Café Jumping Bean is a small business whose owners have created a cafe that honors Pilsens rich history while also celebrating the barrios incoming evolution of hipsters and young, urban professionals. The menu at Café Jumping Bean was thoughtfully designed to appeal to the polar opposite, yet intertwined cultures, tastes and lifestyles of the locals. Call it what you want...café con leche with a concha or cappuccino with a croissant...they have it. To each his (or her) own! The prices at Café Jumping Bean are affordable. I was excited to see that they were offering goods of comparable quality to that of Starbucks, at a fraction of the prices charged by many corporate coffee house chains. On this particular visit, my clients, Pastor Nelson & Principal Irma of NewLife Christian School (NLCS), and I made this our pitstop for coffee & dessert after lunch at a nearby location. As we left, I couldnt help but notice how the time had flown as we enjoyed the ambient life in the room that led to a productive meeting & time of fellowship. In the end, "the Bean" is a quaint and charming, street corner cove that most of us, including budget-minded students, can afford to visit a bit more regularly than the next place. The complimentary WiFi, eclectic energy of the atmosphere and accessibility to binge portions of caffeine and sweets lends itself to endless reading, creative writing and thought-provoking conversation. Consider Café Jumping Bean next time you too need some time away to think outside of the box. The character of and personality inside this small Pilsen cafe is just a bonus to what youre ordering off their menu. After doing a little people watching and admiring the local art hanging from their walls, be prepared to feast on a bevy of delicious food/drink options. Their cappuccino is always very good but when you need a drink with a sweeter flavor you wont go wrong with their Mocha Almond Delight and White Satin Mocha (I prefer the latter) -- The iced version of the WSM is also tasty. The licuados (Latin smoothies) all are yum but I suggest asking for a strawberry & banana mix. Sandwiches are American-style deli made fresh, but if you want to try something a little different order their mollete. Its melted cheese on top of black beans spread on french bread with a side of pico de gallo. It can get a bit crowded (esp. during the lunch rush) but the food/drinks are always worth the wait.

A neighborhood favorite of many of my friends. However, my sisters and I realized that they did not wear gloves when handling food but do so when cleaning. They should be worn in both instances. That is disgusting! I dont care how clean they think their hands are. Also the milk frother was not being cleaned as it was used from one drink to another! Im not a coffee person but I KNOW that HAS to be cleaned EVERY-SINGLE-TIME it is used! Otherwise the milk sticks and goes bad and that bacteria is transferred to other drinks made with that same frother! Beyond disgusting! Come on Jumping Bean! I get you are very busy but does that mean youll sacrifice health for a couple of bucks!? I took my sandwich and threw it in the garbage! No way am I coming back! Make sure that if you do go here demand that they handle your food with the outermost cleanliness. Watch them closely. Or risk getting sick.

This is a great spot to go catch up with a good friend on the weekend, or catch up with work assignments on a late night. They are open till 10 on weeknights, and have WiFi. But most importantly, they have Mexican hot chocolate (chocolate mexicano)- and its delicious. Its also reasonably priced: $2 for small, $2.50 medium, $3.00 large. And the people who work there are generally very nice. The atmosphere is eclectic, rustic, understated, and perfect for a coffee shop. Its not usually over-packed, with the exception of some weekend days, it can get crowded, because its small, but I usually dont have trouble finding a place to sit.

I have been going there since I was a kid. My cousin brought me their for the first time. Since then I am a regular. I take my family, friends, visitors. Its had a wide variety of food. I recommend the chicken salad sandwich you can never go wrong with that. When it comes to iced coffee id say try the ICED white satin mocha. Also, its its the the coffee place with a great vibe and people are friendly. Lastly, you get a good deal for your dollar its not expensive.

Been there many times however the last time (today) I got violent diarrhea. All I had was coffee and a almond roll. Never made it to the almond roll....drank some of the coffee....and 20 minutes later BOOM!!!....Im cramping and sitting on the bottomless throne as I write. Im going to the Bean tomorrow to speak with someone about this!!!! What could have caused this reaction?

I recently moved to Pilsen and a friend of mine told me about this place. I must say that not only is the food delicious, but the prices are just right. The employees are always very friendly and courteous. I can come read or have a nice brunch with friends. The only downfall is that it often gets crowded in the evenings. A definite must if youre in Pilsen.

Cozy place for a drink or two. Tables are funny since they resemble the country side of Mexico (funny how whats consider "Naco" in México is trendy/cool here in Chicago). Chocolate is sweet. Cool art gallery. Just please fix the main door since it doesnt close and the cold air draft gets in or install a second door ;D

Wonderful place for good conversation and great coffee. The food and customer service is good too. My wife loves the hot chocolate and loves taken her girlfriends here for coffee and sandwiches. The last time I was there I believe I had the salad sandwich which was wonderful. Nice down to earth cafe, worth the visit.

What a jewel of a cafe! Tried the black bean burger and was not disappointed. This cafe is warm and cozy and the food was fantastic. This intimate space is the perfect place to enjoy a meal with someone you adore. A big thanks to my friend who introduced me to Cafe Jumping Bean. Cant wait to make my way back!

Neighborhood stalwart, still going strong. Great coffee and a good selection of bites. Progressive activists and artists mingle with hard-working Pilsen residents in a warm, welcoming space with great positive vibes. Friendly, attentive service even when things are busy, which is often.

Disappointing. Ive been here plenty of times and each time I order the dame drink with NO WHIP and each time they give it to me with whip. This last time the grumpy barrista did it again and when I reminded her she simply scooped the whip cream off and added milk. Disgusting.
