What an awesome little cafe! On the outside it looks like a chain coffee shop-bakery, but once you step inside the vibe changes. The atmosphere is very casual and neat and this place is perfect for a relaxed breakfast, lunch, or snack (including a small group). The service is attentive and fast and friendly and the menu is great. They have amazing tea and coffee selections and a good selection for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts (pasteries). Everything seems to be made in-house and fresh. I got a darjeeling tea with the turkey and avacado sandwich, and both were great. They really hit the spot. Overall a fantastic find in the neighborhood. The only downfall, a little pricey for what you get. My sandwich was 9 dollars, a little steep in my opinion. Still a great choice for something casual. Atmosphere: 8/10 Service: 9/10 Food: 8/10

Overrated and overpriced, inattentive service, at least what I got on Friday. I usually walk up and take a smoothie and a pastry to go. This time I decided to eat in. Long wait for food, waitress no where to be found, at least bus boy was there very promptly when I needed something ( like an extra fork, when my daughter dropped one on the floor). We paid ($$$) for our food. I would not rated that low if I wasnt raced and my stroller stepped on as I was heading to the exist. The waitress literally jumped over my stroller almost knocking the baby car seat as she was rushing to her table. Very rude. Will not go back even though I live two blocks away. Will not recommend to any of my friends. Rather go to Starbucks where they appreciate your business

Just bad all around. Ive made the mistake of going to Julius Meinl on multiple occasions and left frustrated and disappointed each time. First of all, their coffee is mediocre at best. It doesnt come close to comparing to Intelligentsia, Metropolis, Counter Culture, or any of the other premium coffee that can be found in the area. The food is nothing special. If youre going to get anything, go for the monkey bread. Its fantastic (and the only reason Im not giving them one star). Everything else is skippable, especially considering the ridiculous prices. And whatever you do, dont eat there unless youre a masochist who enjoys horrible service and waiting over 20 minutes for bad food.

Julius Meinl is a pretty nice coffee house. I never go to coffee houses, but since JM is close by, and Im relatively new in the area I thought what the hell. They have a pretty good menu of breakfast and brunch items, lots of authentic Austrian stuff iw as too afraid to try, but i landed on the Meinl baked eggs and a coffee. The coffee was average, but the eggs were great. Tomato/basil/goat cheese combo in the eggs was very good and they were cooked just right. I will definitely go back. They forgot my coffee the first time around.

I love this place! I know its a chain from Europe, but you have to give them some credit for being able to create that chill cafe feel in all their locations. I love their coffee and the Spatzle isnt something you can get most places. Theres usually a wait at this location - theres always foot traffic and it feels like just the right place to have lunch on a chilly fall day. I do typically get the Spatzle when Im here, just because it is so unique, but their other menu items are good too from what Ive tried of friends dishes.

This is like a little taste of Vienna...but without the 8 hour flight overseas! Delicious coffee and tea, traditional pastries, and lunch/light supper offerings, all served with great flair on silver platters. Super-popular brunch spot, so be prepared to wait. Its one of my favorite places to catch up with a good friend, or spend a low-key evening relaxing to some live music (which they tend to schedule more often during the winter months). I just wish they would bring back their fantastic green rooibos tea!

Confession: I went to the one in Vienna before I ever stepped inside this Southport standby. But being at the original didnt bar me from enjoying its American cousin. Excellent service, exquisite pastries, but more importantly, a perfectly-sized glass of water to accompany each course of strong, Turkish-inspired (after all, Austria has the Ottoman Empire to thank for its cafe culture) coffee. Pleasant ambiance, if a little overrun with harried patrons unable to sit and simply be still inside a cafe.

Most people probably think you cant have a small, locally owned coffee shop experience inside of a cafe chain, but at this Julius Meinl - you can! They always have a delightful offering of fancy pastries and classic staples in their grab n go section as well as tasty dine-in menu options. Each barista takes care to make each drink picture perfect and at just the right temperature. Im currently hooked on their Earl Grey Vanilla Lattes, but Im sure it will change back to the Iced Mocha this summer!

Why does this Viennese coffee shop have locations in Chicago and nowhere else in North America? I dont know and I dont care. You couldnt ask for a better ambassador for Viennese coffee culture, so its always a treat. The Southport location is the first one in Chicago, and they serve excellent coffee and some good eats as well. Every coffee fan should pay at least one visit here.

Ordered a cappuccino waited about 15 minutes get it and its 75 percent foam with no coffee..I ask for them to remake it and get a bunch of attitude by the guy that made it asking me have you ever had a cappuccino before? My answer was yes and they arent a cup full of foam so I told them to forget the remaking it and give me my money back Horrible snobby service

Their breakfast menu is pretty impressive. I liked their baked eggs and gourmet coffee. Service can be spotty and REALLY slow but the food is delicious. I also love the little cookie they give you at the end of the meal to go with your coffee! Its a great place for a weekend brunch or just a day you want to take to yourself drinking coffee and reading a book.

This place has had better service in the past. Now, weve been misinformed about the menu, our small table was loaded, and three different people that attended the table seemed stunned we would ask for anything to be cleared. Perhaps they are too busy and the staff lacks training. Overall, this place is losing its charm.

This place is just the cutest. If I lived nearby, it would be a sure winner for my go-to coffee/work spot. It was large, lots of seating, and had delicious Austrian coffee drinks! I had to have the menu explained to me, but they didnt mind. I didnt have any food so I cant speak to that, but the Melange was great.

Seems like this plae opened up yesterday, but its been here for nearly a decade. Thats what happens when you hit a bulls eye. Outside of going to a cafe in Europe, this is the finest coffee experience to be had in Chicago. Try to hit on the weekday to avoid the crowds.

Love the atmosphere here. Settle down into a cozy chair and stay for hours. the light jazz is not intrusive and the food is pretty good and healthy. The robust list of coffee and teas will satisfy any need. As a coffee shop lover this one defiantly ranks high on my list.
