Decided to go out to dinner with some really good friends to celebrate the holidays. We went with two others couples. We decided to go to Freight Kitchen and Tap in downtown Woodstock. We started the evening off with a few drinks and a couple of appetizers while waiting on the rest of the group to arrive. We decided to order the Spinach artichoke dip and the cheese and fruit platter. The pita chips for the dip came out dark brown with a smell and taste of fish. It appeared that the oil being used was quite old and used to fry all their food. When we mentioned the bad tasting chips to the owner, he reached over the table grabbed a chip and popped it in his mouth. He then agreed that the chips had a fishy flavor, but didn’t recognize how greasy they were. He replaced them with equally as dark brown but not quite as nasty chips due to the extra salt. Later we noticed, after most of the cheese had been eaten, that the cheese was moldy. The owner explained that it was part of the presentation and that he eats the cheese whole including the rind. He also proceeded to tell us that mold is nothing more than penicillin and that we shouldn’t be concerned. This was all explained in a very condescending way. He failed to recognize that a patron was very concerned of what they had eaten and decided to take the opportunity to make fun of the situation. Not to mention live mold spores are toxic. The owner returned and explained that the kitchen staff agreed that there was indeed mold on the cheese and we were correct, it should not have been served that way. He then left without apologizing. It seems odd that the kitchen staff has to agree with a patron versus an owner trying to work on customer relations. We will not be returning to Freight, we feel that their disregard for customer satisfaction and lack of high quality food creates a bad eating experience and value. Downtown Woodstock is booming with new places to dine and enjoy a night out with friends, I would think that all establishments would be working extra hard to compete.

This place really misses the mark in customer service and quality of food. Its our first time coming here and just about everything went "wrong". We walked in and had to wait to be greeted by the hostess because she was taking a reservation on the phone. We got seated in a booth (excellent) but it took a while before our waiter stopped by to introduce himself. And a while again before he took out order. My wife and I got sweet tea and my sweet tea had white stuff floating around in it (my wifes tea did not). Dont know if I got a dirty glass or what? I ordered the Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich which had a lot of fat on it in my opinion. Also the menu said it is topped with BBQ sauce and there was NOT one drop of BBQ sauce anywhere on the sandwich! When we ordered my wife asked for ketchup and mayo and I asked for mayo. When the food came out there didnt bring ketchup or mayo. Our waiter was no where to be found. He disappeared frequently during our visit and stayed gone. The only reason this review is getting 2 stars is because of the waitress we flagged down to ask for ketchup and mayo and she was nice and jumped into action to get our waiter to bring us the condiments. He came by and dropped off ketchup and mayo for my wife (not me). He refilled our sweet teas (or else we would have been almost empty for the meal.) It took a while before he showed up again to ask if we wanted the check and a little bit before he returned with the check. I thought it was funny because he walked by the table, stopped, backed up and then dropped off the check. Guess he was just too busy to provide customer service to us the entire time we were there. Based on this experience I wouldnt recommend this place to others and I wont be back. This place just didnt impress me in the least.

My mother and I were pleasantly suprised to find this good example of a southern gastropub in downtown Woodstock! I live in Atlanta and enjoy the fresh take on southern cuisine as served at Rosebud and Food 101, and so I enjoyed my lunch at Freight Kitchen. We both loved the fried green tomato and felt it was the best we have had anywhere, due to the traditional corn meal breading, overall crispness inside and out, and perfect compliment the spicy topping brought to this standard. We also had a lovely piemento cheese with fried crepe chips and veggies, which I liked enough to take home with me. Mom loved her BBQ pork sandwich with perfectly cooked (NOT greasy) potato chips. My pork belly sliders were ok, not the best Ive ever had, but I ate them and felt good about it. I was so pleased to see the large, carefully chosen selections of liquor and craft beers they have in their bar. They give nice drink suggestions along with the description of the items on the menu. I was intrigued by the desert menu as they have a draft beer float. Maybe next time I wont eat so many delicious small plates and will give it a try. The staff and management are so friendly and helpful. I would eat here just to be appreciated as a diner and a visitor - so rarely found in restaurants today. I believe that here you participate in the process of evolution of the dishes and menu. Both the server and manager (owner?) asked specific questions of how we felt about the food, both accepting compliements gracefully and taking suggestions into consideration. So unique. Woodstock is lucky to have this delicious, sweet place.

Honestly, Freight is a newer restaurant in a higher rent district. I get that the food and drinks need to be pricey - but $9.00 for a drink? Thats a rip off. We had 3 of us and one of us had to put his order in 3 times because they kept "running out" of the specials. Okay, I can understand running out of a special - but cant you keep your staff updated on what is almost gone when there are only 4 or 5 specials on the menu? Very inefficient and very disturbing to "get in the mood" for a certain meal and then to have the "idea" of it ripped away from you twice. The food was average restaurant food (better than fast food or Applebees). The server was very slow and left us without drinks for a long time after we ordered and rarely came back to ensure we always had drinks flowing. Frustrating to have empty glasses. And then finally - the atmosphere is a very personal thing... I, personally, did not think that the atmosphere was very good. The stick-like tables and chairs were very uncomfortable. The building was an old train station, but we felt like we were sitting in a huge warehouse. It was too barren and not enough comfort or deco was provided. How about some tapestries or something interesting to look at or comment on? So Ill finish my review with this: Freight could become something great someday with a little improvement.
