Pass through the opulent lobby of the Willard, in the shadow of the White House, and follow a short hallway to the Round Robin. If the president had a bar in the basement of the White House, this is what it would look like. A small circle, dark and stately, of a bar with seating along the wall. The average age is 55+, but youre more likely to run into a Senator or visiting dignitary. Get ready to flash some cash, because this place aint cheap, but it will make you feel like a true Washingtonian. Soak up the stuffiness and pretend youre an insider.

This is THE bar in DC. There are other bars, like at the Old Ebbitt Grill, that are great "power" watering holes ... but ... at the Round Robin, you never know whos going to be there. One of my most memorable meetings was Andrew Lloyd Weber. As he sat next to me, reviewing his latest production at the National Theater, I asked him, "Are you who I think you are?" His sly response, "It depends on who you think I am." The service is always thoughtful and attentive. Once youve been in, the folks at the bar will remember you and what you enjoy.

Its not a fancy bar but its a classic! When you sit down at the Round Robin youll be greeted by a lot of familiar faces on the walls (former presidents and political figures mainly) and every single one of them has been a guest there. I will say that I tried the Mint Julep and I wasnt too impressed by it (its served in a glass here rather than a traditional mug) but they have plenty of other seasonal cocktails and standard classic drinks. If youre a whiskey drinker youll like the selection!

I was expecting a high standard and complicated range of whiskey based cocktail since this is the oldest bar in DC and its Presidents favourite. I was left disappointed when I looked at the menu, it was mostly just a standard classic drink. It was overpriced and not exciting at all. Luckily I love the classical and historic settings of the bar. I must say it was worth a one time visit while you are in DC.

Round Robin wasnt busy. I was more than excited to imbibe at this historic venue, but I must have worn my invisibility cloak this afternoon. I gave myself 30 minutes. If staff members did not acknowledged me, Id get up and leave. 30 minutes passed. I got up and left with only the experience of being completely ignored.

Food tasted good, but by the time the food got to our table it was cold. The waitress didnt check on us once and the cook had to bring us our food. The service from our waitress was non existent, and as I sit here I am still waiting on my check.

Definitely feels old inside. Almost like you are in someones house in colonial times. I can appreciate its historic feel and value, however, feels a little claustrophobic with the carpeting and walls being so dark

Gorgeous bar in the Willard named one of the top bars in the country. My group and I tried the spiked cider and the julep cocktails. Pricey but completely wonderful.

The bartenders were very nice and funny. The drinks are good and strong. Cant go wrong with getting a mint julep at the bar that it was first made in DC!

This place is amazing. The room has so much character. My wife and I came by just for a drink but that turned into a bottle of cab. Didnt want to leave.

If you self-describe as mixologists specializing in craft cocktails but have NO CLUE how to make a Blood & Sand, you are engaging in false advertising.

Cozy and classy. Our cocktails were great and the bartender made us feel like Washington insiders. Well worth a visit if you are in town.
