We visited St. Augustine for the day to get to know the North Side a little better and tour a museum near by. So when confronted with the restaurant decision we noticed the restaurant I had planned on trying was not open but an interesting Japanese establishment was handy so we went in. The atmosphere was dark, quiet and lovely. Beautiful décor. However, that is par for the course. When it came to our orders, the food appearance, taste and appeal of the drinks before dinner, etc. It was awful. On top of all that the menu does not actually match what you get served. I specifically ordered a large seafood soup without wheat because of my gluten sensitivity. I expressed to the waiter that I needed a gluten free noodle and I know that soba noodles are gluten free so I ordered them with these in it. When the meal came I noticed the noodles were not soba after a few bites. I was even more upset when the chef insisted soba noodles were made of wheat not buckwheat and udon noodles were made of rice. As I am familiar with noodles now since my allergies started I knew that udon noodles are made of wheat. Obviously this woman was Chinese or something else and was not familiar with Japanese food enough to know the difference. I was angry and confused about this. They did not remake the soup but gave me a small discount. I left hungry since my dinner date had already eaten his dinner which also did not have the right ingredients indicated on the menu. This Japanese restaurant is not worth your money. You would be just as well to go to a fast food Chinese place. We were very disappointed.

Me and my girlfriend visited St. Augustine and we were craving for some Japanese food. We look up this place and we saw decent reviews, so we decided to come here. When we got the seafood food udon, it was far beyond than what we was expected. There are absolutely no "udon" taste in the udon. It look like they just boil the add some shrimp, some fake crab and squid, some vegetables and some some to the plain water and boil it all together. Even the ramen that I made at home taste better than this. When we complain about the taste of the udon to the waitress, she heard it and then just show a face expression like "oh well, thats too bad", said nothing and then walk off. They then bring dynamite and spider rolls out, the taste of two rolls was not that good, too. For me and my girlfriend, if the food was bad but the service was good, then we can let it go. However, this time the food and the service are both bad, that why I decided to give them a bad review.

This is the best St. Augustine has to offer for sushi??? Web order is confusing and vague, so we called instead. Manager was incredibly rude and after trying to clarify our order she was more confused, but acted as if I was wrong. Should have canceled right there but it was right next to our hotel (Hilton Doubletree), and the kids and I were ravished. I knew the order was going to be messed up because the price I paid was $15 over the total I ordered online. But, what I didnt expect was the poor quality. The "Wontons" had a snotty consistency, The sushi rolls were hastily constructed, loose, and unmanageable except as a finger-food. The eel was chewy, and the salmon was mushy. The chicken tempura was also chewy and the batter would not stick to the slimy meat. It was gross, and we could have done way better to go to a take-out Chinese joint, paid half of what we did, and not had to deal with rude staff.

Dont get the reasoning behind the negative reviews -- unless the priority for those who submit them go to preferences for the ceiling-high flames, flying shrimp and other hibachi fanfare that goes with show-biz dining. Even in this respect, Sakada comes through for the diner -- but its not nearly as important and alluring as Sakadas extensive, varied menu -- the quality and freshness of the sushi and other Japanese cuisine, the Chinese cuisine, the beautiful presentations and the prompt, courteous service. If you want more entertainment than you do quality, try Chucky Cheeses -- and bring the little weenie mongers along with you.

My girlfriend and I love this place. They have very good sushi and are very polite. This is not a "fancy" hibachi place by any means, its more of a relaxed, nice but not high class restaurant with good food. They can be pricey at dinner hours but we love getting the Japanese lunch special which is 3 rolls of sushi for 10.99 I believe. We also love their sweet tea, its different and refreshing. If youre not a terribly picky eater and enjoy japanese and Chinese food I think you should give this place a try.

Excellent atmosphere and great sushi, not the best sushi you will ever have but it is most definitely up there. Service was polite and very helpful and their menu provides amazing selection. The plating of the food was immaculate and it looked like a dish from a 4 star restaurant. Would definitely eat here again, the only cons I could think of are all subjective. Such as the sweet tea being very very sweet which I like, and the obvious use of imitation crab (which is not a big deal).

We drove past and decided to turn around and eat here after reading some of the reviews. The staff were friendly and the food was ok. But we did not have the normal "hibachi" experience. The chef just cooked our food, no "egg roll" or peepee boy. No throwing shrimp into our mouths. They forgot one of our steak orders and the veggies did not get cooked long enough making the broccoli inedible. We chose to leave a smaller tip due to these issues. We do not plan to return.

The owner and her family go above and beyond at this establishment. The Tuna Pizza is award winning, the sushi is the best we have in St Augustine. (for those that it does not measure up? go home.) They deliver to local neighborhoods and make you feel like part of the family. Thank you Sakada! I was so upset after reading a few negative reviews I had to post. Then I realize when you click on the reviewer they only have one post. Sounds like a bitter rival.

The place is wonderful. If you like sushi you will love that place. They have everything you need. Even if you dont like sea food you can get rice, noddles and more. The people who work there are very kind, and nice. They could give you some advise if you cant find anything or you like everything. The place has a nice setting dark, but at the same time lighted with lights and calming music. I enjoyed the restaurant and I hope you will like it too!!!!!!

Best. Sushi. Ever. My fiance and I are huge sushi fans. We get sushi several times a month. We always get the spicy tuna as our way of testing how great the sushi is. Our favorite sushi place in our hometown was the place with the best spicy tuna roll Id every eaten... Until here. The sushi is FRESH. The tuna melts in your mouth. If you go here, go for nothing but the sushi. SO good. We want to go back just for Sakura!!
