More of a 2.5 than a 3 but to numerically value something means there is something quantifiable. Maybe my gut feelings, my gut, and my taste buds can be the measure but it really is only subjective to me. Ok enough science talk (to put it in a self flattering and somewhat ignorant way), Elephant and Castle. It is your run of the mill pub that has some quasi European/Irish charm, or at least it likes to present itself that way. The service is fine and dandy, the prices are as you would expect for downtown, the food and drink are...meh. I had a few pub bites but nothing truly appealed, even the fries tasted like a bag of orida but oh well. So why does this warrant 3? Well where else you can you pay 8 dollars to fill your belly and 4-5$ for a pint. I am not not saying quantity over quality, oh wait yes I am. If you go in, dont expect world class cuisine, expect grease, booze, eurocentric food, and more booze. If you cant get out of the loop, not a bad place but if you can, keep looking. The good: reasonable prices for downtown. Cheerful bartenders. The not so good: bland food that is a bit too expensive for what it is.

A bit too posh and fancy inside to pass for a proper English pub. Needs wall-to-wall carpeting, open fireplace and far fewer tellies on the walls. Food menu is actually really good with stalwart pub grub items like shepherds pie, bangers and mash and two pub curries complete with rice and naans. Has three types of poutine on the menu as well, which is a refreshing change from most bars in Chicago. The butter chicken variety is especially good and is essentially a chicken curry with chips (plus cheese curds to make it a poutine). Bar staff were a bit stumped when asked to do a Diesel and absence of blackcurrant cordial resulted instead in something involving crème de cassis that tasted surprisingly like a Belgian cherry lambic. Otherwise the selection of draught beers is quite good and includes Bombardier and ESB. Quite pleased all around.

So spent over 65 dollars at this place. We are staying at the hotel that is connected with this restaurant. My friend and I have a 2 year old and 1 year old. We ordered chicken fingers along with a ton of other food to eat in our hotel room. They forgot the childrens chicken tenders. This is after repeating my order to the waiter, he then repeated it back to me. I would not forget my childrens food! After going down to the restaurant 3 times, they tell me that I never ordered it and the waiter said he never heard me say it. They didnt even offer to pay for the chicken tenders (remember this is for two little children). They proceeded to basically call me a liar- it wasnt worth the fight. I would give this no stars if it was possible.

E&C! Use your Northwestern Memorial ID badge to get a discount on foods! My fiance and I went there not too long ago and we ordered the fish and chips and a couple of apps and had way too much food. Try also going in the morning. Youll run into a lot of night staff from the hospital getting an after work drink. It is one of the few places that opens early and serves liquor, especially on Sunday. They also have a great deal of whiskey and scotches there. Really nice people who work there. Oh and a lot of tourists go there so that makes it fun too! Show owner comment »

Super Team!!

Im going to have to go with the mass on this one and rate this place 3 stars. Came here on a weekday afternoon while waiting to see the Conan taping around the block. It was packed as other fellow Conan members were waiting it out too. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap. It was alright, a little small though. It came with a soup. French onion is french onion. It didnt blow me away but it was alright too. The chicken tenders were pretty tender though. Not too friend in batter, so it depends if you like that or not.

Co-worker took me here for lunch on a weekday. There is a lot of variety in the lunch menu, and they seemed to have a lot of options if you wanted a heartier British meal. For the price, the food wasnt stellar though. I had the chicken pot pie (puff pastry was fluffy and tasty, pies cream sauce was average, side salad was too bitter with the dressing), and my co-worker had the meatloaf with potatoes and veggies. I might have had a better experience if we went here for drinks or appetizers.

Quick seating, great and friendly staff. We came in on a Wednesday afternoon (445 pm) and ordered a few ginger beers, a long Island, and an order of bacon poutine and the fish Tacos. Everything was full of flavor. The price was a little on the high side, but not crazy. The staff didnt hesitate to make suggestions for food or drink options. They also came by frequent enough to check on us properly without being all up in Our faces! Would definitely recommend.

Ordered the nachos, which I didnt really care for. Cheese wasnt really melted in places, and was already hard and cold in others, creating a shell covering most of the chips underneath, which were completely devoid of flavor. There was a side of sour cream and salsa and they did bring me separate containers to pack them individually. Maybe Ill come back again and order something different one day.

Came here for lunch with a coworker, there was nothing too spectacular about this place. We were both sweating though, it was warmer inside the restaurant than it was outside. The food was decent, nothing special, but the service was great. I got the jalapeno mac and cheese and the soup of the day, which was the tomato basil soup. Good sized portions, and got to save some mac and cheese for later!

One of the better and cheaper casual dining restaurants in the loop. Its not haute cuisine, but there are a variety of British and American themed comfort foods available with a little something for everybody. Good appetizers, soup and salad variety in addition to main courses, all good food at good value. A great stop when youre travel-weary and need a warm meal late in the evening.

The atmosphere at this resturant was very old english pub style. We stopped in for lunch and both had burgers with sweet potato fries. The burger was absolutely delicious, but the sweet potato fries were the best part. They came with a chipoltle mayo that was fantastic! It was also appropriately priced for a burger joint on the mag mile. Service was also good. I highly recommend.

While having a few drinks with my buddy the waitress tries to pull a fast one and charges us for 15 beers consumed. I wish I was capable of consuming my share of that. When challenged the manager states youve been here 4 hours, its only reasonable. Unbelievable. It took much arguing to have this reasonably corrected. Still not happy with the outcome, but paid and left.

For “a touch of jolly old England” in Chicago, budget-watchers “grab a drink and a bite” at this “dependable” pub chain offering “lots of good beers on tap” alongside fish ’n’ chips, shepherd’s pie and other “genuine tastes of the mother country”; the less enthused take a “pass”, citing “noisy” conditions, “inconsistent” service and fare that they find just “so-so.
