Bad food and Bad management! My daughter and I have talked about going to Steamer Seafood about a week ago. Today, we decided to go for mothers day, (husbands paying). We left church about 10:15 am to get ahead of the crowd, not such luck. We got in line about 10:30 or so in the hot blazing sun. It said they opened at 11:00am, and they did not open a minute sooner. The line started moving and we were happy, my husband, daughter, her husband and their three boys, ages 7yrs, 3yrs, and 11 months, what fun in line. Inside of the restaurant, happy, then we are told that since it was 6 plus of us we would have to wait again, another 30 mins. We were told we could wait the on patio, which was very sunny. NOTE: 4 or less served faster. We sit there watching all the people behind us go in. The young ladies up front was giving the spill that they could not open before 11:00am, corporate policy. Whoever did the research to open in Bowling Green missed the part about how holidays (esp) mothers day, MOST OF THE RESTAURANTS OPEN UP EARLY. Once they opened up the doors and about half of Bowling Green was there, not to mention the other half of warren and surrounding counties, they have to eat also. Finally, we get to sit at a bar-like table with a lot of other people. We order our drinks and my husbands get iced tea, they bring it out and it has a spring of mint, guess what the mint has droppings on it from some kind of pest. It looked like what I see in my garden plants. When one of the wait staff came to the table, he tried to tell them what the problem was and not to put anymore mint in his tea. Few minutes later he got his tea, and guess what? It has a huge sprig of mint in it. We are ordering our food, I ordered the salad as usual, which was ok until I got the ranch dressing, it barely tasted like ranch dressing and poured like water, hubby catfish, he would not complain either way, except droppings in tea, daughter ordered shrimp and grits, looked like shrimp was floating in watered down grits, she sent that back, we are from the south and we know what grits are suppose to look like, oldest son gets catfish nugget, middle son gets shrimps, which look like they came from grocery isle, a lot of bread, hard to find shrimp inside and a serving of FF for two of his size. The portions were small (maybe because it was lunch time), but if you love fries, this is the place, the plate seem to be over half filled with fries in a small oversize soup bowl and daughters hubby said something, to far away to hear him and all the other people talking. All in all food was not great and badly served. My husband and I have decided that we are not going back. Daughter got a certificate of apology to come back, said would try again on a non-holiday and see if that makes a difference. Just a few questions. How do you feed a mass at 11:00am and do it properly? Did you all not see how many people were outside? Does corporate now allow the management to use judgment or was corporate there making the decision? Corporate maybe you should suggest next mothers day, open at 10:30am like the other restaurants in BG. HINT: GRADUATION IS coming up soon, the same thing happens on that day as mothers day. By the way I was told all Steamers open up at 11:00am, according to the web, the one in Hilton Head opens at 11:30am. One thing can be said about BG, every restaurant that opens, every body goes to it for the first month, then it slacks off. Hope this does not happen here. By the way, we do have another restaurant/fast food or whatever you want to call it...Its Bojangles Chicken, also known as BOBOs. Cant wait!

Restaurant seems to cut corners trying to save a nickel; too bad because their prices are quite high to begin with, particularly for BG. For instance, other restaurants of this caliber usually bring some sort of bread to the table as a starter, typically a small baguette, (or at least cornbread or hushpuppies for a fish house.) Not here. No bread of any kind. ALL sides are $3.00 extra, including potato chips and coleslaw! When paying $48 for an order of crab legs, you might expect at least a small side salad. Nope; $7.00 extra at Steamer. My entrée was $28, which consisted of a small piece of grilled grouper, a large portion of steamed squash/zucchini/onions, 1 small slice of baguette, and literally a few roasted potatoes. My partner also got 1 small slice of bread, but we had been given only one tiny packet of butter to split between us. Portion size was okay, but it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that youre paying so many dollars for is mostly steamed squash, which only costs this restaurant a few pennies. Food was pretty good, but somewhat over-salted, as noted by other reviewers. The owner/operators put a lot of money into refurbishing this building; they did a good job. However, I have talked to many friends who dont like the "communal seating" tables. (Most people dont necessarily want to share dinner with someone they dont know.) While this restaurant has a noble ambition, I just dont see it surviving in BG, especially with these prices and when they skimp on cheap basics.

On our way back to Nashville, we stopped in Bowling Green to search for any decent restaurant open on a Sunday. We tried to find people we could ask for a recommendation, but not a soul could be seen in the area of town or side streets we passed. Driving thru Bowling Green after dark, we saw lights in what was clearly a restaurant with no name. (their sign fell off and they didnt have a chance to remount it). But, it looked very nice inside and out. Also important, there were many people inside dining. It was such an unexpected surprise to see such a simple but elegant seafood restaurant after a long search. I had the She Crab chowder which had enough crab in each spoonful. Not too thick. Very good. The lettuce wedge salad with bacon, tomato, cheddar, was fresh. My Shrimp Creole was simply excellent. The creole rice was mixed with a very flavorful sauce, with a hint of spice. The shrimp was perfectly cooked with a nice crunch. Members of my group enjoyed the Beef "bits", grilled chicken, fried flounder and fried shrimp. Wait staff was professional, courteous and knowledgeable. Who knew we tourists could find such a place like this in Bowling Green. After such a great eating experience I was smiling all the way back to Nashville. Oh yeah, what a neat surprise to find an ingenious and novel washing "sink" in the bathroom. What a brilliant and novel idea for a hand washing "sink". Never seen anything like it (not even in NYC). You must see it for yourself. But, go for the food.

DISAPPOINTED!! I hate giving bad reviews but felt compelled after this meal. I went with my wife for a lunch date on a Saturday afternoon. There were only a handful of people in the place, so we had quick service and were able to pick our own table. I will have to say this is a very clean, pretty restaurant with a nice atmosphere, but thats the limit of my positive experience. I had the Voodoo Skillet, because I didnt want to spend $30 on a lunch sized fish portion, and added a Caesar Salad. Never got my salad, although the server did realize this about halfway through our meal. My dish consisted of a bowl of green peppers, onions, and red potatoes swimming in a full 1 inch of pure grease. 3 shrimp that truly deserved the name shrimp due to tiny size and 3 scallops that were even smaller. Trust me, I am a big Southern guy who loves his greasy fried foods, but couldnt finish this due to the super salty oil that made up half the bowl. I have heard good things about this place, so will give them another chance, but as far as this visit. YUUUCCCKKK
