I really enjoy Taste of China at this location and nearer downtown on N.Dubuque St. too.Helpful, positive staff. Not a fancy Asian restaurant but food has great taste and color.Just wish crab Rangoon was better, too small and little filling. Happy Family, Sesame Shrimp are great. They serve enough of a portion that a sedentary scholar would have two meals. Order more rice to go and great possibilities. Only wish I read character as the staff always is munching something good. I enjoy the spicy and the mild selections of seafood. Swiftly cooked, restaurant is frequently busy. Enjoy. This is more like a lower priced mostly Mandarin with plenty of food. Vegetables are local with standard Asian favorites. The food is tasty Midwestern American Asian good.

This place makes me angry. They ruined every other Chinese restaurants I would go to. We live 40 minutes away. How dare this place hurt the image of every Chinese restaurant out there. They have hands down the best Chinese food youre going to get and driving 40 minutes for a meal is insane but I do it anyway. Their food is so good that I cannot enjoy myself at any other Chinese restaurant but theirs. I wish I had more options than 1 in the entire state that had chinese food this good. Its ridiculous that Im forced to only eat here because no where else can compare. Their general tso chicken is insanely good.

This place is despicable. The short man that always works there is constantly pissed off and is very unfriendly. He always makes one feel pressured to order rather than being open or suggesting something to us. This place is also very unsanitary. The angry man which takes your orders and cooks your food does never washes his hands regardless of what he touches. I have seen him take dirty dishes and garbage to the back, take orders which includes handling money, and then goes straight to cooking your food. The food is pretty good, but the nasty customer service experience makes me cringe.

Food was pretty good, but service honestly was terrible. The girl working in the front was very silent and came off slightly rude. Also my grandma had gotten a small cup of super, super hot tea to go, unfortunely there were no lids and it spilled on me in 90 degree weather. Luckily it was me and not her! Definitely burned though, so lids should be provided!! No reason they cant be.

A long-time Iowa City resident, Taste of China is the only local chinese restaurant Ill go to. Im not sure why the previous reviewer said the crab rangoons were disgusting because thats my favorite part! Some places drown the rangoon in cream cheese and forget the CRAB part, but not this place. Fast service, easy to order over the phone, nice people overall.

Hands down the best Chinese food ive ever had ! Been going here for years. Always consistently great, good price to portion ratio. Language barriers have messed a order or two up in the past years but overlooked because of the great food. DO NOT ASSOCIATE THIS RESTAURANT WITH THE ONE IN WASHINGTON IA !, that one is absolutely horrible !

I have used it often for take out food for the last 15 years. Ordering is easy since they do not take all kinds of personal information. Orders are usually ready for pickup in 10 minutes or less. They have about 5 tables for dining in if you prefer. The service is always fast with generous portions. It is our favorite Chinese take out.

Their food isnt the same anymore. The sauce got gelatin type, like they dont try anymore. Unhygienic as well, everytime Id go, I see the cook go into the bathroom with his apron on. I wonder if he wipes it too. Gross. Id understand if he hung it in the kitchen before. Going in the bathroom. But yeah Im not going ever again.

Marginal, at best. The crab rangoon (one of my favorite dishes EVER), tasted odd. Not like crab at all. I decided to throw the rest away, in fear of food poisoning. The Kung Pao chicken was pretty tasteless - barely any heat at all and the chicken was rubbery/weird texture. Ill try my luck elsewhere next time.

I dont know what that person was talking about unsanitary. I went to Kirkwood about a decade ago, from back then until now I have never had 1 issue. Food is always great, they use actal pork in the rice, the best egg rolls in town, done really quickly, I wish they had delivery, that would be awesome

Best Chinese Ive had in my life. Affordable with generous portions and tastes like Chinese should, authentic. And who cares about the aesthetics of the place? Its not a traditional sitdown restaurant. Its a-mazing food, thats what matters. The crab rangoons are to die for.

The food is great and gets done fast. Generous portions for such low prices. Sure, the staff can be a little curt, but theyre never anything less than civil. More than willing to fix anything if they ever get an order wrong (happened once in well over 2 dozen orders).

One of our favorite Chinese restaurants in the Iowa City area. Staff is friendly and theres a good selection of vegetarian options. The building is a little small, with not a lot of table space, and is often crowded. My favorite menu item is the veggie dumplings.

The best place ever for Chinese food and it makes me angry that people say that it is a trash heap and speaking directly to the people who say it is bad here is what i have to say about that " you haters have a terrible taste in places."

Hole-in-the-wall Chinese done right. Excellent flavor, not too greasy or sugary, good portions and great price. At least three times as many menu items as chairs in the sit-down area, my favorite ratio.

Very fast service and good food. We had two dishes both of which were tasty. Interior eating area is perhaps a bit dilapidated but would recommend take out for anyone.

Ive always went here with my mom for our "big Chinese nights" where we get a bunch of dumplings, General chicken, Eggrolls, and low main - they take care of us for sure

Just average. Nothing special here. Prices are ok for portion size and quality. Pretty run down and dirty. Wont be returning for seconds.
