Very Embarressing . My boyfriend and I went to Pella for the first time yesterday, We heard about this Bakery and we thought we would stop in. As you walk in, there is a barrier dividing the shop and Bakery Items forcing you to go one way. As we moved into line we saw some things against the wall that we wanted to look at. Meanwhile more people started filling up the line. There was a younger guy in front of us who did not want to wait in the line that was filling up quickly, My boyfriend watched him climb back over the barrier because there was no other way out. He then did the same . I tried to follow him but was wearing a long skirt, I tripped over the barrier and my skirt caught it and knocked it down. Not one person came up to me to ask if I was ok! Just a bunch of people starring at me and dirty looks as if I were a common criminal!!! Really, I am almost 50 years old and have never been more humiliated. For this reason, We left Pella. We will not be going back to the bakery or Pella.

I grew up in Indianola, Iowa; about an hours drive from Pella (in those days). Every 2 months wed pile into the car and drive to Pella for the afternoon. Wed eat Pella Sausage at a local eatery and then head for the Jaarsma Bakery. My mother would buy an incredible amount of pastry there, lots of cream horns (my particular favorite), and 5-6 of the Letters. I agree with the other reviewers, the letters were INCREDIBLE!! My parents are now in their 80s and living in Corpus Christi, TX. I am so pleased to find the bakery will ship product out of state. Boy! are my parents going to be surprised!! BTW Pella, Iowa is the hometown/boyhood home of Wyatt Earp, which is how I stumbled across the bakerys website. One of the anecdotes told of the young Earp is a bully at school was harassing him for being Dutch. The next day Wyatt showed up wearing wooden Dutch shoes and proceeding to stop the daylights out of him with them. I assume he had no further problems from the kid.

Had to come to Pella for some training for work and heard about Jaarsma. I decided to stop by in the morning and pick up a few things to take home for my family to try. The cases were full and there were so many different choices I had a hard time deciding what to get. I asked for assistance with picking out some of the best sellers, and came to find out that the staff is just as wonderful as the bakery itself! The staff was patient and willing to describe all the baked goods to me and give recommendations. I left that morning and actually ended up coming back later in the afternoon before I left town. I was assisted by the same staff member who, again, was more than welcoming and happy to assist me! Prices are amazing for such great quality treats. Got home and everything tastes wonderful. Cant wait to come back and try some of the other products! Would recommend to anyone I know.

My mother inlaw is 91yrs old she grew up in Sioux Center Iowa and now has lived in Oregon for over 52yrs and she has never stopped talken about Jaarsma Bakery when she found out we could get all the info for this bakery on line she was very excited, we order a few of each cookie/pastry for her for Christmas she was so happy when the delivery driver dropped off a box from Jaarsma Bakery. Those cookies/pastries were gone before I could taste one. We will continue ordering from Jaarsma Bakery maybe one of these days I will get to taste them, she keeps telling me how good they are.

My group of 6 visited Pella for the car show July 12th. Finding the Crispies at your bakery were the highlite of my trip because they taste exactly like I remembered them from my hometown bakery in Sioux City as a kid. We are already booked at the hotel for next year - I look forward to more Crispies. Oh, that Flavor! By the way - everything we purchased was soooooo good. Sure beats the imitation stuff presented by our local chain grocery stores.

We were visiting Pella and was referred to the bakery by a friend - WOW! How amazing! The atmosphere was awesome, SO friendly, and the food is DELICIOUS! Blueberry Strudel got an A+ as well as the Coffee cake and many other items we purchased there. The gift shop is very nice too. Well definitely visit the bakery again when we go back! I have regrets about not trying the letters so that is on my list for next time

Why anyone would give this less than 5-Stars is delusional. This is the Gold Standard which I measure any bakery nationally, etc. (and less than a handful even come close). This bakery shouldnt even need my review--however, theyve definitely earned it. This is written for any traveler that just doesnt know how awesome it is.

Mmmm...raspberry truffles (a pastry, not the chocolate kind). And Dutch letters! And...and... just be prepared to buy more than you thought. Its all good. Very friendly, and a clean store. Also, they were still open and stocked at almost 3 pm, which was nice.

Everything I bought was delicious. My only complaint is that its hard to know what you want because everyone is standing in front of the display cases. So when ur next in line its hard to say what u want because u cant see anything.......

Staff was very friendly and the sweets were delicious. Luckily got there before the rush so we had a chance to browse the sweets and trinkets and decide without the push to get out of everyones way. Hope to go again before we leave town.

Two words: DUTCH LETTERS! I was only here once, as a child, and 20 years later, I still remember the letters. They were THAT good. The next time Im back in Iowa, I will definitely return.

The best bakery in south-central Iowa. Its a no-brainer to stock up on dutch letters (aka "letters" if youre a local) while youre there. Pro tip:. They accept online orders and ship!

If you only get one thing, get the almond cookies! But who in the right mind would only get one type of delectable sweets in a bakery dedicated to pleasing your tastebuds?

Whats not to love about this place!? Dozens of treats, cookies, pastries, donuts, and pies - when it comes to desserts this is my personal favorite place.

If theres a better bakery in Iowa, Ive missed it. They could charge an admission fee just to walk through the door. The smells are that heavenly.

Quite arguably the best bakery youll ever experience in your lifetime. Bismarks are the bomb. Dutch Letters are a "must have" on your bucket list.
