Its not so much that I didnt like this restaurant. It was the server we had. I took a friend of mine to lunch for his birthday. Unfortunately I am on a restricted diet right now with exact weights, measurements and ingredients which makes it impossible to eat out so I brought my lunch. I informed the server of this, and the server said "Ill inform management" and my friend ordered his lunch. There were no words along the lines of "thats ok" and got a negative vibe. With this kind of reception I thought to myself "How can I make her more cool with this?" So I ordered a coffee. When my friend got his lunch, I ate mine discreetly out of the 2 baggies I had it in. I used a fork and napkin in the place setting that was already set on the table when we got there. I had to cut things inside the plastic baggie to make it bite size. During this time she came by a few times to see if we needed drink refills, saw that I was eating out of baggies and did not offer a plate. When our time there was about to end I asked her to give me the check. I think here is when the light maybe went on a little when she realized that I was the payer (and tipper). I took the 19.00 bill, figured out what 20% would be and then doubled it leaving 8.00 as a tip when it was not deserved by her. I had planned on leaving a tip based on 2 lunches but she didnt know that and seemingly assumed she would only be getting a tip on one lunch based on her lack of better service to me. I would have greatly appreciated a little empathy and the offer of a simple plate. I plan on going to lunch with this friend again and would go here again (When I can eat normal) because the food looked good and he likes the place but I would hope to not get this server again. It was a bit short sighted of her to not be gracious and possibly have at least one customer not come back. I dont think its asking too much to offer a plate when someone is on a restricted diet. How much effort would that have really cost her but it would have gone a long way. I would think a situation like this probably doesnt come up often but I would hope the management would coach their servers on how to handle it better if it does.

I usually go to a restaurant by checking it.out first for ratings, so 3.5 was kind of mediocre, i wish i listened to my instinct. We ordered the safe choices: spicy buffalo wings and the meat eaters Deep dish pizza. May i say the buffalo wings had no taste, it was like they have been sitting in that marinate for ages, and what spice? Pathetic. Second, the pizza had probably just sausage on them, no other meat, just alot.of cheese. The pizza sauce was just a sorry excuse for a sauce, and the crust was pale!!!! Like seriously doughy and pale. Its like they looked at it and said good enough let. serve it. First time in a long time i had to blunt the gross taste of what we ordered with lots of ketchup, cayenne pepper, and hot sauce. And one final.thought, thank.you so much for the horrible 2 days that followed with stomach cramps and regular visits.to the bathroom. I do not recommend this place, dont spend your money.

I was really in the mood for some artichokes, so we decided to check this place out as it was right around the corner and artichokes were on the menu. As it turns out, they dont do artichokes anymore and just havent changed the menu. (They also were "out" of bleu cheese olives for martinis... but they had bleu cheese and olives, so Im guessing the bartender got a little lazy?) We ended up ordering a chicken and spinach pizza instead and it was terrible. The spinach tasted like it was from a can... mushy and creamy, and the chicken tasted like the kind of stuff youd buy in a frozen prepared food bag. Our server, Ramona, was very friendly and attentive. But for how bad the food was, Im surprised the place was packed. What kind of award did they win for their pizza anyway? Geesh.

Walked into this place and walked to the bar expecting to see what kind of deals they have on beer. The bartender walked up to me asking what I wanted. I asked her what beer deals there are, but she asked me if I can repeat what I said multiple times because she didnt understand what I said. After repeating the same question multiple times, she told me that there was a bud light deal. I asked if there were any other deals, but she told me to hold on and went to fulfill an order for another customer. I felt that she was being rude to me so I walked out. Another customer told me as I was walking out that what she did was not right. I talked to the manager on a different day and he said that he wanted to fix it and was apologetic.

Visited this pub while in Chicago and wanted to kill some time so it happened to be right at the location we were at so we decided to stop in and we checked out some reviews and thought, lets give it a try. Wait staff is okay, nothing to cheer about but sufficient at their craft. Beer selection is okay and clientele is nothing that will have you wanting to comeback. This place may be riding their reputation of years past. Dont get me wrong, its not a bad place to drop in and relax and grab a beer but I cant see making this place a regular stop either. There are more interesting pubs around for that. the area is set up in a decent configuration and there are sit down tables as you head to the rear of the establishment.

Divey and old-school. I think of this place as the companion place to Millers Pub because theyre both kind of of the same era, and unlike most places in the Loop. The food is good here, though, better than Millers. I have yet to have the deep dish but Roger Ebert says its the best in the city, so its on my list. Ive had the thin crust, burgers, and chicken sandwiches (oh, and the waffle fries - get the waffle fries!). Its all good - nothing gourmet, but definitely satisfying and tasty. Drinks are cheapish (for the Loop) and the place is big with multiple rooms, so its a fantastic place to go get happy hour drinks and actually be able to sit down at a table without a hassle (if youre eating.) Check it out.

9 times out of 10, this place is awesome (thus 4.5/5 stars). The pizza, ribs, steak sandwich, salads are the best you can get in downtown Chicago for the money. Be advised however, that sometimes they mess up. Last week I had the Greek lamb chops and it was basically 90% fat. Also, I had a summer salad that was basically all sugar (sweetened cranberries, sugary dressing). And sometimes the pizzas are inconsistent. Ive had pizzas which were either too crispy, to soggy (ask for the perforated tray!!!), or with too little tomato sauce. Barring those peripheral experiences, I can honestly say that Exchequer is the best pub in the Loop.
