I dont get any of these less then 5 star reviews! We have eaten here a few times and love everything about this place. We had the feast for 5 tonight and the food was excellent! The pork was delicious and lean, the brisket amazing and again very lean, and the baby back ribs were perfect. The kiss lived the fries and out son loves that they serve green river on fountain too. The beans were good, just not as good as Famous Daves wilbur beans but the chili competes in my top 5 for sure. My wife loved the coleslaw too. My only complaint is the order at the window service. They should have a seperated to go service then ordering in. If the waitress or waiter is going to bring out my food and clear the table - pass out to go boxes... they might as well take my order and bring our drinks for a good 20-30% tip! I still tip 10% for the help but I always leave feeling like the server got shorted. Let the server make more profit off your amazing food!!! If their getting a minimum wage and not a server wage Id understand but I doubt it, so dont short your service! Keep up the great food and we will be back! Hopefully someone takes our order next me and this business can maximize their profits. I understand they dont wanna change things since being around since the 1800s but change is good sometimes. :)

Not sure why people are giving this place high ratings, everything they serve is pre-packaged or frozen. Ive gone here twice and will not go again. The first time I got the ribs and they were ok... pork and beans and coleslaw were from a can. Second visit I ordered the prime rib and what I got was Italian beef meat on a burger bun, definitely not worth the money I paid for it and it definitely was NOT prime rib!! This place is a pit all right, but its more of a garbage pit... the plates are dirty, the salt shaker at my table was sticky with ketchup, they dont even wipe the tables down. I wouldnt be surprised if people got salmonella from the food here based on how dirty the place was. Its not hard to cook meat (pork, ribs, etc.) and throw sauce on it to make it taste ok, but this place is nothing special and the people raving about the food are probably used to eating at McDonalds and not at a real smoke pit. My wife and kids food was also mediocre at best and I was just glad that none of us got sick.. I think this place will be on Restaurant Impossible sometime in the future and we will all be surprised when we see what the kitchen looks like!

I ordered carry out on Friday evening this week--two barbbq brisket dinners and chicken strips, ~$40. The coleslaw tasted like it came from a cheap supermarket, it was definitely not made in the restaurant (at least I hope not). The bun bread was not fresh baked but it was good even though it tasted like it was bought at the supermarket too. The fries were decent, but shaped too perfectly to made fresh. The baked beans tasted straight out of a can, I am quite certain. The potato salad was bland at best and I would be surprised if they made it in the kitchen of this restaurant. As for the barbbq itself--I dont think they even cooked it at the restaurant. Everything tasted previously frozen. The barbbq sauce is too bitter for my taste (they have bottles of it for sale--looks like a white label thing with their branding on it. I am shocked that this place is in business, apparently my neighbors dont even know what real good barbbq tastes like. I will never go back.

SAVE YOUR MONEY! Absolutely nothing Texan about this place. These people have obviously never had BBQ in Texas. To start they did not offer onions, pickles or jalapenos to go with the meat. The bread was down right horrible, thank goodness we had some Mrs. Bairds at home! Then I ordered the sliced brisket, when we got it home it looked like they went down to Arbys and got some shaved roast beef and added their sauce to it. The beans tasted like feet, dont know what was up with that but they were not like anything I ever tasted. And LONE STAR beer? My wife went to go pick this stuff up and people were ordering this. Dont people know that stuff gives you the runs. No one in Texas actually drinks the stuff, drink SHINER! Definitely will not be going back. They need to change their name to something a little more realistic: The Anti-Texan BBQ

The legendary Texan BBQ in Algonquin (E side of rt. 31, just N of rt. 62) is family owned and operated, even after all these years, and that pride shows with every hot heaping platter this small-but-mighty serves up. Is "to-go" more your style? No problem. Every item on their sumptuous menu can travel, all you need to do is ask. This long-time local favorite serves all the traditional BBQ meats, accompanied by a variety of homemade BBQ sauces, as well as homemade beans and coleslaw. Pro tip: try the Cajun fries. Beer and wine is available, in addition to a full service soda fountain that features Green River on tap. YUM!

Had the meat platter and it was gross, you could tell that everything had just been sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long. The Turkey was the exact consistency of shaved turkey you would pick up at a grocery store. Very disappointing, though I knew it would be when my food came out right after I ordered it. My suggesting, condense your menu and do a few things well instead of a lot of things horribly. Real BBQ should be slow cooked and served at the right time. You should take "Texan" from your name before someone from Texas comes around and gives you a piece of their mind.

I like the food but please get the carryout. This place needs a restaurant makeover. Everything from the menu to the decor is dated and dirty. Im afraid to let my one year old daughter eat off the table. I found the prime rib to be excellent but it is shaved and smoked. The brisket is a bit dry for my liking. The fried stuff is great but the veggies, beans, and slaw are nothing special and even a bit sub par. We get carryout by the pound and make our own accoutrements at home- yes, even the bread as it is very standard and I like a good roll for my Q. Worth a shot if youre in the area.

Here goes a little bit of truth. The restaurant kind of gross looking but cant say for sure only a first impression because I did order to go. The mash potatoes nothing special if anything I can say was poorly prepared. The corn bread muffin that they claim is home made not sure how many days prior to ordering and stuck in the refrigerator. The only great thing I do have to say the ribs were just as promised. The meat was well prepared, fresh tasting and the sauce was great. It was falling right of the bone without any effort. Will I come back? Perhaps but only for the ribs.

There are good and bad reviews, and after eating there once I agree with the bad ones. I was disappointed and felt that they dont know real Texas BBQ. Ive eaten good food elsewhere and this left me wondering how they made it taste .... not good. I felt as if I had left my tastebuds in the car. The comments about adding BBQ sauce to the "cooked" meat are right on. BBQ is a process and sauce should get cooked onto the meat or into the process, but adding it to this food, trying to save it, didnt work for me either. If you have good taste I would recommend elsewhere.
