My husband and I moved to lake city from Ft. lauderdale Florida. Down there you have more options, food wise, than you know what to do with. When we got to lake city we were worried we would never find a good place to eat. Then we found this beautiful little restaurant! I have grown up on Asian food. Not honey garlic chicken and pepper steak, real Asian food. I grew up among an Asian community so we ate authentic food off of menus written in the native language. So I was picky to say the least. Yamatos lived up to my expectations! Which frankly is the middle of lake city (no where) surprised to hell out of me. I though I was dreaming LOL. The food is great and very fresh. Perfect really. The atmosphere is friendly, quaint and quiet. Perfect for a nice private meal. They also make meals to go if you cant sit and enjoy. Of course we have tired many other restaurants around town to see what is out there. I went to culinary school, good food is what I live for. We keep coming back here. If you like this type of food, it is by far the best place to eat in town. The food is original, noncommercial and you can really feel the love that is put into the restaurant through their food!

As soon as you walk through the doors you will be greeted by at least one kind, friendly staff member. The seats are large and comfortable, tables clean and free of sticky substances. I, myself, am vegan, and was coming in pursuit of the vegetable sushi rolls (they have more than just cucumber and avocado sushi even, also including pickled squash and asparagus) but could not have it because of an allergy. However, the sushi rice is vegan. The waitress was cooperative and helped me choose a meal that was both filling and tasteful - vegetable soba with teriyaki sauce, along with a side salad, miso soup, and a hefty scoop of rice. Portions are rather large so if you dont have a big appetite you can split them up into two or three meals. All this food for only $8.50 - money that is truthfully well spent. Compliments to the waitstaff, and of course, compliments to the chefs. I will definetly stop by when I am back in Lake City, and you should consider doing so too.

Im very disappointed with this restaurant. Weve been weekly customers for over two years and the quality of the food has really suffered. Today was the third time Ive come in and ordered a shrimp box and been dissatisfied. My shrimp was poorly cooked and stone cold. My fried rice was bland and also cold, as was my gyoza. When I told the waitress I was unhappy she did not offer to have to food fixed, but she did speak to the owner of the store. The owner did not even bother to speak to us and just gave us a discount on the bill. Needless to say, my family and I will be finding a new local lunch spot. If the owner had cared enough to come speak with us I would have come back, but if they care so little for their customers and food quality its just not worth it.

We had lunch: filet mignon w/white rice coke. And kalbi w/fried rice green tea $25. Mmmmm delicious. Though the waitress was a little pushy we just dont like to be rushed that got her only $2.00 tip instead of $4.00

Local Jewel - lunch or dinner its a great spot. Small, clean, quick. We are regulars here. If you want good sushi or Japanese steakhouse where they do not cook in front of you.

Service was very slow today.... Almost an hour to get food. Normally not this bad. Hope it doesnt continue. Food was okay.... Chicken was crispy instead of grilled.
