Let me try and just bullet the reasons why I disliked my experience here just to save time and to keep myself from feeling worse than I do now. 1.) Arrived and went in to go ask for a wait time since there was a line out the door and got ambushed by the hostess who told us to get in line out in the rain. 2.) Table we were directed to still had money on it, which I feel makes it very uncomfortable for the guest, but was forced to sit and get out of the way. 3.) EVERY piece of flatware had food residue on it from previous guests, cups/mugs included. 4.) What the menu offers is different from what the waitstaff will tell you is available. Our estimated 22 dollar bill became 29 when our waiter told us certain things were included when they were not. 5.) The food was mediocre. The pork chops were a grease sponge and the pancakes were flat and soggy. 6.) When trying to flag down our waitress to let her know all the money on the table was hers and we didnt need change, she spotted a twenty dollar bill and assumed that was all that we left, condescendingly pointing out the total which was clearly written on the slip. I assured her there were more bills there and turned over the check to reveal what she didnt take the time or consideration to investigate. When it comes time to tip, I always give people the benefit of the doubt and assume it might just be a bad day for the company or waitstaff, so I never deny them the money that makes up their livelihood. That being said, Ive never felt more cheated at a breakfast place. Especially ones with peeling wall paint and impatient, misinformative employees.

I was extremely underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed with this restaurant. Ive been looking forward to eating here for months now because of the high ratings and because I heard it was a great place for breakfast. I was super excited when I got the opportunity to go today. First, let me say the overall look of the place is like an old 1960s diner. It is definitely stuck in that era. Thats not a bad thing. I kind of liked that charm. Now, on to the food...Lets just say, I wonder if any of the people who gave this place a 4 or 5 stars, really tasted the food. Or maybe I got a different chef because the food was most definitely not a 4. At best a 3 because it was hot. However, I ordered the catfish strips with eggs, grits, and a pancake. None of which tasted seasoned at all. Now granted, it came to my table piping hot but it was nothing to sing about. I understand this place has been around for several decades and been visited by a number of celebrities but I wonder if they thought the food was good because I didnt see any reviews by them. My friend ordered the skillet fried chicken and the breading was extremely thick and floury. The dressing and green beans tasted like they came from a box and a can and the macaroni and cheese was very dry and they used shell noodles instead of macaroni noodles. The staff were extremely friendly and our server was very attentive. We only paid about $26 for our meals combined, plus I got coffee; cant beat that! All in all, I was not impressed and will probably not be back.

The only thing this place has going for its self is the location and its popular for a few movie scenes. The waitresses are rude, except for one, she is nice, the others could care less about the service. the cashiers are rude as hell, all they ask you is, do you want to leave a tip thats it. The food you can get anywhere, nothing special about the food. It is southern food sure but not great. Its very busy because it has no competition. There is no place to get breakfast anywhere else close to this place and like I said its the location. If another place opened up across the street or up or down the street, added southern hospitality and a smile, served the same food, Silver Skillet would fold out of business. The attitude of some of the waitresses and staff, especially the cashiers are ugly and rude... Will I go back, NO, Waffle house has same food and just opened up on the corner of 14th and Northside just a little further down west where the people are friendly and appreciate you business! The people in the Silver Skillet are rude as hell and Ive been there a hundred times but not ever again. So Rude, so Rude, So Rude... and the owners dont care!!!! Atlanta Business Owner banning the Silver Skillet because of their lack of appreciation for their customers and lack of Southern Hospitality. This attitude will one day ruin your business as other competitions open up around you and its coming...Dont bother trying to get a togo order, the lady on the phone will bite you in anger.

I had heard so many great things about this place that I decided to take my husband for Fathers Day. First the good. My kids ordered the french toast and scrambled eggs, which they loved! Now the not so good... I ordered over medium eggs which came out with cooked yolk. The waitress was happy to exchange for me with no problem. My daughter had hair in her french toast, and the longest hair ever was found weaved through our basket of jelly, which we did not complain about because I had already sent my eggs back. The white gravy had no seasoning, my husband added salt and pepper to it. The hashbrowns were hard, and the coffee was weak (personal preference for strong coffee), not a real complaint. Now the biscuits were the best thing we all had. My husband had pork chops, which were ok, nothing special. My country ham was good i guess if you like salt with a bone in it. LOL! I was warned by the waitress it was salty, but good. It was just salty! Order the other ham, not the country ham, if you go. So, overall the best thing about the experience is being able to say we ate at the famous Silver Skillet. I will stick with The Flying Biscuit for a true breakfast experience!! But I always say try it for yourself. It could have just been my expectations were too high from all of the postive responses, There are plenty who think it is the absolute greatest place ever. It could have been a bad day for the cook. Who knows!! :)

There are fine lines between quaint and run - down and between service thats charmingly homey and grossly inadequate. This place is on the wrong side of both. The booths are uncomfortable, and many have seats that are torn or cracked and the floor is either just dirty or about 10 years past due for a refresh. Our server was very sweet and clearly wanted us to enjoy our meal. The problem was that or sons very simple breakfast arrived 20 minutes after the test of us were served. Whether the fault was hers or the kitchens, its just unacceptable. Also, the biscuits were nothing remotely special, and if the gravy wasnt from mix, then the kitchens just wasting time. The quality was definitely "from a package" grade. If youre an Atlantan, and this place is some sort of institution, I can see why you might suffer though a meal here. Tourists like me would be better served to find some other spot.
