Easily the worst management Ive ever encountered. Went on a Saturday night with family to celebrate a birthday, and while the food was actually pretty good, the entire experience was unpleasant. To start, we ordered crabcakes and chips & guac, which never came. We repeatedly asked our server when our appetizers were coming, and also wanted to make sure they came well before our meal. Our waitress assured us several times this would be the case. After an hour and 5 minutes, our main entrees finally came, and we still hadnt received our appetizers. They then proceeded to bring out our appetizers 5 minutes later, at which point we sent it all back given the fact that we already had our food. In the process, all of our soft drinks were flat and tasted terrible. At this point we called over a manager, and it took 15 minutes for anyone to come, yet another irritating part of the night. After explaining the situation, the manager went on to ASK ME what I think he should do to make the night better, rather than making sure we were taken care of, COMPLETE JOKE. I told him the soft drinks and appetizers needed to be taken off, and the dessert we were going to order for my grandfathers birthday we wanted off too, all of which he said was fine. Later, when they brought our bill, we were still being charged for one of the soft drinks, and they didnt take the dessert off. The waitress came back with a new check which excluded the soft drink, but said they couldnt take off the dessert because the one we ordered wasnt the complimentary dessert they give people for birthdays (The restaurant only serves 3 desserts, ALL of which are $6). At this point, I called the manager again. After another 15 minutes without anyone coming, I demanded to speak to someone otherwise wed be leaving without paying (check was over $100). The owner came out and said they wouldnt take the dessert off because thats not the dessert they offer people for their birthday, even though I was assured earlier that it would be fine, and on top of that they were the exact same price. He also had the nerve to mention that its due to inventory concerns. I basically told the owner that if he doesnt take the dessert off we will never be back, and that didnt seem to bother him too much. All in all, the absolute dumbest management Ive ever encountered, and I will absolutely never go back. In addition, the restaurant hurts the environment by using plastic silverware and should be ashamed of themselves for how they run their business.

Many establishments have come and gone in this location over the years with differing menus and equally differing qualities of their fare. (I miss Sesis Seaside Cafe, which was the best of them all.) For an establishment that has the word "cafe" in it, however, this place sure serves a lousy cup of coffee. The menu is overpriced as might be expected for a "cafe" situated on the lakefront: Youre paying for the view and not necessarily for the quality of the food. I find that its much cheaper, not to mention more enjoyable, to sit down on one of the many benches facing the lake with a homemade sandwich and salad, and a travel mug filled with home-brewed coffee, which will doubtlessly be a better cupper than they could ever hope to serve.

They need to update their online menu! I was really disappointed when I got there, the ceviche (which is why I went) wasnt on the menu and everything costs 50% more (at least) than what was listed on their website! The server was nice though, and the view was pretty. I had the jerk chicken which was okay but mostly just chips, tiiiiny little strings of pineapple, and the little cubed chicken pieces were like the kind you get in prepackaged salads from the grocery store...not what I was expecting. Glad they had wine at least. :( Too pricey for just okay food, youre pretty much paying the Chicago Park District for the view. I probably wont be back.

Was walking in the neighborhood and saw the Waterfront Cafe and outdoor seating overlooking the lake. Went inside and the menu sounded good. The guacamole was not "homemade" unless you consider homemade to be adding a little chopped red onion to a mass-produced mix. The Capri Salad was presented as two slices of tomato with a few "shavings" of mozzarella on top. I can see why they have you pay inside first. Its really too bad because its relaxing outside and if the food was anything like it sounds on the menu, it would be a great place.

The location (that view) earns at least 3 stars alone. I mean, come on. So, thats out of the way. The food can be hit or miss depending how high your expectations are (dont put them too high!). Its also a bit pricey and options are pretty limited. So, that might lift your expectations a little too high before the food gets to your table. Service is above average most of the time. That all said, there is an atmosphere worth writing home to Mom about. I personally think its a must-go if youre in the area. Enjoy.

It has a perfect view, fairly friendly service, and is just a few steps away from my home. The fish and chips were decent. This place has been featured by Time Out Chicago, and its one of the very few places near the water front. The food is not the greatest and a bit overpriced, but the location makes up for it. Its almost impossible to find a good waterfront restaurant in Chicago to have a snack and a drink. The Waterfront Cafe is the best youre going to get for this.

Service was ok. Not good. The food was sort of a joke. Reminded me of the high school cafeteria, just took 40 minutes longer to get. The waiter poured the beers in a glass for everyone, but only the first four ounces. And it was all head. The waiter was only available once during the hour and 15 minutes we were eating and drinking there. That being said, the location is everything with this place.

I came here with my dog in May and was very pleased. The views sitting at the restaurant was incredible. It felt like I was on a tropical island having dinner. The Edgewatermelon drink and the tuna stuffed avacodos were very good. I liked the pineapple that was added to the dish, which added a tropical flair. The waiter even brought a dog dish and water for my dog.

Raomatic, fun and of course a great view. We like the evenings since this summer, after dinner my bf and I go to relax and people watch. Ah the breeze and music makes for memorable times. We like the service and menu, the staff are great and take care of their regulrs like youre guests in their home. Beutiful people and seating. Try it out.
