We own a spa business in Temple Terrace about 1.5 miles from Rubens so we frequent there about 2-3 times a week for breakfast for our staff for the past 4-5 years. In the past, weve never had a problem with our orders. Today, unfortunately, was the last time we will order from them. We got everything in our order wrong from the type of cheese on the toast to the toppings in the omelet to the raw, uncooked cold tomatoes and onions in the breakfast sandwich. USUALLY OUR ORDERS DONT CHANGE AND ARE BASICALLY THE SAME EACH TIME WE BUY FROM THERE. When we called, we repeated the order several times to prevent any errors. Apparently, the girl who took down the order is new, but that shouldnt have affected the way our food was cooked. When we called back (after getting back to work to eat) to voice our complaint we spoke with Jack, who tried his best to get to the bottom of this matter and related the information to the owner Ruben (who knows us on a first name basis). Ruben did NOTHING to make up for the mistake his employees made and had Jack tell us that unless we brought the food back to be recooked, there was nothing he would do for us to justify or compensate. SADLY ENOUGH, WE WONT EVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE ELSE. As a customer-centered spa business, we ourselves are cognizant of the fact ((and we reiterate to our staff)) that CLIENT SATISFACTION is ALWAYS priority, something Ruben knows nothing of.

I dont know why this place gets such good ratings.. I walked in with my sixteen-year-old daughter at 10:30 in the morning we ordered two Cubans 3 empanadas a Coke and a triple expresso. The person that took our order a young light skin girls short had no personality at all whatsoever, did not even say hello what can I get you. There was about six employees behind the counter they all look extremely stressed out and it was only 10:30 in the morning. The Cuban sandwiches tasted like American ham sandwiches they put a tremendous amount of lettuce in it and Ham and a little tiny bit of pulled pork, my daughter sandwich was not pressed mines was a little pressed. I only gave it one star because it was only one polite person behind the counter a young black African American man who had a smile on his face and made me smile and made a terrific cup of expresso for me. I feel like it was a total waste of time we drove all the way from Valrico and a waste of money!! if you want a good Cuban sandwich go to Latinos Supermarket off State Road 60 theyre not even Cuban, but youll get more than your moneys worth, oh and if I also may add Ive had better empanadas out of gas stations, I am a person with 30 years experience in the food industry so dont waste your time or gas or money...

Regardless of the number of patrons present, you will be served when the solitary waitress is good and ready. In the meantime you are forced to listen to a blaring radio mounted on the ceiling. The menu is impossible to read or indeed make any sense of whatsoever. The names of common foods and beverages are misspelled. When they do not have the ingredients to prepare a listed menu item, no apology or explanation is offered. In fact the customer is made to feel that you - not them - are to blame for even requesting the item in the first place. When you find something on the menu that they can make, it is served in the smallest portion they can get away with at a noticeably weak temperature. There is no concept of paying for the check in a timely fashion. You are to go to the front of the store and take your place behind the three people who just walked in to get coffee to go. While some may think this is worth the price, I wouldnt take it if it were offered for free. You have been warned.

A friend told me about this place a few months ago, Ive been living here quite awhile and never went in, but did go to another sandwich shop close, but it just closed and I figured we would give it a try. On FB they claimed to have a rewards program, but when I went, they said they didnt have any more cards, and wouldnt until after the move, but i should just keep my receipts and they would punch the new card later. Saved a stack of receipts, but i ended up in the hospital for awhile, and we couldnt go. When i did get to come home, sent my wife to pick up a phone in order, she had a little trouble finding them, as they had moved just a little. She had all my receipts, but owner would not honor them, wouldnt punch the new cards they now had. We have havent been back since.

Worst Midnight a.k.a. Media Noche I ever had. It was put together kind of sloppy. And the bread was unlike any Ive ever had for a midnight sandwich. It was light, fluffy, falling apart, and had no flavor. The pork on the sandwich was good. $9 for a sandwich and a 16 oz fountain drink. I do have to mention that I did have a little allergy start up today.... so maybe that affected my tastebuds. But I do still have taste so I dont think it really affected my sandwich experience. And there is no doubt this sandwich was unlike any Midnight Ive ever had. This was my first time here and I have no doubt that most of the food here is very good...just dont get the Midnight.

First time visiting Rubens Cuban Cafe. All I can say is WOW. I had their Cuban sandwich with a side of Red Beans and rice and I was very impressed. I have a strong culinary background and very rarely frequent many dining establishments for that reason. The authenticity of the flavors, portions and just overall great service was superb. I see why they draw in the crowds. If you are planning on making this the lunch hour dining in experience, you may want to call your order in advance as seating is limited and the wait time is a bit long but well worth it. Looking forward to trying out other items on the menu. Bravo Rubens Cuban Cafe for an excellent lunch.

Service was fair. It was a bit busy when I came in. I ordered breakfast and the food portion was massive and I loved it. The food was good nothing to brag about but it was good (chorizo was really good). The server had nice hair, but it only tasted average (hair in my hashbrown). The bathroom was disgusting. The floors looked wet and sticky around the toilet and the rim of the toilet seat and bowl was caked with dry urine. I ordered my food up front and then sat. The girl at the front forgot my water and the server forgot my OJ. I probably wouldnt eat here again but did enjoy the food. Id actually give this place a 1.5 but thats not an option.
