I love Mexican food. I have been to this restaurant before and thought it was OK. I wanted to go with my family and apparently Sunday afternoon is the worst time to go. I ordered three taco dinner which was supposed to be carne Asada. I ordered a plain taco for our son and my husband ordered a burrito. My husband said the burrito was fine but lacked flavor. They initially forgot about my sons order and had to run to make another taco which was taken care of pretty quickly. My food looked okay but it didnt have any of the toppings I wanted on it because the waiter walked away when I was midway through my order. I asked to have them on the side and they ended up giving me a large plate and charging $5. The horchata I ordered was in a giant goblet that was plastic and had black mold in between the pieces that were attached at the rim. My tortillas were cold and Asada wasnt really Asada, it seemed almost boiled. The chips and salsa were great! The bathroom was tiny and the wate basket was overflowing with trash. The waiters seemed jovial and friendly but Im never going back there. We left with our food that I barely ate and will be passing on to my husband for his lunch.

I went to Manjares on a strong recommendation. Ambiance inside was nice - not too loud or crowded on a Friday evening; mostly families. Chips and salsa were delicious. Menu you seemed more legitimate - no chimichangas (I have nothing against them) or gorditas. For vegetarian options it is very limited - the waiter described a vegetarian dish to me - a salad. If you are a pescetarian, youll be fine as there are a number of shrimp and fish entrees. The horchata was top notch though I wouldve loved some cinnamon for the visual. I ordered breaded shrimp which were very tasty, but were just what youd find in any other sort of restaurant. My dining partner got steak fajitas and they were tasty. If I go back Ill try something from the breakfast menu (you can order all day) as I think that is what they are really known for. p.s. Plenty of parking if you are a car owner.

Extremely bad service the lady who later I found out to be the manager was rude taking our order! It seemed she was having a bad day she was rolling eyes up when I asked her a couple of questions and sighed when I was giving her the order displaying an attitude as if she didnt want to be there! She forgot one of the meals I ordered to go and when I called back to let them know I asked to speak with the manager and she informed me she was the manager. This person was extremely rude and interrupted me continuously as well as called me dumb! I was not requesting anything for free as she suggested I only wanted to let them know my order had been incomplete and for them to pay attention for future take out orders but I was very dissapointed with the service the food was ok. I will not be recommending this restaurant in the future!

I would like to start by saying the place does have great service. The waiter took care of me and my family right away. The place is clean and family friendly. The reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because of the food. I ordered a basic plate . Steak taco dinner. The meat was over cooked. They add tomato and lettuce to the taco. Which I wasnt aware. I dont understand how you can mess up something so simple. The beans had no flavor. The rice was probably the best thing and thats me being generous. Ill end my rant here.

Authentic mexican cuisine in an authentic mexican restaurant experience. The prices are average for Chicago but the portions are much larger then average. I recommend for an appetizer the Queso Fundido con Chorizo. Melted cheese fondue with chorizo server with fresh hot flour tortillas. $10 as of this writing. The Guacamole is also good but not a standout. For a main course I like the Filete Mojo de Ajo ($12) and for meat eater the Fajitas are a huge outlay with tons of peppers and onions.

I ordered a burrito (asada) but it looks like they mixed the grease from chorizo and was very disappointed by the quality of the food, the asada was very fried also crispy w/chorizo grease!! not sure if Ill go there again. Also noticed the to go menu is outdated, the menu inside the restaurant is $2.5 more?? Why dont they update there go to menu to match prices!?? This is wrong! unless you want to be deceived, look out peeps

The food is very good and authentic, plus they give you free chips and salsa. I really like the parrilladas, salpicon de huevo con salsa verde, manjares combination, tortas, tacos and fresh hand made tortillas. I can honestly say that I never had a bad meal at this place and is moderately priced. They also have a big free parking lot for your convenience.

Theres something about this place that takes me back in time. Perhaps its their handmade tortillas or warm salsa? Its like having home cook meals. The food is excellent. Great prices. Kind and attentive service. Variety of drinks. It lacks a bar. Maybe one day youll consider it. Especially on weekends, the wait time can be long. Its worth the wait.

If you love traditional Mexican food, then go! I go every weekend for breakfast, the dishes are nicely priced, food is delish, and they have home made tortillas to die for mmmmm. I get the Huevos al albañil for breakfast and they have a new lunch Chuleta de Camaron that is amazing! Highly recommend!

The food was excellent! Most entrees come in large portions. There atmosphere is good but it can be a bit tight depending on the amount of people. Also the background music can loud at times. Overall, its a good dining experience.

Great service, love all their food, great Margaritas. I have tried 7 of their dishes, all of them are delicious. Their home made tortillas are so authentic Mexican. Just like my Grandma used to make.

Great Mexican food. $$$ prices. The wait staff is friendly and bilingual. The portions are reasonably sized and the food is fresh and flavorful. There are a variety of options but not overwhelming.

The chorizo con huevo breakfast is the best ive had anywhere in the US. Fast and friendly service is the norm. And the coffee with a hint of cinnamon is also wondetful.
