crunchy bread. Rather, the fish didnt have much flavor, and the flavor it did have was gamey. This was unfortunate as it made this poboy challenging to eat even after being doused in Crystal. The hot sausage poboy was fairly good and enjoyable, though not quite as good as others in the city in our opinion (like Mahonys, which was more spicy and char-grilled). The roast beef poboy was one of the best Ive ever had in NOLA (which I would hope for since theyre well known for these). I also had Mahonys roast beef poboy on this trip, and its a toss up to which is better as they have some differences in flavor and preparation. That decision is ultimately up to you, as both serve a mean, roast beef poboy. The sweet potato fries were fine - nothing special - but elevated immensely by the delicious roast beef and gravy. In short, we had a good meal at Parkway Bakery. Id probably recommend sticking with what theyre most famous for, which is the roast beef, fried oyster, and fried shrimp poboys.

This spot is unassuming on the outside and busy (even during non peak hours) on the inside. Flew in on a whim to visit a friend of mine while some other friends decided to drive in. Our first stop was this place since I had requested a place I had yet to visit. Sandwiches are my favorite food group so people can imagine the excitement when I looked this place up. We pulled in around 1pm and tables were still about 75% full. The great eateries have this sound of clanking utensils on plates and this seemingly incandescent low mumble from the many conversations being said at the same time. In all we had: - Parkway Surf & Turf (smothered in roast beef gravy) - Half Muffelata (with huge helping of the chow chow they use to make it zing. Could have been a full if I didnt know any better) - Fries w. Roast Beef Debris (could be a meal on its own) - Hush Pupples (why not, it was the size of baseballs when we ordered it) - Unidentifiable Fried Foods (I honestly forgot. look at my pictures when I post it) General Tip: Their roast beef debris/gravy made everything more amazing it seems. I would suggest eating here during the day. Try and eat here at night and the idis will kill the rest of your evening. In saying that the meal killed the rest of our day. Luckily i was able to walk off some of it when we went downtown.

I have been wanting to try Parkway since I first joined Yelp. Thankfully, it lived up to the hype. The day I chose to trek out to mid-city from the westbank was a rainy one. It was raining so hard I began to question leaving my office. When I arrived I luckily found a spot on the street, and made the mad dash through the rain. Since I was taking my food to go, I ordered at the bar. This seems to be the ideal way to do things, as service was friendly and fast. Despite everyone recommending different things to me, my true test of a po-boy shop is their roast beef. Parkways version was very good. The bread was perfect with the right amount of beef and dressing. Despite their commercials that talk about how many napkins they go through, it was not too messy. In fact, it was as if they put the perfect amount of everything. The sandwich survived the trip to the westbank intact and did not become overly soggy. I highly recommend this po-boy. I really enjoyed Parkway. Now I just need to find more reasons to be in Mid-City so I can sample some of their other items.

Fantastic foray into NOLA history - coupled with an expansive Po Boy array. Parkway is de rigueur on the Po Boy circuit in NOLA. You know it, and they know it. Keep in mind that Oysters are only available on Monday and Wednesdays (at time of this review). Contrary to the rest of the universe, I favor the seafood options over the Roast Beef. Roast Beef Po Boy DOES take top billing at Parkway and I suspect they move a considerable amount of beef-on-hoof any given week. This is an experience no franchising could successfully replicate. Bar at the corner - vast eating-emporium (folding chairs/tables) fill the expansive covered courtyard surrounding the Ford Model-T. Pace yourself. No matter how hungry you think you are, the "large" roast beef isnt sensible for single-serving, human-based considerations. I sure do wish I could have ordered the Oysters last night - or perhaps even the shrimp... Dont get me wrong - Parkway is good! and I am giving this a positive four-stars, see? Its not like youll get a better Roast Beef po boy anywhere else...
