I cannot be happier to have Yolo around. My family has dined there too many times to count times so far. The staff is great the food is wonderful. We have been Wholly Frijoles fans for years and while they are a still fine choice - Yolo is a few blocks away and every bit as good if not better! Not at all a taco joint but instead we have wonderful authentic Mexican food in downtown Skokie. I was thrilled to see every table full the last time I was there. Family friendly - they even know my son by name. The place only has 10 or so tables so make sure you get there early or make a reservation. My wish for its success has come true at least on weekends. Another tip - BYOB. Good luck to Yolo and please give this place a shot!

Yolo is a small, cozy restaurant with excellent food. Its BYOB, so bring a couple bottles of wine - sangria would be great - relax, and enjoy your evening. Yolo serves Mexican cuisine that is more than worth any wait you might experience. Wine, anyone?!! If youre in a hurry, or if you want Mexican fast food - go to Taco Bell. If you want to experience Mexican food at its best, Yolo is for you. In a world of instant gratification, it is a welcome change to relax with your loved ones. And its a bonus to be served delicious, fresh food cooked to order. You must try Yolo!

UPDATE - Still awesome. Be sure on Fridays and Saturdays to get a reservation. Sometimes the best places are found by random chance. Coming back from a Bulls game and not being satisfied with a $10 pretzel, I found myself craving Mexican food. A quick check on Google Maps found Yolo. We had the tacos Marranos - pork marinated in an achiote sauce topped with pickled red onions and cheese. Heres the HINT - they dont serve alcohol but you can bring your own wine. No corking charge - just great food and a pleasant atmosphere.

Atmosphere is a big zero no imagination or personality at all! Service was slow and amateurish. Portions were small and did not look like the portions on the web site. The prices were way to high for what we got served. Now top that off with a customer, a loud customer pontificating, burping, and making sexual references without a care that others including women were in close proximity also going into anti Trump pro Hillary rant was just to much! Left and never coming back. Thanks for reading.

Yolo will redefine Mexican food for you. Seriously, its that good. Very intimate, with attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere. The food explodes with flavors and will leave you with a satisfied, but not over stuffed, feeling. Make sure to try their flavored waters as they provide a delicate, refreshing accompaniment to your meal. Stellar place and you are doing yourself a disservice if you dont pencil this one in on your must try list.

A surprising gem in Skokie. The tiny Mexican restaurant packs a lot into its space. While it may be hard to find a table on the weekend, it is worth it. Yolo has a combination of standard fare and unique entree items. Delicious tacos to start with led to a well portioned and delicious entree. The chile rellenos are very flavorful and not too heavy, thanks to the lack of breading (that is not missed.) The moles are very good here as well.

Excellent gourmet Mexican food in the downtown area of Skokie that just happens to be BYOB. The decor is interesting, the staff very friendly and the food definitely delicious. Make sure to try something from each category on the menu, or have a starter if you are not that hungry--since the portions are generous and have very tasty combinations of ingredients. Definitely make reservations so the kitchen knows you are coming. Enjoy.

The service and atmosphere were great, and fit the higher prices. We were really excited to come back with friends and family, until we ate the food. The food was enjoyable, but not amazing. They seem to be relying on the sauce for most of the flavor, which leaves everything feeling very one dimensional. You can find better for the price or cheaper depending on your mood. Also cash only which is a strange decision.

This is a quaint, auyhentic, byob restaurant. Every dish is fabulous and the service is phenomenal - even with a group of kids they were super patient with us. However, if you are looking for the typical American version of Mexican food which most local places are, this is not the place for you. This is a small, family-run restaurant serving authentic, gourmet cuisine. All 8 adult in our party highly recommend it!

Horrible service. We drove in from the city because we heard wonderful things. Our party sat at our table probably 10-15 minutes before our waiter even brought us menus and water! We finally were able to give our drink orders and that probably took another twenty minutes. Our server was sweet but very unattentive. The food was whatever .. nothing crazy. They need to step up their game a lot.

We reserved a table for 9 last night to celebrate my husbands birthday. Based on the reviews we read, I thought we would try this restaurant. From the moment we walked in, Miguel, the maitre d had an attitude and was extremely rude! We would not even try to give Yolo Mexican Eatery a second chance, it is not worth our time and money. Good luck to your business.

Food not so good. Service was so slow. The price for what we ordered was very high. Every side, e.g. rice, beans, etc., Was extra! If you have no other choice, bring cash. They do not accept credit cards.

Mole Negro was just awesome! The waitress was really friendly and you can have a conversation while eating because the music just serves as background music.

Excellent every time. Not a place for a large group, as it is a small place. Dinner for 4 is perfect, as is BYOB.
