The immediate atmosphere as we entered was nice. You are greeted by a jade dragon ship as you enter. As we were taken to our table we were amazed at the decor everywhere you looked. It was very tasteful and added to the quiet atmosphere. Even the tables and seats were impressive and comfortable. Over all you could tell the place has been there for quite a while but it did not give off the mass production feel the other places in town do. We were waited on by an American and he was very polite and prompt on service, keeping our drinks filled and table cleared of plates. We ordered the dinner for two, my wife choosing the egg drop soup and I the seafood soup , the name eluding me at the moment. The soups were excellent! At the other places in town the egg drop soup was very thick and unpleasant. Their egg drop was perfect in its flavor and consistancy. My soup was a mix of vegetables, shrimp, and scallops in a light broth, topped with crisp fried rice. Unusual but enjoyable. The main course was sweet and sour chicken and Mongolian beef on a bed of fried noodles and rice. The sweet and sour was like most I have tried but as it was cooked to order it was far more enjoyable. The Mongolian beef was superb! The noodles added greatly to the dish and one I will be ordering again on our next visit. The rice was very flavorful and not of the fast food variety. It reminded me of brown rice but I am unsure if that was due to seasoning or the rice itself. The pricing is very reasonable for the quality and quantitiy of food and I would recommend it to anyone. On my way out I learned a bit on the history and art of noodle making. We give 4 thumbs up for The Empress of China!

This is Hands Down my favorite place in Madison to eat! The food has always been Delicious every time weve eaten here! The establishment always clean, the atmosphere pleasant and the staff has been very prompt and courteous. The Owners are often there and are the sweetest people you could meet! Years ago I brought my (then) infant with us to have dinner here. It was difficult trying to eat while holding a baby that refused to not be held, but I was pretty used to it. The Owners had come over and started talking to us, we had been there many times befor. The couple are Very Caring An polite people. They asked if they could hold my baby, and although I was caught off guard not used to being asked that in a restaurant, I said Sure! The woman held my little one in her arms rocking her back An fourth while smiling and cooing at her. Then she asked me if she could hold her for a bit so I could finish my meal! I was amazed An shocked to see such a wonderful Display of Kindness! Ive never forgot that and probably never will. We have been to eat here Many times over the years, and not once have we left disappointed! All their food is Great! In 20yrs there isnt many things we havent tried, and its not only Delicious but the servings are Enormous! We always bring home plenty for later!

Sometimes you dont always appreciate what you have until it is gone. We just moved from Madison,IN to New Albany, IN. Here in New Albany, good Chinese food is a myth. It could be because we have eaten at Empress for so long that we expect all Chinese to taste this way, but I cant express how much we miss eating here. The food is fresh and doesnt leave an after taste of oil. The egg rolls are wrapped in the thinner spring roll wrap and are crunchy and full of flavor, not a soggy fat wonton with little to no vegetable inside. The crap ragoon is taste like cream cheese and crab, it crispy, chewy and oozy a filling that is not too sweet. The ones I have had here are flat and really dont taste like anything except they oil they were fried in. The fried rice at Empress is made from their steamed rice and then the seasoning and fresh vegetables cooked just enough to still have a bit them, are added to it. The fried rice here have had kind of hardish rice, bright yellow from dye, and the vegetables are mushy. Again, I never thought finding a good Chinese restaurant would be that hard but I was so wrong. I guess I will be headed back to Madison soon for a much needed reprieve from the lack luster food joints here.

After a hike through Clifty Falls State Park, my wife and I were contemplating where to eat. We first thought to go to a Chinese Buffet. We were a bit disappointed that the restaurant had no buffet, but being hungry for Chinese, we sat down. After asking about our options we decided to try the dinner for two. GOOD CHOICE! The sizzling rice soup had big chunks of meat and vegetables; it was delicious. The home made egg roll and sauces was great. We both said if that was the end of the meal we would be satisfied, but out comes the freshly prepared Mongolian beef and sweet and sour chicken with a bowl of rice. The beef and chicken were just perfect. No fat, juicy, and huge servings. We ate as much as we could and still managed to fill two big styrofoam take home boxes. I can safely say this is the best Chinese I have ever had. If I lived in Madison, I would be a regular of the Empress of China.

What a waste of my time, asked if they do delivery (yes) gave them my location. Then she ask what I want, I tell her. Oh sorry we don't deliver for one person. WTF what kind of business you running here? I'm wanting to give you my money but you don't want it because you will not make delivery for one person, I don't think ill even dine in at this place.

This is the best Chinese food in Madison. The hot and sour soup is a must have! Their lunch specials are good price. Around five dollars for your main meal, an egg roll and a soup! Its a great deal! You can get lunch up until 2:30. Dinner is good too, and even though its more money you get tons of food.

Quick service for dine in or takeout, large portions. Ive enjoyed a variety of menu items, from appetizers to main dishes, and there is an excellent selection. Lots of vegetarian options, and the meat dishes seem to have a higher quality meat than other Chinese places Ive eaten in the area.

Empress of China is not your run of the mill Chinese restaurant. The quality of the food is excellent. I have never had a bad meal there. Empress is more authentic and the variety of dishes to choose from is wide. Going to Empress of China is simply a treat. Highly recommend it.

Traditional Chinese food. This is not a buffet nor does the food taste like the buffet as it is made to order and not in large batches. My favorite is that they have Thai offerings as well. My favorites, green beans, crab ragoon, lemongrass noodles and pad Thai.

There are four restaurants that serve Chinese in Madison, but this one is my favorite. The servers are not alway outgoing, but they do a fine job. At lunch you can have you order in as little as 5 minutes. Its not perfect, but its very good for our town.
