This is probably in my top 3 favorite Japanese restaurants in the country. Their sushi is very good, and extremely fresh. The key here is the cooked/kitchen food. The menus for the cooked foods include hand-drawn illustrations. Every dish is simply delightful. I would encourage you to try the Dashimaki Tamago with Unagi - one person we bought this for said it was so good, it was like he didnt want to swallow it! The place always has Japanese television going, and if youre not asian, youre probably going to be the only group in there that isnt. Highly recommended as one of the top places for Japanese cuisine in Chicagoland. Update 8/1/12 - A few years after my initial review, and its all still true. Sure I go other places, but this is the only sushi place I will call "home."

Unbelieveable high price for 6 pieces Salmon sashimi. I ordered a Salmon sashimi appetizer at Kurumaya but end up paying $22.00 for 6 pieces of salmon sashimi. The waitress did not even explain why is the price so high but just tell me they are doing business like that. Usually other places only charge $7.95 for the sashimi appetizer, even $10.95 I think its reasonable in some of the fancy places. But $22.00!!! $22.00 is a sky high price for 6 pieces of sashimi. I am not going back there no more.

I went there with my boyfriend last summer before we leave the U.S. We felt surprised to find so authentic Japanese food near Ohare airport. We ordered sushi combo, ramen and teriyaki chicken. They were all fresh and delicious. The waitress are all Japanese. Tho Some of them can not speak fluent English, the menu contains accurate hand-drawn sketches of every dishes, and that was pretty cute. I will definitely go there again if I have another chance.

Some of the ingredients werent as fresh as I wouldve liked, such as the shrimp and a piece of Tina. And with it not being cooked, you can definitely taste the difference. Came during lunch which was packed so service was slightly slower but they were all still nice

just mediocre. order comes in too late, never really considers the timing of the food ordered. i guess it was a day when the kitchen was short handed. the variety of the menu is ok. the waitress never apologizes for late arrical of the orders. really, mediocre.

Consistently good Japanese fare. You cant really go wrong with anything here, its been a frequent lunch break stop and Ive never had anything disappointing.

Ive eaten sushi in Japan and this place rivals the restaurants in Japan. Simply amazing! Try Yakitore (grilled meat on a stick) you will love it!!!

Excellent place to try out small tapas style dishes. The small plates arent cheap, so that can add up quick, but its really worth it.
