They were so close to a five star review and they fumbled a bit on the dessert. Still my experience at Yusho was great enough that I would gladly return. We had about a five minute wait for our table to be ready but that is nothing for me to get super upset about. For dinner, I ended up starting with the steamed buns. I have very mixed feelings about the steamed buns because even though they were delicious, the price point makes you do a bit of a doubletake. The tofu steamed bun was great and was so tasty that even someone that was carnivorous enough to order four other meat dishes, enjoyed the bite of that little steamed bun. It was aggressively seasoned and slightly spicy and was the kind of food that makes you think, yeah I could do this vegetarian thing... That is until you taste the chicken. The chicken skin was nice and crisp and delightful. It has the texture of a potato chip and is probably one of the best values on the menu. With the slightly sweet yet sharp beer sauce made this quite the treat to get you ready for the meal. The scallops were something that I couldnt pass up but if I had to do one of those top chef over critical criticisms, it doesnt really belong on a skewer. Though that aside it was perfectly cooked and what more could you want in this triple threat dish. Bacon + Foie Gras + Scallop = Amazing. I think that maybe I have had pork belly too much lately, but this one was just ok. I think after the other two dishes, the bar was so high that this one was not as memorable even though it was quite tasty. Also heres an inside tip, if youre trying to decide between the chicken drummies and a half order of the twice fried chicken, go with the twice fried chicken. Not only is the portion size much larger, but the combination of the kanzuri sauce with the bit of matcha and lime is amazing. A note on Kanzuri: Naturally grown Kanzuri Chili peppers are harvested from August - November in Japans Niigata, prefecture. The fully ripe red peppers are layered with sea salt then stored till temperatures drop. Between January - March the peppers are laid on snow for 3 to 4 days per batch. The snow is believed to reduce the peppers heat and increase sweetness. The peppers are then washed with warm well water and mixed with yuzu juice and Koji (a fungi also used to make sake, miso, and soy sauce). Over the next three years the barrels of fermenting Kanzuri are moved to maintain a consistent temperature. Before Kanzuri paste is finished the barrels will spend their fourth winter buried in snow. A sauce that is that hard to create cant help but taste amazing, and I was tempted to pay $30 for just three ounces of this hard to find sauce after I left here, but the l talked myself into my senses. The ramen, I wasnt a huge fan of, but it had a moderate miso base and Im not a huge fan of miso so take that for what its worth. For dessert, we went with the funnel cake and it was pretty much half raw. We sent it back and they made up for it with a soft serve ice cream while they remade the funnel cake. Both desserts ended up being amazing in the end. They also recognized their mistake and were very nice and apologetic about it. (Soft serve was just a hair better than the remade funnel cake if youre wondering). It was a wonderful experience. So great that now that I think about Ill be a softy and toss them 5 stars.

If the food wasnt so good this would probably get a 3 due to the bizarre service. Everything started off great and the waiter was really helpful in navigating the menu and ordering sufficient amounts of food for me and my girlfriend. Id say 2 people is prime since they recommend you share everything. Some of the dishes like the steamed buns can be tricky to share and make sure everyone gets a bite. Food: Loved the catfish steamed buns, chicken wing skewer, and the fried chicken. Service: So again, started off great with the staff helping us with the menu and the waiting team really tentative to refilling our water. Then it seemed like a light switch went off - not sure if we said something or what, but things just completely shut off. Our first round of drinks was one of their on tap cocktails and then a beer/hot sake combo. I got the cocktail at a typical pace but it took at least 10 minutes to get the beer and hot sake. They said they needed to heat it up. Not sure if they were chopping wood, starting a fire, and heating it up in a pot, but it took pretty long. We had hot sake the night before and got it in a 3rd of the time. At this point, they should have brought over the beer at least. Regardless, the drinks came eventually. I then ordered a second cocktail and it took 15-20 minutes to get it. When I asked the waiter about it - probably 10 minutes into the wait - he said, "the bar is backed up." It was frustrating that I had to bring it up after 10 minutes and he wasnt proactive about it. But then after I asked, I still waited another 5-10 minutes and they didnt even say anything. It was also at this time that they stopped bringing us more water. It was just really weird - they were all kind of clueless and oddly unaware of what was going on. Kind of a bummer since the food was so good and it wasnt all that cheap.

If youre into ramen Sunday is the best day to go. Only on Sundays do you get a choice from 4 different delicious ramen bowls; every other day there is only one. The deal is $20 for one bowl of ramen, a choice of either a house made soda or cocktail and dessert. As I said you get to choose from 4 different types of ramen. There is something for everyone on the ramen menu! I opted not for the ramen with pig tail. Im an adventurous eater but I gotta draw the line somewhere. Then there is something for the less daring, like me, with pork belly porchetta which I highly recommend! The drink deal is a little bit of a rip off if you choose the soda. Its pretty obvious that alcohol costs more than soda. Dont get the soda. Its super delicious but it comes in a small glass and there are no refills. Its a better value to get the boozy drink. There are no dessert options. They brink you gingerbread soft serve ice cream with a house made oatmeal cookie crumble, persimmon jam and sprinkles. I could have eaten three more servings! I wasnt even aware that ramen was something served in restaurants. I thought ramen was only found in a styrofoam cup with powdered chicken brother and dehydrated veggies in a foil packet. Then I found myself eating ramen at midnight in NYC last month by a place Anthony Bourdain swears by. Holy cow, a whole new world opened up to me! This ramen was not as good but it was a very close second. The NYC ramen was loaded with noodles and this ramen was not as noodle abundant. We asked for a side. What we got was $3 added onto the bill and a small handful of noodles. I thought this was in poor taste so I knocked off a star. One more thing: the "house made pickles" app isnt pickles at all. Its PICKLED goodies like mushrooms, cauliflower, and some other veggies.
