Today for first time my 9 yr old daughter n me tried honey jam. Server was ok. Food was ok nothing out of this world . 45 min to get our food. We asked the server to be switched from table bc it was really cold under an ac vent...she did it very kindly then the lady manager or whatever approach n start telling the server in from of all customers that next time she have to ask her permission to do that...bc she has customers waiting for a half an hour. ...then she turn around and tells ME the same...i waited un til she got back to the front desk n told her that i didnt want the server to get in trouble for that..that we waited long enough for our food. ..HELLO ! WE ARE CUSTOMERS TOO!!! im latin and i wonder if that was a racist thing..otherwise that was really rude....no manners at all...they need to change the manager...people go there bc of food ...no because the friendly service. ...in that case. .food n services are waaay much better in Sophias pancake house. ...same breakfast menu.... Very bad experience. ..the server did her job and was very ashamed of that. .first time here.and last time too...that made not worth the waiting time for the food.

Would not recommend this place to anyone. Go down the street to Family Square. Better food, faster service. On my recent visit it started out bad and I should have known it was going to go downhill from there. Finally got a waitress about 10-15 minutes after we were seated. When the water for my tea arroved it was not even hot. Then, my breakfast was something simple, a waffle and bacon, and was served to me lukewarm. The butter wouldnt even melt. Now, I hate that I have to be the bad guy and say, after being asked, how was everything? You served me cold food....do you think I am going to say everything was fine when you know you served me cold food? Then the manager has to get involved....I didnt ask for the manager, she just showed up wanting to know how was everything. Obviously you know what happened! You are going to make me say it again!! If you want to give me a credit, give me a credit, dont ask me if I want one!!! Again, you make me feel like the bad guy because I am expecting hot food and hot water!!!! The only way I know of to address this situation is to not go back to your restaurant and post about my experience.

Terrible customer service. Stood at entrance waiting to be seated for close to 5 minutes, with absolutely no acknowledgment from staff with a greeting or that someone would be with us shortly. I had to ask a busboy, if there was anyone here to seat me & party. Cashier at front register looks at me as if I had 2 heads of something for asking to be seated.? I would have left, if not for my friend, who had driven from Lake Villa to have breakfast with us. Another friend had recommended this restaurant to us, because she lives in the area. It wasnt busy but appeared to be short on staff. Waitress had a gruff & mechanical personality, long wait for lukewarm food & terrible coffee. Some plates were not complete to order & Waitress was called over & we were told, oh, "still waiting for pancakes." Wow, why did we have to ask? A good waitress who have informed us, as other items were placed on the table. Our only enjoyment was seeing each other & leaving after chatting & reluctantly leaving a tip. Needless to say, there wont be a return visit.

Just ok. 3 1/2 really. There were some really good things though, I may have chosen wrong. We were here visiting from California and this place came highly recommended. When we got seated (+1) and looked at the menu we got really excited. Our waitress was very accommodating and friendly and checked on us the right amount of times. (+1). My husband ordered the Bloody Mary, which he said was excellent and really one of the best (+1). Now here is where everything went south. Our food was mediocre at best. I ordered Grilled salmon on a bed of spinach and eggs. The salmon was supposed to be grilled - it was not and the bed of spinach it rested on was greasy from the salmon. My husbands meal was ok. The ham steak (wish I could give 1/2 star) he ordered was thick and smoky/salty just like he likes it. Grits were lumpy and unseasoned though. All said, if I came back to Boilingbrook and wanted some specialty pancakes, Id definitely hit this place up again.

The first time we went to Honey-Jam everything was amazing. We were so excited about the good, fresh food that we decided to come back the next day. Our second trip, however, proved to not be nearly as enjoyable. Wed been seated near the kitchen the day before where Id witnessed the kitchen staff slicing fruit so I order the side of fresh fruit thinking that probably it would be very fresh and yummy. It had been sitting in the fridge all day, no doubt in my mind. It was mushy, and some of it was bad ($4 for a tiny bowl). When our food arrived some of it was cold. It would appear that my pancakes had taken longer and the rest of our food had been sitting around for a bit. The waitress was very gracious about returning the cold dishes to the kitchen and my pancakes were good, but all in all it was very disappointing. We thought wed found our breakfast place, but I dont know if well be back.

I used to go to Honey Jam cafe almost every Sunday, one of my favorite breakfast places. One time when I went for breakfast and I ordered the blueberry pancakes and a side of hashbrowns. After I finished eating I moved my plate to clear my spot and there was a live maggot right by my spot I was eating.. not sure if it came out of my food or not. I told the supervisor that was working and they said the manager wasnt in, but she took down my name and number and will contact me immediately when he gets in the next day. They never contacted me about the situation. That is a HUGE health issue and I will never eat there again for that incident and poor lack of customer service, and how they never did anything to even have a health inspect.

Ordered for pickup a BLT and a Large orange juice when I came to pick up the order they gave me a 5oz cup with orange juice when requested a large the lady said sorry we only have a one size, so why does your menu say Large and Small size if you only serve a one size ? The orange juice cup they gave me was so small it was like a kids meal cup, I thought it was a joke. Hope they change their menu then instead of putting false "advertisement " FYI ppl dont Order a large they only have a mini size tequila cup orange juice! On the menu it say the carry two sizes but they dont its only a one size kids meal cup.

This place was great when it was owned by Portillos. Ever since they sold it to a new owner quality has gone downhill. Their breakfast burrito was great when they used authentic chorizo. I dont know what they use now but its terrible. Not to mention, service really dropped. We could barely get the waiters attention any time we needed anything and it took him about 15 minutes just to say hello and get us some water. This is the third and consistent time I have been disappointed there. Three strikes, youre out. We will not be returning anymore.
