Very disappointing. First off, I really hate to leave bad reviews but I gave the manager every opportunity to provide decent customer service. First the food- very poor quality. If you want store bought sauces, tortillas and bland food, by all means this is the place for you. 2. I shared my disappointment with my server, expressing in a polite and a matter of fact statement when I was asked how everything was. He didnt offer to speak with manager. Apologize for my experience, or offer anything in return. 3. I called to express my experience with the manager, and all he wanted to do is get off the phone with me. He tried to convince me everything is made from scratch and again never provided good customer service by trying to win me back for another (hopefully better) experience. Also, if these dishes were from scratch, they need to find a new chef. Not trying to be mean, just saying that it seems like all they are trying to do is push alcohol and assume that the tipsy customer cant tell the blandness of their food. 4. They have the potential to really bring a new/better version of Mexican food, but choose to be like everyone else. If they are going to have sub par food with no sense of customer satisfaction, they can have my business for one time only and Ill spend my money elsewhere, and unfortunately with the managers completely jaded and unsatisfactory service Ill go online and share my negative experience. Again, hate to do so, but when a restaurant goes out of their way to not care, then frankly neither will I.

Jim Mestizo was rude to my mom... enough said. My mom received an email from Mestizos saying that entries would only be $14 (still bad price) today for their 14th anniversary. It didnt have times listed, just a date. When we received our check we were charged full price, so my mom went to speak to the manage. He told her it was only for lunch, and she was less than tactful in saying that we would have gone to Coyote Blues down the street if it hadnt been for the sale. He reluctantly fixed it, but then came to the table with the check and frown, handed it to my mom and said (in front of my dad and myself), "I just wanted to point out that nothing at Coyote Blues is $14 dollars." My mom asked him to repeat himself and then he did. She told him she liked the food better and he smirked at her and walked off. We obviously wont be going back. Additionally when I walked in he was chatting with the hosts (the owner) and I had to wait in line behind him to be seated. Hospitality at its finest. Mr. Mesitzo, a manager of a restaurant needs to be able to take care of anything with a smile... and he certainly should be rude to someones mother at the dinner table. Shame on you.

The guy who greeted me was pleasant and friendly. The guy Blane is funny. Hes a pretty good server will deff. Keep you laughing. The whole staff is very helpful and helps one another. The caso plain is amazing. Its a little pricy to me for 9 dollars but I will have to say its probably one of the best Ive had in a long time. Its got really good flavor and is thick. So I just tried the steak fajitas I will say they are mouth watering. I dont think Ive had steak so tender like this in a while and the presentation of the food is beautiful the owner is very friendly and the whole environment is crafty and different but overall a very friendly place and I will deff come back. Now I will tell you I feel like the price for the threo was a little expensive but in the restaurants defense you can tell that they took time in the cooking of their food and that its not a cheap piece of meat. Its got quality to it so even though my meal for 2 of is was 62 dollars and that was caso, threo, and 2 drinks I will deff come back no doubt. Just thought they could use a review of honestly. =)

We love Mestizos. The food is so creative and delicious. It is a wonderful place to eat and the food is never generic. The chili over beef enchiladas is incredibly delicious with more chili over the tamales, heavenly. The feta enchiladas are inspired. The quesadillas are so good - how can anyone call portobello mushroom and shrimp quesadillas generic?? The Pescado (sweet potato crusted tilapia) is divine. It is one of our favorite places to eat. Go and enjoy!

Unique and innovative cuisine. And look, I am biased. The owner is a longtime neighbor but on the other hand that means I know him well. Hes a good guy and I LOVE the restaurant! Jim is always innovating. For example, last year he came up with a cauliflower bowl dish thats just brilliant! I tried to copy it at home but couldnt quite get there. Almost. He takes junkets.

The service here was great and we were seated right away. The food was very bland and very over priced which is too bad because they give you so much of it. Steak was like eating a grilled sponge. Overall, it seems like this place was trying to put a spin on generic Mexican food but they spun it too much and wound up with a creatively disgusting menu.

Food was very bland got charged 2 bucks just for some sour cream. I felt like the waiter shouldve told me that it was going to be a charge for it before she gave it to me. Service was also slow and the place didnt have that many people in it.

And not just Mexican food. The best food in Baton Rouge. I eat our every Saturday for a late lunch and I have become a regular at Mestizos because of the food, atmosphere, and service. Keep up the good work. Fan for life.

Very convenient location next to our hotel. Very good steak and lamb chops. Server very friendly and efficient. Also good advice on local restaurants that locals ate at. You pay what you get so not for those on a budget.

Food was good, but a little overpriced. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was pleasant for any group. Easy to get in and out of, right off the interstate. Worth trying the restaurant once!

Contemporary atmosphere, eclectic menu featuring a fusion of Cajun and Mexican cuisine. Interesting, innovative, and did I mention the margaritas? Great choice for lunch or dinner.

Never a bad experience. Never a bad meal. More than just the best Mexican restaurant in BR, one of the best overall restaurants in the city.

Small portions. Staff and waitress were very nice. Good service. Bad food. Not Mexican fine dining for sure. Had better food at a taco truck.
