Normally we eat at the one in Clive. Came to the one in Altoona since its close to our house and was insanely disappointed. The guy just threw our menus on the table and kept walking. So we sat down. The tables right next to the door are so crammed together. My 11 year old daughter didnt even have enough room to pull her chair out to sit down. We were asked what we wanted to drink... And we have been sitting here long enough to know what we want to order but we didnt have enough time before the waiter walked away again. So here we have been sitting for another 10 minutes waiting to order.... The table that came in after us got their order taken...and the guy that just walked in the door got his order taken...and the guy STILL hasnt been back to our table. I even asked my daughter right in front of him "should we just go since no one is coming to our table?" and the guys was literally 2 feet from me taking the to go order....so we left. Disappointing since the one in Clive has decent service. This one was absolute garbage. My kids were super hungry and we wasted a total of 20 minutes waiting to order After we got our drinks...and it took a while order waters! We ended up walking out. We wont be back to this location. Ever.

The place was packed when I got there and I had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, so I thought it was going to be good. Got the shrimp fajitas. Lets just start with the facts that they put the sour cream on top of the lettuce so I had to scrape it off. I wanted to ask for more sour cream but my server never stopped by my table to ask me how I was doing. And the food wasnt even that good - the shrimps were small and the whole plate was a little greasy it didnt come out sizzling like fajitas are supposed to, the rice had a funny flavor, the refried beans were just meh, and Im pretty sure I was supposed to have guacamole but there was no guacamole on my plate I am from out of town and have had way better Mexican food this. Altoona if this is what you call good Mexican you all need to get out more.

Love this place. Really good food. Huge portions (enough to have half and save the other half for lunch). Good staff. The only time you run into trouble is if you want to alter a dish...say get the fajitas vegetarian style with meat...meaning you get brocolli and other veggies. They say they cant do it. Then after explaining the last three times youve gotten it they have to go back and ask for permission from the cook..Then they come back and say it will be a $1 upcharge. Since learning I cant order food how Id like there and I started ordering straight off the menu its been fine. Its so difficult to order a lot of times is why I took away one star.

My experience at this restaurant was horrific I was was sexually harassed and touched by two of the waiters. They thought that they could get away with it because I look vulnerable. When one of the guys delivered my food to my table they touched my breasts with theyre arm as they were putting the food on the table as I have very big breasts. I felt violated!!! I complained to the owner but he just walked away from me and didnt say a word to me no apology or nothing, I was appalled to say the least!!! I mean what kind of a restaurant condones that kind of thing? The staff members should be fired asap!!!

Our service at this restaurant was awful. There was a short black hair in my lettuce and the waiter never came back after he brought out the food. We had to go to the counter to ask for our check. The waiter never refilled our drinks which were empty early the entire time. When we went to pay the cashier typed or card number into his phone to check us out? We never got a receipt and didnt realize until we got home. Overall our experience there was a complete disappointment. I will never eat there again.

The food tasted descent but it was nothing overly amazing. We got their right before Saturday rush and half way through the meal, we could tell that they wanted us to hurry so that they could get others seated. The three workers that helped us before the waiter gathered our drink orders didnt say a word to us or even acknowledge our thank-yous. Afterwords, I had a stomach ache and I dont think that it was the absolutely horrendous service that caused such...DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!

If I could give zero stars that would be generous. Dirty somewhat un-kept facility, was busy (in hindsight I have no clue why). Our order got totally screwed up and was missing a few items (only noticed after five 10 minutes home) vegetarian order ended up chicken,thus inedible. Chicken looked, felt and tasted like the bottom of one of Ghandis flip flops, again inedible. Hung up on when i called to complain. Will NEVER use again.

Great food. Fast service. Large portions. Quaint decor. Reasonably priced...... I bring my granddaughters for lunch - they love it. Only problem is the waiters flirt with my granddaughters behind my back. Refil water glasses needlessly. One of my granddaughters thinks the waiters bad behavior is funny, the rest do not. Servers at the Altoona Monterrey Mexican Restaurant need to change the way they act.

When we arrived, we were not properly greeted and just directed to a table. The menus were slammed on the table and the greeter walked away without saying a word. They overcharged on margaritas despite what their sign advertised. Did not give any water to drink. Overall, somewhat unfriendly staff. Food was okay, but there is better mexican food elsewhere.

Salsa and chips were good. Food was overcooked and tasted like reheated leftovers. Disappointing 4star rating to say the least. Waiters didnt really come around to refill drinks or chips and salsa except when they brought out food.

My family and I eat here about once a week. They have wonderful food, love the guacamole, and service is the best Ive seen anywhere. A great place to eat. Awesome free chips and salsa too!
