This place was no where near the hype of all the positive reviews it has received. Is it possible that these reviewers have never had real authentic Mexican food? They dont even use real cheese as far as I can tell. My enchilada, was dripping with this artificial cheese sauce that tasted like no-name mac and cheese. The food was very bland, with no heat or enough spices to give it a real mexican taste. The entrees were served all souped together on a plate that was disgusting looking. Sure the portions were moderate but who would want to eat the slop that is served up in front of you? The wait staff is not very friendly more like robots just doing there jobs. No real interactions or personality. Maybe it was the language barrier? We tried this place due to the city being so small and not many places to choose from and were very disappointed. I think diner food would have surpassed theirs. As far as I can see this is a wanna be mexican restaurant chain that needs a revamp by Chef Ramsey. Also the inside smelled very musty and the margaritas were aweful too using the cheapest tequila possible and having a bitter fake mixer. Would I recommend this place? That would be a resounding NO! Cheap ingredients used that are artificial with no flavor and there is no real ombiance of being in a true ethnic restaurant, poor wait staff and drinks sucked, need I say More??? Not worth the indigestion that follows!!! 4 and 5 star reviews really? Aauugghh! Only a 1 star if that!!!

I eat mexican all the time and I must say this was the best I have had in a long time. The portions are not overloading and the taste was out of this world. The chicken says spicy but it is not so hot that it burns but full of awesome flavoring to make it very tasteful. My wife and I ride our motorcycle to the area for a full day of country roads and our only regret was that the area was not known for there restraunts to eat at. We arrived on a very very hot day and went in to a nice cool, clean, atmosphere and topped it off with the best mexican I had ate in years. We will definately return next time we are in your area and only wish the mexican restraunts at home were the same. MY HATS OFF TO YOU AND YOUR STAFF. We ate off the lunch special and could not have gone to McDonalds any Cheaper. Thanks again from the both of us.

We stopped in with someone who lives around here and eats here regularly. The burritos are good, the chips were warm and they have good margaritas (on the rocks). The salsa was typical and kind of bland but you have to understand thats what most people want. The kicker was they have a tart salsa verde they will bring on request that is outstanding and extremely hot but its not on the menu. They also have a version thats not hot but had cilantro and onion in it. The hot version was one of the best Ive ever had and they should consider bottling the stuff. It might be liability or something because it really was hot but the flavor was perfect for us to go with our food and is a hidden gem if you like authentic flavor. I grow my own peppers and Im kind of a chile head so it was a treat.

Pros: Very nice decor Extensive menu Friendly service Decent prices Delicious food Cons: Cant really think of any. Perhaps the menu is too large and it takes too long to decide what to order I highly recommend Pollo Neto (I think that is how you spell it). Its a relatively new dish with minced sausage on top of very nicely grilled chicken that is tender and moist. Grilled onion on top just gives it very nice flavor and texture. It has a kick to it (spicy) so make sure you can tolerate at least a little spice. The accompanied salad had lots of avocado slices which I like. The chips that came first was fresh and not salty, which is great for us since we are watching our salt intake. The Enchilada was also done very well. What a nice place to have in Cave City!

Unbelievably delicious Mexican food here. I have lived in Texas and Arizona and never eaten anything better than what we got here in Cave City, Kentucky! Most of the AZ restaurants have started putting their fajita meat in a steamer and its generally tough and chewy or ridiculously expensive. We ordered the special for two which came with beef and chicken fajita meats, shrimp and even four delicious smoked pork ribs and two grilled slabs of pineapple along with all the usual accompaniments. It was all outstanding. We ended with the dessert sopapillas and they were exquisite. The atmosphere was pleasant, the servers and other workers were great and the prices were reasonable. I would go out of my way to eat here again.

Oct. 29, 2014 15:30... Staff-friendly, yet not sociable Service-good Atmosphere - relaxing Portions-plenty Salsa & Chips-good Sweet Tea- great Cheese dip-good Salads- slightly wilted Tropical Shrimp Fajitas-dry...the shrimp were dry, overcooked. It could have been great, but the shrimp were overcooked. Price-ehhh...if the shrimp had not been overcooked I would not complain...however $37 for a sweet tea, a diet coke, a bowl of cheese dip, a shrimp fajita, and a tropical shrimp fajita...a bit pricey if you are asking me, especially since the shrimp were chewy! Needless to say, I will not be stopping here again...if I take this exit I will simply eat at Cracker Barrel or McDonalds.

The El Mazatlan is a spotlessly clean restaurant thats bright and open inside. The staff are friendly and fast, and check on you often. The food is closer to authentic Mexican/central-American than to Taco Bell, and thats a good thing. But, as the restaurant is in Kentucky, the dishes are missing the "hot" spices that you would expect from most TexMex or AzMex. If you miss the heat, you can always add some shots of salsa picante to your food. My dinner for one came to just over $10 (before tip). You can be taking a risk when travelling to try a local restaurant. Theres no risk here. El Mazatlan is a sure thing.

I wasnt expecting great Mexican food in a place like Cave City so walked into this restaurant with no hopes. I was pleasantly surprised!! First thing I noticed was the consistent theme on the decor all throughout which looked great and lively, very good ambiance. We were greeted and seated promptly. We ordered fajita for two which was pretty sizable and tasted awesome! Fajita Jalisco was also real good. Margarita on-the-rocks truly rocked! Great quality, prompt service and good value for money. Would really recommend this place.

OK... I dont write many reviews, but this restaurant definitely deserves one... I ordered the Fajitas Jalisco. Instead of steak, I replaced it with chorizo, which is Mexican sausage, if you didnt know. Man, I travel A LOT and this is one of the BEST FAJITAS experience Ive ever had. Everything was cooked perfectly, including the shrimp. The staff was well dressed, professional and attentive. If I lived in Cave City, Id be at this restaurant at least a couple times a week! A+ FOR SURE!

Im from out of town, this was probably one of the most bland mexican food Ive ever eaten. Nothing had any spice to it, the salsa was watery and without flavor, and again, not even slightly spicy. I had the chimichanga, it was very underwelming. The pico de Gallo was bland, the guacamole was bland, the sauce tasted like sour cream, which was a travesty, and the giant glob of unnecessary sour cream was very telling of the poor quality of the meal.
