After reading reviews, had to try this place. It was surprisingly quiet at 1:30 on a Monday, but I think this place is not as busy as it could be due to how hard it is to get to (tucked away in the back of a shopping center with 1 entrance off a road off the main road). I was on a lunch break from work and drove over. I ended up having to wait about 15 minutes for my food which concerned me cause my LB is 45 minutes, but once I got it back to work and dug in, I realized it was worth it. I ordered the lunch portion orange chicken (only 5.95, great price) and some crab rangoons (cause I felt like treating myself :p ). The orange chicken was fantastic. Perfectly cooked, great sauce! Paired really well with the fried rice. Only complaint was the rice had a little too much stringy sprouts in it, but it wasnt bad by any means. The rangoons cooled down a little too quickly, and were only luke warm when I started eating them (slightly, slightly soggy), but the taste was great and they had enough filling-to-pastry ratio. All in all, for my first visit, I was impressed. My only other complaint was they didnt throw a fork in my bag, but thats forgivable. Next time I will order on the website for pick-up so I wont cut my break quite so close.

The soup is always piping hot and tasty, and the Empress Chicken is highly recommended. I have been going for almost 20 years, now, and personally, I feel no other place compares to Yen Ching. Its family owned, and there is a lot of love in the whole operation. The owner is also the chef, and he is always working hard in the kitchen. Despite that, he does make time to peek his head out and say hello. The atmosphere is intimate and simple—no bells or whistles going off, just the dining area and some soft music playing. So, it is excellent for a date, or for a quiet family dinner. Its very reasonably priced as well, and takeout is always an option with this restaurant.

Yen Ching is one of the best Chinese restaurants Ive been to and Ive been to quite a few. Having originally grown up in NYC where Chinese food is king, I can tell you that Yen Ching is first rate all the way and that even includes many restaurants in Chinatown itself. The service is excellent and very courteous. The menu is very varied and includes some dishes you dont normally see in many restaurants. The food is fresh, well made, plentiful and very well presented. I really have no favorite dish because everything Ive had tastes great. The place is also very clean, well maintained and very relaxing.

The food here is the best Chinese Ive had in Louisville. The service is always great and the dining room is never crowded. They have all of the classic Chinese dishes and several new menu items not typically found at your run-of-the-mill Chinese place.
