This place is hands down a restaurant first and foremost. However, two reasons we included it on the list...number 1, they brew their own beers, that makes them very important. Number 2, they do have a bar in the restaurant, and it does stay open until 2 AM most nights. I will not pretend this is a place that we would ever go drinking in a bar situation, however, based on the beers, and the atmosphere, everyone has to go here once. The food is pricey, but it is amazing. The service is pretty good, I have been here so many times it is hard to say its perfect, because every now and then you get a bad one. They let you sample their beers for free, and they have seasonal beers they brew on the premises. Pretty cool. You can also see the fermentation tanks from the dining area. If you do decide to make this a regular restaurant stop, keep a couple things in mind...although the parking lot may be packed, they are insanely good at seating people quick. It can look packed and still only have a 15 minute wait on a Friday night. Also, if you frequent this place often, sign up to be a mug club member, if you do it on a Monday I think, its only like $10 to join, its a lifetime membership, you get 10% off every meal, every time, and you get upgraded from a 20oz beer to a 25oz beer for free, and the beers are a dollar less than the regular price or somethign crazy like that. I mean how can you go wrong with that? I have never been disappointed with this place, and I recommend everyone give it a try, despite, the fact that it is not a *bar* in the traditional sense.

We visited for our first time last night. The atmosphere and food were very good, but the service was terrible! Our waiter never checked on on us during the meal, and never offered refills of our drinks. My husband asked the server when she brought our food for steak sauce, and she replied,"Ill see if I can find some." She never returned, so we are assuming she forgot or never found any. Towards the end of our meal the waiter came and said he could get our bill, and I looked at him funny, and he said ;"oh do you want dessert?" I said we would , but we didnt know what they had to offer. He seemed put out that he had to go get us a dessert menu. (Not sure why they just dont have the dessert menu and the steak sauces on the table), so we waited forever again, before he returned. Once we ordered, it was a long wait again for the dessert to be served. Not a good first experience! Dont think we will ever go back again.

Service was lousy. Food was terrible. After being seated waited well over 5 minutes to even be acknowledged. Business was steady but by no means busy. Then another 5+ minutes to receive drinks, which were just sodas. Once food dropped off-which was dry and cold by a runner, not even our server, was over 10 minutes later that server checked on us and we were done, I was only able to choke down 3-4 bites of the meatloaf and my parter a quarter of his sandwich. Server did not inquire as to why so little of the food was eaten and just asked "are you ready for your check"? Took close to another 10 minutes to get that. I had been then close to 1 1/2 years ago and experienced much the same service and food, but was willing to give it another try. Wont make this mistake a 3rd time. Only positive thing would be the person who greeted us when coming in and seating us.

Granite City is normally a safe bet for a good meal with consistent quality from location to location. That was not the case with the Cedar Rapids location today. The food was ok. The sticky rice was not good. The server was great and is the only reason this is not a one star review. The biggest problem with this location is that looks clean but it is not clean. The table where we sat was sticky and so was the table near the restrooms. My shoes stuck to the floor now matter where I walked. The bathroom needed cleaning as well. Its like the floor was mopped with dirty water and the tables were wiped down with the same cloth. Cant say I have any desire to go back any time soon.

Late night dinner with the family on a Monday evening. We were seated immediately, but didnt see our waiter for 15 minutes. No drinks or water or anything. The menu is great so we filled our time with talking about what to eat. The service never changed, the place was almost empty, but it took almost 90 minutes from start to finish. The food overall was very good. But one of my daughters Taco was luke warm to cold when it was served. It must have been sitting out waiting for all the other food. When we mentioned the waiter apologized and that was it. The burgers were average, the salads were large. Overall we had an OK time.

We showed up at Granite on a cold monday evening, and the place was packed with a 45 minute wait. We grabbed a few beers from the bar, and waited. We had our table ahead of schedule....I asked for the waiter to go ahead and get us going with his choice of appetizers....and it worked great. Was good food....good service....and wow...I this bill was low low low. For 8 people....I was amazed. We had beers....appetizers....ful meal....etc....and we spent less than $300.

Our food was cold. Our food took 45 minutes to arrive at the table. Our server was trying......but she just didnt know what she was doing. Our server told us why our food was taking so long, and then a bit later, a manager came to the table to smooth things over, and blatantly lied to us about our delayed food. This restaurant wasnt worth all of the hassle. We probably should have just gone to McDonalds. Same level of satisfaction, at a lower price.

Been here on five occasions...food good but very inconsistent...in fact after ordering same items, the last trip made both of us very ill and not pleased with quality of food served. Plus the beer they brew needs a lot of work...maybe new management will help as previous brew master was not good....Ive had homemade beer that was better in all aspects but mostly it had flavor that their beers do not. Will give them one more chance but not for awhile.

Used to be happy with our meals here but its been going downhill recently. Our latest visit it took close to an hour to get our food and when we finally got it two of the burgers were cold and one of them was overdone and dry. When they brought replacements for the two cold burgers one of them was, again, cold. The waitress was not sincerely sorry and nor was the "manager" that came to the table afterwords.
