ABSOLUTELY LOVED OUR CUPCAKES AND CAKE!!!! Do NOT be fooled by the negative comments on this page. Some people are just cruel, mean and over the top - making their reviews very obvious that they are not truthful at all. I have ordered cupcakes for a baby reveal party for my daughter and a cake for my sons rehearsal dinner from Something Sweet by Maddie Lu and have been WAY more than satisfied!!! They were super moist, beyond flavorful and decorated amazingly! EVERYONE was raving about the cakes at both occasions!!! The minute we walked in the door at Something Sweet, the service was friendly and very welcoming! I agree that the bakery is large, airy and super clean. Maddie Lu is doing it right and planning for future growth -- and she is going to need the expansion room in no time at all. I am ordering another sea salt carmel birthday cake today for my youngest sons birthday and cant wait to share it with our family! This is without a question my FAVORITE cake bakery in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area!!! Maddie Lu, keep doing what you are doing because it is paying off to all your loyal and honest customers - and word will spread about your amazing business! The negative comments all sound very similar and is probably someone (most likely the same person) who for whatever reason wants to get even with you! Dont worry about them Maddie Lu -- people will read the truth with all the positive comments about you and your business and realize the same thing that I did while reading the reviews!!! Keep on baking!!!!

Honestly sad cupcakes. And very overpriced. While the prices are on par with the prices of other high end bakeries in the metropolitan area the product is not. They are using cheap ingredients and it shows. My guess is this shop was opened by someone trying to turn their hobby into a business and it not working out. The cakes taste like theyre from a mix at best. Theyre poorly risen and flavorless. Most cakes are frosted with fake whipped topping. Which they sell as whipped cream. But there is no cream to be found. Their garnishes while they might have been pretty if they were fresh have the look of having sat for far to long. My guess is the owners picked a very expensive location and are cutting cost on the ingredients as well as keeping product around long past its prime in order to make up for the rent they can ill afford. Their space is also far to big for them as youll notice when you walk in and the front two thirds of the store front is empty but for a couple tables. If this place wants to stick around theyre going to need to get some real talent in the kitchen and seriously rethink their marketing. Ill be very surprised to see this place around 6 months from now. Remember folks just because your baked goods are well received at your neighborhood potluck doesnt mean theyre something people will pay money for. The phrase Minnesota nice is no joke.

To the owner of Something Sweet in Coon Rapids, Mn..... Today I was headed to a shop next door to your bakery. I saw the delictible cupcakes in the display and thought Id take a chance. You see, I have a dairy allergy, specifically to casin, the protein chain in any dairy products. My life is filled with reading lables carefully and avoiding most food prepared oustide my home. This is no laughing matter as eating any dairy products makes me quite sick. You did laugh however. When I asked the nice young lady behind the counter if you make anything dairy free, she went to the open kitchen and asked the four women baking if anything was dairy free. I saw the women shaking their heads and saying, no. I heard one if the women sarcastically say, "Water!" The other three women laughed. The nice lady came back to me and said, "Im sorry but we dont make anything dairy free." I told her I heard the woman in back say water and I felt this was rude. The nice lady leaned in and whispered, "I know Im sorry". I was very embarrassed. This isnt a life choice, I have a food allergy. I get it if you cant accommodate all food allergies, but dont be rude and make fun of a person for it. What you did was wrong and makes it hard for people like me to be brave enough to try eating out knowing we have to ask about ingredients.

So we went to have a Birthday cake ordered for my daughters 16th Birthday. Had a cake testing and made the order. They asked how to spell her name. When we picked up the cake and got home. The name only had two letters on it of the name. You could not really see it in the box. So when called to get it worked out. They wanted us to go to the store and buy a frosting tube to correct it ourselves. They also offered a store credit. Which we dont live even close to this place so then she said well you could just wipe off the name and just let it say Happy Birthday. I did get them to do a refund but still none the less was not the best way to handle it. Then after I was driving back to the shop to get the refund the owner calls and says I heard your not happy. Really. Then when I am standing in the store for the second time the managers cell phone rings and says just one minute and walks away from me. Guessing it was the owner calling her but who knows. She took the order and she says they rewrite every order and must have gotten interrupted when rewriting it. On the order form she only wrote part of my daughters name. So not the bakers fault. Guess they need a new way to take orders. Need less to say we wont be going back.

I hope people disregard the 1 star review on here because this place is amazing! Im not sure if this Average Joe person knows the owner and doesnt like her, but his review is over the top rude and almost completely false. Half the things he said were lies, and it looks like he was just trying to make her business look bad (which is immature and uncalled for). Her cupcakes are priced lower than most other bakeries around, and the $5 cupcakes are jumbo cupcakes which are huge and to die for! I also had bought a cake for my daughters birthday, and every single person at the party commented on how great it was! Its very sad to see someone come on here and try to ruin someones reputation (a women who opened her shop at 20 years old) by posting a a review that is way over the top. I have been here once a week since it opened, and every time I have had good customer service. everything I have had has tasted good, and I sure havent seen hair everywhere like this Average Joe guy said! Seems to me like a liar trying to hurt her reputation.. (My little puppy and my daughters dog LOVED the dog treats) :)

My wife and I went to Something Sweet and very disappointed. As some other reviewers have said, the cupcakes were dry and uninspired. We have been to Disney World where she formerly worked and at least 1/3 of those cupcakes were rip offs of Disneys. We bought the cookies and cream cupcake and the caramel macaroon. The macaroon was extremely over baked and almost like a cracker. The inside was hollow, proof of a very over baked macaroon. The éclairs were very deformed and nothing like other bakeries weve been to. People stating this is one of the best bakeries in the twin cities must be friends. Because there are many top notch places like Salty Tart, Patricks, Patisserie 46, etc. This is just another home baker who opened a place with little experience that friends liked her stuff so she opened a place. We will say though the prices werent outrageous like some had said but the price to flavor do not match up. Look up Boardwalk Bakery Disney and see the similarities, just sad.
