A truly wonderful place for brunch! Louisville is blessed with a large number of great Indian lunch buffets, and this is certainly one of the better of them. The food is a nice mix of various Indian cuisines, including southern and northern Indian as well as some Indian-Oriental dishes. In addition to the typical curries and tandori (all of which were freshly prepared, continuously refilled), the biryani was incredibly flavorful, and there was a noodle dish which I had never before seen in an Indian restaurant... but the dish would compare favorably to almost anything that Ive eaten in a good Thai restaurant. The waitstaff was attentive and courteous and quite willing to answer questions about some of the more esoteric dishes, and they came around at intervals delivering little "treats", including a buttermilk yogurt drink and a wonderful potato-stuffed masala dosa lentil pancake. The atmosphere is interesting, with the the entire room done in dark woods and the lights kept low. There were a number of tv sets set to Bollywood music videos.... not your typical mood music, but interesting for a change nonetheless. The price, as is typical for the Indian buffets in Louisville, is remarkably cheap. I dont understand restaurant economics, but it would seem that theyve GOT to be losing money on each and every customer with the price of groceries nowadays. The dinner menu was voluminous with food broken out by type of cuisine as well as informative maps of the cuisines of India and the specialties of each of the Indian states as well as other helpful info as to the components of each of the many dishes on the menu. Well definitely be back; two thumbs up!

Im originally from the UK where there are Indian restaurants on every street corner and ever since moving over here Ive been very disappointed in the Indian food on offer. Weve tried Shalimar, India Palace and Kasmir (the big "names" in Louisville) and theyve been decidedly average at best. After trying Dakshin on a whim we thoroughly enjoyed the lunch buffet. We went a little early so the lunch food was freshly dished out and despite being fairly quiet enjoyed the atmosphere too. The location isnt great and it looks a little tacky from the outside but get past that and its very nice on the inside. Of all the dishes available on the buffet, of which there plenty, only one of them wasnt desirable. Everything else was excellent. At one point my wife commented that she felt unable to stop mmm mmming after every bite. As others have pointed out, the buffet doest have quite the selection of some other restaurants. The buffet was very reasonably priced too. Weve paid upwards of $10 in some restaurants but this was closer to $7. Well definitely be going back in the future.

We went there last night for our date night. The atmosphere is a little odd for me- there was incense burning in the lobby, and it was dimly lit. We arrived at 5:30ish and the place was empty. However, they had a TV playing Bali version of MTV and it was loud and distracting. But the food! It was very good, and there were a TON of choices. We opted to go with all Northern Cuisines. We also got Chapati which was delicious, we ordered two appetizer and a mean dish which was served with seasoned rice. All seemed to be prepared wonderfully. The one marked HOT was very, very spicy. Ill probably go for something a little milder next time. Service was friendly and fine, but there did seem to be a bit of a language barrier, which I expected so it did not bother me. I just made sure to point to the items on the menu that I wanted. We will be back. I am hoping they TURN DOWN the televisions next time.

Beware about this restuarant. Name is a misnomer. It does not serve anything close to south indian food. Food is passable at best. Service is utterly inadequate. Right from the Usher, who seemed furstrated at her job and did not know how or where to seat people who wanted to eat Chaat or rather greet people, to the overly dressed waiting staff with traditional indian turbans, owner with a baseball cap on was completely out of place. Had to make repeated requests for water refills and even the check. Blaring Indian music, bad temperature control, cheap bollywood posters, owner sucking up to people he knew and ignoring others, this place was such a waste of time and money. Will never visit again or recommend it to others.

After reading all the reviews online, I had to check this place out. I was surprised to actually leave pretty disappointed. The lunch buffet was incredibly bland. There just wasnt much taste to anything. Also, the buffet is a bit smaller than Sitar, Taj Palace, and Shalimar. Besides naan and rice, there really werent any vegetarian dishes either which was a disappointment. Also, it was so dark in this restaurant that you cannot even see the desserts to decide which one you want! The service was fine, the price is the same as the other Indian restaurants, but the location really is terrible. All in all, we left craving Indian food from any of the other Indian restaurants!

Had dinner there earlier this evening. Food was excellent. Service was okay, but we were confused about exactly who was supposed to be waiting on us. We noticed that all the servers seem to interact with various tables at various times. We were finished eating before anyone checked back with us. The staff is simply untrained; the restaurant has all the markings of a mom-and-pop establishment that has engaged family members and close friends to work there. Despite the full house of diners, we saw the manager and the three servers standing in the rear service area watching TV. They just dont know any better. Fortunately, the food is enough to inspire us to return.

Worst experience ever. Last night I called n place a to go order exactly at 9 pm n I confirmed the time that it will be ready by 9:30 pm. I live in shepherdsville, about 25 miles away n took me abt 40 mins to reach dakshin. My food was not ready, sure they didnt make it or forgot. I had to wait another 25 mins and the tandoori chicken I got was old from the buffet and instead of 6 pieces, there was only 3 dried out drumsticks n 1 funny looking thigh. Im gonna attach a pic of it with this. Will never go there again . Wasted $1000. $50 worth of food., $30 worth o gas and the rest for my time. Shame on you dakshin.

Amazing food! I get together with a girlfriend about once a month for dinner and we decided to try Indian food (Id never had it before.) Great choice. This restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly and efficient and the food is AWESOME. I dont know what I had in mind when I thought of Indian food, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Our server was very helpful in guiding us "newbies" into some dishes that were just spicy enough and took the time to explain a little about the foods he recommended. Its in Eastland shopping center, so its not in a "high rent district" but it is SO worth trying.

Food was ok. Service and atmosphere awful! The server could not answer any of our questions about the menu. Our appetizer (vegetarian platter under appetizers) was brought and served to one person at our table....one plate, one set of silverware, in front of one person. More than one man standing around with arms crossed, glaring angrily at our table. Do not know what that was all about. Tried to order an avocado smoothie that is on the menu. The server didnt know what we were saying and the other guy came over and said "we dont have it!". Very uncomfortable and disappointing.
