CAFE THUY VAN is the best vietnamese in the city. People WHO THINK THEY KNOW FOOD, even WRITE ABOUT FOOD, do not even hardly know of this place. ITS A UNFORTUNATE REALITY OF Louisville, they think they know what is what and they have their heads up their a**. CAFE THUY VAN IS the most authentic.....THE beautiful vietnamese community all go there to eat....you will be a minority there eating if you are not vietnamese...homestyle is the way it goes there and you will feel like family when you eat there. The brisket or tripe PHO is theraputic. IT is a bit better than VIETNAM KITCHEN and way better than ANNIES and it DESTROYS that silly pho place in butchertown where they spend tons of money on the decor but unfortunately not the food. THE WAIT STAFF IS AWESOME AND people who are complaining about having to bring cash as a knock down on the experience of the eatery is the same reason KY GETS made fun of by civilized places...RESPECT the biz owner. they have their reasons. THEY DONT want greedy credit card fees. CASH IS KING so do it authentic and quit complaining. these people probably have a hard time getting off the couch so im surprised they even got to cafe thuy van cause it is a little bit of a trip BUT SO WORTH IT. CAFE THUY VAN THE BEST IN THE CITY, NOT ONLY FOR VIETNAMESE BUT FOR ASIAN! ( SUSHI IS GOOD IN LOUISVILLE BUT VIETNAMESE IS KING )

Last night we went to the "Popular Higher Rated" Vietnamese place and it was good. And tonight we wanted to have it again. Come to find out they are closed on Wed. So we did a quick search and at the bottom of the google search for "Vietnamese" This place did not come up under a search for "PHO SOUP". We found it...and as we drove into the parking lot it looked really sketchy. The bar next door had a bunch of old guys outside laughing it up. And there is no sign for this place. Just white stickers on the window. We almost didnt go in. We walked in and a Vietnamese guy yelled "Cash Only". And I said we have cash. We sat down and it was very clean and super authentic. We ordered the spring rolls with shrimp, the beef meatball pho and a grilled pork bowl over vegetables and vermacelli noodles. The food came and WOW...it was stellar. This place rocks. The food was better, and it was way cleaner than the "Higher Rated Pho Soup" place in Louisville. This place is a little gem. It is a hole in the wall.....but wow.

This is hands-down the best Asian restaurant in the Louisville Metro area; and one of the best of any type. Depending on the time of day, service may be slow regardless of how many people are dining, and its cash only (which are the two things that prevent me from putting this place at Number 1), but the food is well worth it as well as authentic (I grew up eating Thai and Vietnamese cuisine, so theres no need to take that with a grain of salt). The staff is polite and helpful, the portions are reasonable to large and the presentation is above average.

Waited more than 30 minutes for my food, then watched as my food was delivered to another customer by accident. The management corrected the mistake, but still charged me full price for my dish. Other than that, the food was good, and the staff is very polite. This is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant.

Cafe Thuy Van is a hidden gem. After reading a recent review in the LEO weekly, we visited on a weekday morning and enjoyed a vermicelli bowl, spring rolls, and a Vietnamese salad. We plan to return soon and try some more adventurous fare. Cash only, but low prices and a very friendly staff.

Beautiful decor but the pho broth seemed a little off - a bit strong with the cardomon, I think. The hand-cut meat was delicious. Instead of jalapeno slices, they served chopped habanero which is excellent in pho. They served a sawtooth herb in addition to the basil and sprouts.

The best Vietnamese food in the city as far as authenticity and taste. Especially a favorite with Vietnamese and lovers of Vietnamese food. For safe bets, try the pho, the pork and rice, and the banh mi. The best banh mi in the city for only $3.50, youll want at least two.

This is the BEST place in Louisville to get PHO! It is always amazing, never had a bad experience, the workers are super friendly. If you havent been here I highly recommend it. I also try and take a new person at least once a week.

Awesome. We showed up with 12 people and they set us up in like 2 minutes. We had never had Vietnamese food before, and they were super helpful since many of us are vegetarians. It was DELICIOUS. Win

The shrimp pho is divine, not in the menu, but ask for it. Extremely friendly staff, and delicious food. What more can you ask for?
