10 days ago around 7:30am I went in for some breakfast and wanted to try the new harvest scrambler sidewinder dish. I had gone to Village Inn mostly only for dinner, and the quality was generally mediocre so I didnt expect much. When it came out, PHENOMENAL! I couldnt believe it. (See the picture!) The sauce was creamy and sophisticated, everything was cooked correctly and evenly, with so many flavors. It was so good scrapped the dish with my remaining English muffin to enjoy every last bit. I told all my friends about how delicious it was, and most of their reactions were, "Where? Village Inn? Seriously? The one here?" I was shocked too. I planned to go back again, especially when a coupon for 25% came in the mail. I was not able to go for breakfast, but dinner came around and I didnt want to cook. I ordered the same thing tonight and the two picture also attached show what I got (YES THE SAME VILLAGE INN). Already from the appearance, I could tell it was not like the first time. As I started eating, the sauce was curdled and thick and much more mushroomy-- not at all like the first time. The spinach was overcooked and burnt, the artichokes were hardly cut up and thrown in whole heart without fully cooking. The eggs, onions, and mushrooms were just all off. And the potato things were soggy. I think the best part of the first time was the creamy sauce with the crunch of the potato sidewinder. I stomached down what I could, but even still I could not eat anymore. The dish showing what I left behind better illustrates the sauce and burnt spinach. At check out, the manager rung me up, and I told him the food was not good at all. He gave me the meal free of charge, which I did not expect. I truly hope they can figure out the quality issues between shifts. While I loved it the first time, I have lost my appetite to go to Village Inn anytime in the near future.

Food was incredibly disappointing. Everything was bland. Mac and cheese was not mac and cheese. It had a grainy sauce that had no cheese, chicken was incredibly dry and it was topped with croutons (description said bread crumbs). It was clearly microwaved. Burger had absolutely no flavor and was dry and about half the size of the bun. Service was the only good thing about dining here. Although the waitress forgot some things that were ordered and the person microwaving my food forgot ingredients on my burger, she was apologetic. They put no effort in hiding the fact that the food here is microwaved. Spent way too much money on bland microwaved food. Also, we felt sick to our stomachs after the meal. I would strongly suggest avoiding this place.

Worst Villiage in I have ever been to. We went with a group of 10 people after graduation. It took us about half an hour, our waitress didnt even come get our drink orders for another hour. After asking what we wanted to drink it took another half hour for her to bring them, she didnt take our order for another 5 minutes. It took our food another hour to come out and it wasnt warm at all. We talked to the manager and he let us have two free pies. When the waitress brought it out she brought us two PIECES of pie (you tell me how 10 people are supposed to share that).

I consider myself somewhat of a food critic having worked 5 years in the food service industry. Ive been to most of the Village Inns in the Des Moines area, and the one here in Ames definitely takes the cake (or pie, perhaps). The service is always prompt and friendly. My usual server, Becca, is personable and delightfully humorous, but the other servers Ive had are great as well! The food is ALWAYS fresh and brought to my table promptly just the way I ordered it. This restaurant is also very clean, which really is the icing on the cake (err...pie?)

Dined here recently with a group of 4 other people. The restaurant was busy, but we wre able to get a table fairly quickly. What ensued was a horrid wait of over an hour after we had placed our order for food. The food was cooked unevenly with a lot of it lukewarm or even cold, obviously some items had been sitting for a while. The wait staff was literally slow in their actions and also appeared to be untrained. Food was overall mostly unappetizing and inconsistent.... You are tenfold better to go to The Cafe in Ames for a quality breakfast.

The staff and service has greatly improved in recent times. I prefer going to Village Inn rather than Perkins because the staff are much more attentive, and the selection is much less geared to breakfast only. I really enjoy the many dinner selections and they also have light selections when I do not want anything too heavy. Thumbs up from me.

Waited ten minutes after being seated to have order placed. Couldnt even get four drinks rigjt. I am a vegetarian they No longer have veggie burgers as an option. The waiter could only suggest egg dishes for a veggie lunch. I ordered toast with no butter. Best to go to Perkins more variety better wait staff.

The service sucks, the waitress spilled dressing all over my daughter and then brought a dirty towel to clean it up. The food was lousy, and lets not forget soda refills. Yeah I will never eat at the Village Inn in Ames again. I would rather starve.

Theyve got rid of appetizers which didnt make me happy so many if these good sit down places get rid of the best stuff to save money which I understand. But your losing customers at the same time so how much are you really saving

Likely the best food and service I have ever received at a Village Inn. Not that others are/were bad, but this location is just that much better. Kudos to management and employees.

Hit or miss with this place. Usually a miss on food and service. Waitstaff is inattentive and apparently trained poorly. Perkins is nearby and usually a better choice in Ames.

Gave my wife such a stomachache that she went into labor. My food was tasty though. Staff was nice also, very quite night though. Visited on a Friday around 7:30.

Free pie on Wednesday nights with purchase of any item. Chill staff, good service. Also, they have good breakfast options all day. I would recommend.
