I was in on Friday visiting my friend (a LOU native) and wanted to try something new. She informed me of Grind and said that her and her boyfriend "had been eating there a lot lately and it was fantastic!". I wasnt really in the mood for a burger but the more she talked the more I really wanted to try this unique spot. Upon arrival there were maybe five people dining inside. And the atmosphere was rustic yet simple and the people at the bar/ order area were very nice. My friend had been getting the B&B burger and wanted me to try it, I am not the biggest fan or Brie so I asked what the order taker would recommend.. he said everything was good so I asked about a special. He then pointed me to the special burger which sounded very good. Mustard seed cheese and a bacon scotch jam (how could I say no?!) I ordered the burger with no pink (he suggested medium well, that is would be mostly brown with a slight pink tint to the center, I complied) and kale salad as my side and went to find a seat. After patiently waiting for about 10 minutes (about average for a fresh burger) my friends burger arrived at the table first. The presentation of this plate was right on point. She started to eat and my mouth was watering. After about 5 more minutes My burger arrived at the table (which also looked fantastic). I went for the kale salad first which was very savory yet lite, and then the burger. I bit down on my burger and realized something wasnt right. Though I had eaten my kale salad first a burger shouldnt be that cold... I released my bite to see just what I was eating. A severely under cooked burger patty. Cold. under the patty? A soggy bun soaked with what most people call blood (red bodily juices). I returned the burger to the front and they acted like it was a common occurrence. "Oh we will get you a cooked one out right away." By this time my friend was done eating and I was again waiting for my burger. It arrived hot and fresh and I devoured it. Hours later I am looking at my friend and she looks unwell. She takes me back to my car and we go our separate ways. As soon as I arrived at home in Lexington, KY I didnt even make it in the house before I started projectile vomiting. After a few hours of this I gave her a call.. she was also hanging her head in a trash can while on the toilet (need I say more?!) I firmly believe that this place does not handle their ground beef the way that they should be or I would have been the only one to get sick. This was an obvious case of cross contamination. The customer base is misinformed on how they cook their burgers or there is a lack of communication between kitchen/ front of house. Of course every place is different however generally speaking there should not be that much variation. I was never offered a refund, and have been trying to get a human to answer the phone since Friday evening (I realize that you are closed on Sun/Mon). I expect that someone will call me upon arrival Tuesday to work out this problem. My friend and her boyfriend (a well known realtor in town) will never be visiting Grind again nor will I (or anyone I can tell not to). I realize mistakes happen but not a hardly cooked/severely under cooked burger.

So impressed man. I have tried Kale salads at multiple trendy hipster food spots that have attempted such around town and I dont know who theyre making them for because ugh. I had one that literally tasted like an ash tray....could not figure out what theyd done to achieve this... NOT GRIND THOUGH, theirs was good enough for my boyfriend, who may as well be a kiddo taste bud wise, to devour. I also had gotten my stuff to go and it tasted good out of a box... I dont know how many times youve gotten a to go salad with your food somewhere and gone..wait i shouldve just gotten fries -_- salads in boxes are gnar. Nah, couldve eatin it out of a newspaper hahaha so good. That was only my side item though the main course was the veggie burger featured on Guy Fieris diners dives and drive ins or whatever, if you want a detailed shpeil on how its made google away. Its basically everything you could make a veggie burger from mooshed together finely ground into amazballs. It somehow has a smoky flavor and is topped with bbq. Once again even the picky boyfriend who hates vegan / veg stuff loved it.

Good: Very friendly staff. Eclectic menu. Caution: Its a bit confusing upon entry as far as where to go or what to do, however, for both my party and others to follow, staff is quick to spot you and greet you with menu in hand. Similar to the fast-casual concept, you will order at the counter, take a number and then seat yourself. The place can fill up quick and could be "standing room only," but that is simply a result of the restaurants popularity. Thanks: I always had trouble tracking down food trucks. I great appreciate the owners expanding beyond their wheels as well as their investment in the neighborhood. I also appreciate this meaty restaurant making sure vegetarians can enjoy the flavors as well. (There are roasted Brussels sprouts on the menu--how often do you see that on a menu?.... they are great!) If you never made it to the Grind Burger truck because it never fit your schedule, now there is no excuse... it has thrown an anchor. The place looks good, the service is good, and the food is great. Definitely a "must eat," IMO.

Ive been here a few times now and Ive been satisfied each time. A little on the pricey side as many have mentioned, but I have never left feeling I didnt get my moneys worth. Burgers are cooked exactly as requested and very tasty. Nice beer selection as well. I also like how these burgers are not huge piles that you cant fit into your mouth. Some people like that sort of thing but I dont. I often find burgers like that hard to finish and its unhealthy to boot. My server commented how some people complain about portions but I thought the amount of food was just right. This place and Bluegrass Burgers are the two best around in my opinion. Id rather give $13 for a burger here as opposed to giving $15 at a "southern" restaurant that just has that item to appease those that dont want to spend $30 for the other over-priced items on the menu.

My cousin recommended this place about a month ago and today I happened to be driving through town and I decided to give it a shot. And Im sure glad I did! I ordered the Southern Burger. The patty itself had obviously been smashed on the griddle, so the edges were very crispy while the center remained very juicy and thick! Between its seasoning and natural juicyness, the flavor was perfect! The sharp cheddar pimento cheese was indeed very sharp, just the way I like it! The bacon slices were thick. And although I am not usually a fan of spicy or a fan of pickles, their spicy pickles were awesome! They had a mild spicy kick at first bite that soon melted away into a lightly pickled flavor of goodness. I also ordered side of the crispy brussels sprouts which were a roasted to perfection and absolutely delicious! I cant wait to visit again!
