My husband and I went here a couple times. The most recent visit we had was 2 weeks ago. It was a Sunday night and I ordered a Kampai Speical entrée and my husband ordered the Lobster and steak entrée. Everything was going well until 2-3 hours later. We both got back home and puked everything we had ate there. (Neither of us have food allergies or anything like that.) Both of us had food poisoning from God knows what at Kampai. We felt like death that night. I immediately threw away all our left overs and we stayed home from work for 3 days-- I had never felt this bad after eating and KNEW it was from either their cooking/sanitation I felt it was only right for me to call back to tell the manager about our experience, seeing that when we go here it costs no less than $150, and I really didnt want anyone else to go through what we did. I couldnt believe how I was being treated while talking to the Kampai manager about this problem. I didnt even get an apology from her or a get well soon. I received "This never happens at Kampai"... and being put on hold for 15 mins. No empathy, no "we hope to see you again and we are sorry that happened" NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. I am never one to complain about service (in fact, have never written on yelp/google) but I will never be going here again.

Went to restaurant with my colleagues on my way to the airport (on a Wednesday evening). I asked the hostess where I can keep my luggage and laptop bag and she instructed me to keep it behind the podium. After 45 min, my cab to the airport called me that they were waiting for me outside. And when I was walking out of the restaurant, I went to up the hostess to ask for my luggage and she said that she has not seen it. My luggage had been stolen! The restaurant told me that I had kept the luggage at my own risk and they had nothing to do with it. My suspicion is on restaurant employee itself as there were very patrons having dinner and even fewer who had walked out of the restaurant during that time. So no matter how the food is - this business establishment is not reliable or trustworthy.

Change your hostess. She doesnt have good customer service skills. I bought the Groupon thinking it would be a fun experience. I called in to put my name on the reservation list multiple times. She would tell me about how Id have to wait and exaggerated amount of time. She acted like I was a nuisance. Why the heck would you give attitude to someone who is trying to give you business? The person answering the phones should be nice and be positive not someone whos annoyed at the fact that I called.

Ive only ever been to the sushi bar. This place is one of the few floating sushi bars Im aware of in Chicagoland. Normally we eat from the boats and get a few sashimi plates from the chefs. The waitresses are lovely women, they recognize us and treat us very well, even though we only go there maybe 4 times a year. The strip mall where Kampai is located is an international mash up. Theres an Indian place, a couple baltic shops, a thai restaurant, etc.

I made a reservation at Kampai Japanese Steakhouse in Mount Prospect, IL and when I arrived, they said my name wasnt on the list and didnt believe me. They said I could wait a half hour and see if I could get in, but no guarantee. I have a 5 month old baby and they expected me to do that. I told them that I drove an hour to get there after making reservations, but they would not accommodate us. Very Rude!

Excellent Steakhouse where they cook your food right in front of you. If people dont know kampai, I tell then its an authentic & higher class version of Benihanas. I recommend getting a dinner special and make sure not to over order since the soup, salad, shrimp flambe, rice and veggies will all fill you up. The golden or spicy shrimp is by far my favorite dish and make sure to get the green tea ice cream!

The decor is simple, quiet and relaxing. The sushi floats around the sushi bar on cute little boats. The fish there is the freshest I have ever tasted in my life! Jung is the greatest sushi chef ever! He always recommends the best fish. The service is always stellar! Even the chefs ask if you are enjoying your meal. I go there once a week and will o there every week til the end of time!

I havent even ate yet and Im loving this place. No table available when I arrived....no problem; hit the bar. Two awesome drinks were served by an awesome bartender Jaime. Try a Mai Tai and a Kampai punch....delicious. I already know the foods going to be good because the people are either laughing or silent. Good time or eating time. # felling excited# f it#

I have been going to Kampai Japanese Steakhouse since they had the waitress dress in Gaisha clothing and there used to be a koi pond at the entrance of the restauraunt. That was in the 80s. I still love it and now that I have a family with three kids Kampai is their pick for their Birthday dinner every year! I have nothing but great experiences there.

I have boot been to the steakhouse but the sushi bar is awesome. They make all different kinds of sushi and put them on boats that float around in front of your plate. You just pick what you want and pay for the plate. Different colors have different prices. Sushi is fresh and you can always order custom . Great sushi place. You wont regret it.

Have been coming here for years and while there are other Japanese Steak Houses, this one is still my favorite. I think their Golden Shrimp is the best as well as the food in general and the quality has not gone down over the years. I also love the ginger dressing they put on the salad. The chefs put on a good show, kids especially love it.

Ordered 4 things off of the menu. ..all were no longer on the menu--the menu should be updated to reflect these changes. Service was terrible--the server didnt know anything about the menu items. The food items that were on the menu were not worth the price tag. I eat out every week, I will not dine here again.

Ive been going to Kampai for almost 20 years. Seen some changes, but the level of food quality has always been high. Their California roll with crab salad is outstanding. Their to-order rolls are excellent. And, if youre in a hurry, their sushi on moving boats is a million times better than a fast food joint.
