Have you seen the movie "Date Night"? Particularly the scene when Tina Feys and Steve Carells characters go to the restaurant Claw in the city? POV at the W in Washington DC is like Claw. All the staff (down to the person pressing the elevator button) treat you like the W just did you the biggest favor in life by existing and allowing you to patronize them. As I was approaching the woman manning the line for the elevator to the POV, I was expecting her to say "youre welcome" before I even spoke one word to her. Any"w"ays, Im not a fan, as Im sure youve picked up. Im also not a fan of long ranting negative reviews, so Im going to go short form now. Statement of credibility: Im an experienced event manager in Washington DC, very familiar with this citys top hotels/restaurants/event spaces. Also, just as much as the next person, I appreciate a hip-chic-livesomeoneelseslifeforanight type of place like POV at The W. A good thing: The View. The bad things: Everything else. Mean girl staff, $14 dollar drinks with one giant piece of ice that is pretty much the same size as the glass (when I asked for no ice in my vodka soda, the bartender brought me a smaller glass which was half full and then asked me if I would like her to add more soda), a man checking IDs who actually said "I dont have all night" as my friend Rusty pulled out his ID, and OH so many more fun anecdotes of pretension I could share. Practical Tip: If you are going to go, make a big night of it. Begin by popping a few anti-anxiety pills and line your wallet with a few more 100s. Make reservations, get dressed up to the nines, plan to arrive early for a couple of drinks, then have dinner, and linger over dessert and drinks--all while repeating the useless old mantra in your head "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me". Conclusion: Hey, Im a good capitalist. If the lemon-faced corporates at the W are making bank on rudeness, I can appreciate that. I just wont be returning to help them out.

My brother bought me here for bunch while I am in town from Colorado for a visit. He said the views are spectacular and the food is equally delicious. I was really looking forward to this unique dining experience in DC! Unfortunately, when we arrived for our reservation this morning the hostess told us there was "no way" we had a reservation since we were not guests at the W hotel. She stared at the computer screen for a few moments before promptly stomping us into a nearly empty dining room. She was clearly annoyed at our very existence. The views in the dining room were cool, but certainly not amazing - we learned later the room with view over the Mall is under renovation. Our server was actually quite nice, albeit a bit pushy. I love a good Bloody Mary at brunch, but I saw one being delivered across from us and it looked diluted at best, so I decided not to spend $13.00 on one and ordered a cup of ($6.00) coffee instead. The food arrived slowly and was mediocre, especially for the price. My eggs benedict came with potatoes that were virtually cold and mostly soggy. Overall it was quite an underwhelming experience and I can see Im not the only one with these sentiments recently. Im not even sure the views (when open) could compensate for the lack-luster food and sour-faced employees.

Poor, very poor! Was not allowed in Friday night due to my shoes(I was wearing my running shoes because we walked/biked 3 miles from our hotel and my other shoes were wet from the night before... And I had on a nice button down shirt, khaki shorts).... And I thought, " its ok... Frustrating but ok because it is an upscale bar/ restaurant." Only to come back the next day to find people wearing althletic t-shirts, sandals, converse, and hiking sandals. Complete bullshit! We live in a country where some businesses are prosecuted for denying service for religious beliefs but denying service for the shoes one is wearing is ok. Which doesnt even fall into the socioeconomic category because my running shoes cost more than my "nice" shoes. Unacceptable! Manager said, " its a blurry line" and was talking about the formality of the "club atmosphere" (as someone in flip flops and tennis shoes walked by) and how they dont start enforcing the dress code until 9, which we came in after 9 on Saturday. Manager just aloof to our concerns about the inconcistancy of enforcement of the dress code.

First of all we were offered bottle service at an exorbitant price which changed depending on who asked what the price was (by hundreds of dollars) to the hostess. Secondly we ordered food and one of our friends food did not come out until at least 45 minutes after everyone elses....but only after we tracked down our elusive waitress to find out that her food was burned and had to be recooked. We were told that since we did not do bottle service we can only sit for 90 minutes but it took longer for the food to come out and even longer to get our bill which we once again had to actually track down our waitress to get. Finally, we ordered the exact same drinks that we ordered inside at the outside bar but they came out completely different including color, taste, and alcohol. The views of this bar are great but the service and the food/alcohol are subpar and you should spend your money and time elsewhere.

We showed up 20 min late to our reservation, on the first beautiful night of spring, after a brutal winter, it was 80 degrees, everyone was happy, people were everywhere, and the traffic was awful. We knowingly had a 30 min cushion before it was released. Upon our arrival we were told (extremely rudely) by the hostess that our table was released, and that the best she could do was sit us at a table and hope that the reservation I paid 60$ for opened up...Upon being seated, I asked for the manager. The waitress brought Nick to us. After explaining the situation to him, he couldnt have handled it better. He did everything in his power to help us get seated at our reservation and make sure we enjoyed our experience. We ended up having the most amazing time, food was absolutely glorious, the wine was fantastic. Beside the hostess situation, this is a 5 star restaurant with incredible views!

Went here for date night with my hubby. The table wasnt ready for our reservation time so we had to wait. The views from our seats were amazing! The DJ played an awesome mix of music that was right up my alley: 80s and 90s hip-hop dance mixes. It broke up the night and provided us an opportunity to go down memory lane. The drink list was mostly sweeter concoctions and I choose to stick with the basics. They have a nice selection of vodka but dont have flavored vodkas which can limit the bartenders ability to create a drink that isnt on their standard menu. The prices are on par with DC. The limited food selection was disappointing. I was hoping for more tapas or appetizers with a few main course options. Overall, we had a fantastic time and will probably return. Next time we will skip the bottle service and the food and just have a few drinks at the bar.
